Adams Golf GT Irons

Adams Golf GT Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Adams Golf: "The Tight Lies GT Irons offer a revolutionary design bringing together the best of both worlds - the first ever irons that offer the combination of steel and graphite in one shaft. Adams' patented multi-material GT Shaft uses a high-strength, graphite tip that is 50% stronger than steel. This means optimal stability at impact for consistently straighter shots." ...More graphite in the long irons promotes a higher ball flight and greater forgiveness, less in the short irons promotes a lower more controlled trajectory.

These clubs are very accurate. I have the graphite/steel shafts and distance and feel are good too. Distance is taking a little while to get used to. They are longer than my old Maxfli Revolutions Midsize and Ping Zings probably because the lofts are a little stronger at least in the short irons. Long iron performance is on par with the Maxflis which is to say very good even for a high handicapper like myself. These irons are a lot more user-friendly than they appear. Do not exclude them because of the way they look.

Customer Service

I asked Adams for club adjustments specs by email and received an immediate response. These guys are service oriented.

I bought these out of curiousity and really like them. They hit the ball higher and longer than my Pings. Feel is muted on off-center hits, but solid on center hits. Lighter than Pings, but very well balanced as I can feel the clubhead throughout the swing (unlike X-14''s, where I lose the feel of the clubhead during the downswing). Very forgiving, toe/heel hits wonder a little offline but don''t lose much distance. My only complaints are the ugly 2 tone finish and the horrible wrap grips. Regripped them with Crosslines and they played great. As for the 2 tone finish, I''ve spent years playing with Pings so I''m used to ugly clubs.

Excellent forgiveness and distance - Make certain that you get the correct shaft flex or it may cause problems hooking the ball - Good bargain for the midhandicapper

Played these for a few months now, and grow to appreciate them more with each passing week. One of the rare "true" breakthroughs in golf technology in my opinion is the shaft, it is the real deal not just typical hype. The balance of this iron is superb, and in my opinion, combined with the GT shaft makes this an exceptional piece of engineering. To me the only fault is the atrocious grips, which, fortunately is something that can be immediately (and cheaply) taken care of. Don''t judge these irons till they''ve been regripped. Unlike most irons today, the lofts haven''t been jacked to ridiculously strong levels, so they may be slightly shorter in the 5-8 irons, compared to say the X-14''s (my old clubs). The difference is neglible, and it''s psychological anyway; every set of irons, strongly or weakly lofted has a club for a particular yardage, but manufactors capitilize on many guys fragile egos by tricking them with ultra strong lofts. All that said I truly love these irons, I am an 11 handicap pushing single digits, if I can improve my putting. Anyone from scratch to a 25 handicap should enjoy these clubs. Bruce Lietke, notoriously fickle about his equipment, recently spent an entire year testing irons, before joining the Senior Tour. He chose the Adams GT''s, and promptly went out and won two events and had 7 top 10 finishes. That says a lot.

I have had these clubs for one year now. The biggest reason I can give anyone to buy these clubs is that they will improve your confidence -- and confidence is everything when you are one the course. These are the easiest to hit clubs that have ever been made. I still wonder if they are illegal at times. I love you Mr. Adams.

After playing with Cleveland TA-5s for a while I finally felt like I wanted a smaller, more blade-like head. These had just come out so I blew some of my tax return on them. I like the way they feel although they seem to be slightly shorter than other clubs I have used and demo''d. Also the trajectory seems to be a bit high, not a good thing in the trade winds of Hawaii. The shaft does a pretty good job of damping vibration, but it also dulls the feedback you might otherwise get from steel shafts. So far I have broken the shafts on 3 of the clubs, all of them at the point where the graphite meets the steel. I recommend that you don''t hit these off of driving range mats. I broke one at the range and I think I can attribute the other two to the range as well. I reshafted 2 of them with TT Dynamic steel shafts and they have become my favorite clubs to hit. I have always hit a draw and I find that I fight a duck hook with these clubs. I feel like they may have a bit too much off-set for me. If you get a set, re-grip them as fast as possible. They aren''t great grips when dry and dangerous to bystanders when wet. In the year that I had them I dropped a few strokes off my handicap and I think I could attribute that to the clubs. All in all, a pretty decent club.

Customer Service

I dealt with them once and they were very willing to help. Kudos to Customer Service.

These are very good clubs and perhaps the best bargain out there at around $500. I switched from Cleveland TA-3s and find these irons much more solid and forgiving. The bimatrix shafts are amazing, providing good feedback, with the soft feel of graphite. They are head and shoulders above my previous Rifle shafts. Although the head size has been reduced to look more bladelike, I find them relatively easy to hit, especially the long irons which have tradtionally given way to fairway woods in my game. More offset makes them much easier to hit. My fairway woods now sit in my garage. The new design is clean and muscular; a huge improvement on Adams past efforts. I could easily paid $300 more for irons that don''t perform this well. As with any clubs, custom fitting is key.

Customer Service

The best I''ve encountered. Received my custom made clubs in 1/3 the time it took Cleveland. About 1.5 weeks. The personalized service was refreshing.

I also review, research, and change clubs often until I find something I like. I hold on to the set I like and then if I play with a set I like better, I will sell. In 12 years of playing golf, I have had only two "official sets" of clubs and have tested and tried at least a dozen over the years. Now I can sell my present set, becasue I now have a new, official set of clubs! These Adams Clubs are sweet! I cannot imagine playing with anything else for a long time. Forgiving, feel, long and just plain sweet! Get a set....you will not be sorry!

I recently went to a golf shop to look at putters. While I was looking around I saw the new Adam''s Ultimate GT irons That Ham & Egg just gave a double ACE and I feel in love. They have the look and feel of a blade iron but hit with the distance and accuracy of a cavity back. I traded in my Cleveland TA-5 irons on these and couldn''t be happier. I''m hitting more greens than I''ve ever done in my life. Golf is fun again! Buy these irons! You won''t regret it.

I have been playing with these irons for 6 months and they are the best, most accurate irons that I have ever used. What has impressed me the most is that I can hit the 3-iron again. I had been moving to a five wood for the 200 yd shot but not hitting that club very well. I am hitting the 3-iron so well, for me, that I ordered the 2-iron which I am also hitting solidly. The trajectory for these irons is medium-high and I have been slightly drawing the ball with good stopping power. I occasionally pull the ball to the left with these clubs, which is more my swing and less the club. The club looks great at alignment and I have improved my chipping with fewer "chunked" shots. The clubs (PW, 9-iron, 8-iron) seem to slide under the ball easily from most lies. The bi-matrix shafts dampen vibrations on off-center hits (sometimes way too often per round) and sweet spot hits are like butter. This is a nice set of irons!
