i've been playing with these irons for about a year now. in my opinion, they are made for people who want to improve their game through technique rather than buy equipment to fit their flaws. when i first purchased them it was the most frustrating experience, everything was a weak fade to the right. as with my previous clubs, i shot in the high 80s to high 90s and the high 80s were mostly by accident. however, through spending the time on the practice range and emulating the better golfers i've played with, these clubs allow me to hit some beautiful golf shots (isn't that what brings us all back anyways? maybe someday we'll be able to hit those beautiful shots consistently.) if you're not willing to put the time in to fixing your swing, don't buy these clubs. i now shoot consistently in the low to mid 80s and have had about six rounds in the high 70s. i can't really compare these to any other clubs because i bought these based on the reviews on this website. i haven't hit anything else except my old ping knock-offs. the thing i like best about these clubs is when you hit one solid the ball feels like it melted into the club. oh, that "butter" feeling is soooo nice! also, mis hits go just as straight but not as far. finally, the club feedback lets you know where you messed up on your swing. understand, until i had these clubs, these were all just concepts to me. it's nice to be able to correct your swing on the next shot and produce a positive result. buying these clubs made me work on my swing and, i believe, made me a better golfer. the game is much more fun that way. find some clubs that help you achieve what i mentioned above and i'm sure you'll love them too. good luck!

These are serious sticks for serious golfers, when hit on the sweet spot, the feeling they provide is fantastic, as smooth as butter. Very good feedback, you know through a nasty vibration in your wrists when you do not hit that sweet spot. They are relatively forgiving, but are not clubs for beginners either. I did not gain 5 - 10 yards by buying those, I did not expected it either, nor I believe any new clubs could have achieved that at least for me, being able to accelerate my swing would. I did not loose any distance either. What I got compared to my previous set, is pure pleasure when hitting good shot, and for me that is what the game is about: pleasure. The workmanship quality is typically Ben Hogan i.e second to none, with no gimmicks, the set is homogeneous throughout. Being forged, a good advice it to protect them with head covers, the draw back in doing that is the possibility to trap humidity during long storage periods, and consequent spot rusting of the faces, not a big deal thow. In conclusion, definitively a club to be considered for medium - low Handicap Players, well worth as far as I was concerned, considering the price I had to pay for the set. There are many more sexy iron sets these days out there, but I am not sure there are many better irons than Hogan forged Irons.

Customer Service

Not particularly helpfull, when I contacted them through the Ben Hogan Website, asking very specific technical questions, I was redirected to the Importer in the country where I reside.

My never ending search for a club that's tailored to all my strengths, and gives me enough feedback to help me work through weaknesses has ended. I've played the game for 25 years, and have been through more irons than I can list, or even remember. These are bar-none the sweetest feeling irons I've ever held in my hands. Close seconds are nearly any Mizuno forged iron, but somehow these set themselves apart. I normally need to make adjustments when switching irons, but the love these clubs showed were instant. No learning curve required aside from learning new distances. It's been a while since I've purchased irons and didn't have some form of buyer's remose on some level afterward. Not this time. Want to feel like that as well?....Buy these irons. Don't just walk to the nearest pro shop, run.

When I bid for these clubs on ebay I thought that they were then CFTs. I am now happy that I made a mistake. I have been a wood player regarding anything higher than a 5iron as a waste of space in the bag. I now use both 3 & 4 irons and am delighted with the feel and accuracy of these clubs. The clubs are fitted with a #3 Graphite shaft. I had an opperation earlier this year and found that the tommy Armour black scot irons with regular Graph shafts no longer worked, I purchased a set of Dynacast irons but these had huge cavity heads and though good the Hogan clubs are better as well as being informative on the ball contact. I hope that callaway keeds this line of clubs going it would be a shame to deny golfers access to such quality

I have had these clubs for about a week now. I have used them at the range about 4 times and on the course twice. Before I played them I had a set of Maxfli Masters cavity back, oversized, game improvement irons. I guesss the one main thing I have noticed is that I am still adjusting to the feedback on these clubs. With the maxflis, it felt like every shot was pure, but with these you can tell instantly where you hit it on the clubface. The feedback is great, and definitely forces you to think more about every shot. I guess the best thing about this set is the way I have been able to attack the pin from anywhere. They make even a skinny struck approach shot spin, but when you hit it pure, man, it seems like it just locks on to the flag like a radar. I do agree with the other reviews that these clubs do require the handler to be a better ball striker than the average golfer, however, you'll find that even badly struck shots don't get punished as much as you think. With that said, there is nothing better than hitting these babies pure. I dont regret at all switching to a forged iron and i don't regret at all switching to the ben hogans. But dont buy these if you think you are suddenyl going to get and extra 15 metres on each club in yuor bag. That's not really what I've noticed. They go the same distance as my cheaper set, yet their consistency and soft landings are the difference. I can definitely see my scores coming down with these. A great, traditional club, that you will enjoy far more if you maintain your game.

I have been using Wilson Deep Red irons for a while (beautiful clubs) but decided try something which would force me to swing more accurately but still with a degree of forgiveness. I have heard many people say that golf is a hard enough game already so why make it harder by choosing less forgiving clubs. I see the point but at the same time the only way to really improve is by challenging yourself. Clubs with a large offset help absolute beginners but I believe that eventually golfers need to choose clubs which do not mask swing faults. Otherwise how are you going to learn a correct swing? These Hogans completely fit the bill. Miss hits result in some loss of distance but hooks/slices are not extreme. However, catch the sweet spot on these forged beauties and the feeling can only be described as effortlessly sweet. The minimal offset makes you focus on grooving your swing. Build quality is of the highest standard. I'm extremely happy with them. Try them out.

I had been looking for a new set of irons after playing 845s since 1990. Tried a set of Hawkeyes, which were really excellent clubs, bit large and lacked the workability I was used to. Looked at a number of different sets, I was always interested in Hogans but never could find anyone that had the apex blades to test. My local club got in a demo set of Apex Pros and I was sold from the first swing. Wonderful feel, great control and the ability to work the ball. Certainly hitting a forged club is what golf is all about. Wonderful club, the 845s of the early 90s with new technology. These clubs are long accurate and fun to play. I suggest enlarging the grips for better control.

I am by no means a low handicapper, I've only been playing a year an I'm only 12 but these are amazing. I used play with some very old blades that even when hit out of the middle didn't ensure a good ball flight. Swapped to these, oh my god! Amazing! The ball flight is perfect for me as I play on a lot of links courses on the coast, Royal Melbourne, 13th beach, which mean if the ball flights too high my card will be shot dead. I'm about 20m longer with these clubs and a heap staighter. I like the medium width top line, it inspires confidence. The thing I am most amazed about is the spin I am getting. I am hopping and stopping, it's great. The only odd thing about the set was the E or Equiliser. It's so powerful! I play half shots 80 or so mtres! Any way I am really enjoying these clubs and am tiring my dad out playing golf nearly every day.
