This is the first time I have hit forged clubs in a long time and I am impressed.
These are great clubs. Distance is the same as others and they are straight as an arrow. I can fade it and draw it upon request and have no problems around the green with chips or pitches.

great clubs, some things to watch out for; they are heavier....brings out your flaws, especially if you are working on a swing which most high handicappers are. The feel is great, and the weight causes your swing to be pure or your NOT going to get a great shot. the feedback from the club, helps you learn faster. I've modified my swing, and I've only had them for a few weeks. I've only played about 4 rounds....too much power around the greens...take some getting used to when chipping...i got the shanks from the extra weight...threw my body forward....but now, i'm taking a full turn and using my wrists correctly....only shank once a round right now...hopefully that will be eliminated soon...

I usually play in the mid to high 80's, handicap index is 14.1. I bought a set of lightly used Callaway X12's w/graphite shafts two days prior to the Hogan set. X12's were incinsistent for my swing although they felt solid. Bought the Hogans and shot 80 the first time out. Loved the feel and feedback. Mis-hit a 4 iron from 190 and stuck it 2 and a half feet from the pin. One of three birdies that round. I've been playing for 30 years and have found the set that I may play for another 30.

Amazing irons. I played with a starter set of Spalding Executives for 10 years, and recently decided it was time to buy a top-tier set of irons. My mission: to find the best set for me, regardless of price, and get them custom-fitted. A set to keep forever. A set to make sure that all problems with my game are entirely my own fault, making it impossible to blame the equipment! I normally shoot in the low-to-mid 90's, but on a very good day I can shoot in the high 80's.

I hit every game-improvement iron they had in the shop, and the Hogans were the clear winner. Well, not incredibly clear; the Ping ISI O-Size were a close second. But something about the swing weight of the Hogans felt better to me. Your mileage may very. The softness of the clubhead feel was pretty similar, but the Hogans seemed to communicate more information, while the Pings seemed to mute the information a bit.

The Callaway X-14s were pretty nice as well, with the Cleveland Ta-5 Gunmetals and Taylor Made 360s being perfectly good clubs, but not on the same level as the Pings and Hogans. If I had just picked up the Clevelands or TMs off the rack and hit them, I probably would have marveled at them, but in a side-by-side comparison, well....

I got the Hogans fitted 2 degrees upright, and upgraded to tour flighted rifle steel shafts (5.5 flex, or "regular"). Also, since I use 7 and 9 woods, I got my irons 4-SW rather than the traditional 3-PW.

I picked them up this morning, and I played this afternoon. Staggering. Zero adjustment period. I mean, none. I grooved these things from my second swing on the practice range. I fired an 87 the first time out with my new clubs, which is an extremely good round for me. It's weird how a little thing like 2 degrees of upright lie angle can make such a difference, but it's really noticeable. The shots are straighter, with fewer "surprise" pushes from having the toe of the club dig in.

These irons are about 1 club longer than my old starter set, and on mishits the improvement in really, really big. Very little loss of distance when I missed the sweet spot.

The trajectory is something special. The first few shots on the range, I assumed the ball was carrying shorter due to the height my shots were taking. But not so! As I said, they're actually full club LONGER, but the ball is soaring. Neat. I've never hit such a pretty ball flight before. Straight, high launches, with late apex and very soft landings. All the way out to my 5 iron. I had a silly-a** grin all afternoon.

These are expensive clubs. No doubt about it. But they are really, really special. The feel is silky soft, but they communicate beautifully. I can feel exactly where the clubhead strikes. Pure hits are sublime. I think I've got me a keeper!

The Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons the best irons I have ever played. These irons are very forgiving on mis-struck shots and the loss of distance is minimal. They provide workability of the ball for lower handicap players and the larger sweet spot benefits the higher handicap players. There is very little vibration through the shafts. This is one set of irons that play as great as the look. My game has improved by approximately five stokes since I switched from the Ping Eye 2's. The "E"/Wedge is a little difficult to get use to around the greens.

I tried the usual 5-iron (apex3) into the net at the golf store and was pleasantly surprised at the softness of the hits and the sound of a solid hit. Luckily I found a demo set with apex3 shafts at one of the local courses and gave them a spin, leaving my Firesoles (rifle shafts) in the bag. The day was a +3 club wind and with it behind my back my first hit off the tee was a sweet 3-iron, middle and just over 250. With the hard wind and not using my woods at any time, I came in with a 92. Most of the day's problems were on the green and playing a course I'd never been on before. Had some trouble adjusting to the distance against the wind with this set but all shots were solid and effortless.

It took me almost two seasons to get use to my Firesoles but just over two rounds to get very comfortable with my new set of Hogan Apex Edge irons. Over time I believe this set of clubs will let me work the ball better than I could with the Firesoles.

Of course these are a handsome set of irons, all my golf-buds like them and have taken a couple of swings with them. They too are impressed with the distance, feel and sound of the clubs.

I was hesitant to pay the higher price for this set or anyother set in that range for that matter. I shopped the internet auctions a luckily won a bid on a new set for $535.00 versus $749+tax at GolfSmith. My advantage in shopping the internet is I fit to standard length-standard lie.

Playability 5 stars. Deal...5 stars.

I bought these clubs right when they came out, wanted to play with them for a few weeks before posting a review.....I have a set of '97 Channelbacks that I love and still use but wanted just a little more forgiveness and didn't really care for the Apex Plus....hit these and liked them a lot so I bought a set.....these are wonderful clubs; beautiful ball flight, distance and control...not as sweet as my blades but pretty close...I've had to make two adjustments: they're less lofted than my blades so I've had to club down and on chipping I've had to get used to the wider sole....I've had other improvement clubs that just don't feel near this good, the closest is maybe the i3....expensive clubs but well made and top shelf all the way, as you'd expect from Hogan.....well worth it!

I just posted last review that I can't get the ball well with this BH Apex Edge. Man! I was so wrong. You have to practice and adjust a little bit with Ben Hogan. Now I am hit is correctly, if you swing the same patern, the ball goes exactly the same and drop at the same point. This is unbelievable. 9 out of 10 drop at the same point in driving range. I can't wait to take this set to the real course. With graphite shaft I have to swing smoothly. Then it will pay off. I would recommend this set with graphite shaft to anyone who has smooth swing and looking for forged feel and forgiveness. The best of all, the feel when you hit it at sweet spot, makes me in the cloud nine.
