This is a very good club. I have the 15 degree with a speeder shaft. I've also owned other highly-rated 3-woods such as the Ping i-3 and the Cleveland Launcher, but I prefer the new Titliest 980F to any of them. The thing I like most about it is that when I hit this club well (which is most of the time - it has a fairly small head, but I find it pretty easy to hit)it consistently gives me the same trajectory and distance; other 3-woods I've had might be a little more forgiving, but even when I hit them well they would seem to yield inconsistent results. I guess I've become somewhat of a Titleist devotee, because I also own the new 690 MB irons and think they're terrific. I strongly believe that "players" clubs help you learn the game better than "game-improvement" clubs.

Model Reviewed: 980F Strong 15 Degree Steel

i was really looking forward to getting one of these, strong 15 with a speeder. i was able to demo the strong 15 in steel from my proshop. i was a bit disappointed in the club, found it still had more loft than i wanted (vs. my steelhead plus 3+). didn't like the trajectory and am not sure about the distance. good looking club, i'll have to check out the 13 degree with graphite...

I've been waiting for this club for the longest time. My wait is over and this is the best metal wood I have ever hit. It's actually farther than my TM 320! I took it to the end of the fence which is at 275yds.This is of course with about 30 yards of roll so carry is about 245. It was a choice between this and the Callaway. For $200, the choice was a no brainer. I was hesitant on what shaft to get so I had my swing speed measured. I came in at 117 average and the salesman suggested I go with stiff even though my other clubs are regular flex. Great advice! I love the shaft, it feels solid and straight through impact. No more unexpected hooks when I coil up for a 100% swing. I can work the ball like it's nobody's buisness with this club. The head size is perfect. It keeps you from getting lazy with your swing. I think these mailbox drivers are the wrong things to give a person learning how to establish their swing. Get one! It's a great deal.

This is long and can be worked. Purchased the 15 degree with Titleist stock shaft (stiff.) Once again Titleist produced a great club. This does go as far as my 975J off a tee. The only club I have tested that beats the 980F or my 975J off the tee is the 983K. Expensive in my book, but I had gift certificates to get rid of.

Model Reviewed: Titleist 980F 15 degree

I recently purchased a Titleist 983K driver, and have been amazed by it's accuracy and nice length. This led me to try the new Titleist 980F fairway woods in an attempt to catch some more magic. I purchased the 15 degree 3 wood and once again have been estatic about it's accuracy and feel. However, I was surprised to see that it is LOOOONG! I am hitting this 15 degree between 10 and 15 yards longer than my old 13.5 degree Snake Eyes Fire Forged 3 wood, which is a nice club in its own right. I was a little worried about the smaller sized head, but I think it makes me concentrate a little harder. I can honestly say that I have had very few bad hits, and I have yet to hit a worm burner. I think that is saying a lot since my scores usually are around 90. I have mine set up with the stock Titleist 4375 graphite shaft in regular flex, but there are many shaft options to choose from to fit your game. I recently picked up the 19 degree and while I have only played one round with it the length and feel seemed the same. I feel this is an excellent offering from Titleist which should deserve your attention if you are in the market for a fairway wood.

Customer Service

I have not yet had to use the Titleist customer service, but have heard they are very helpful.

After a year with my Taylor Made 200 fairway woods I decided to see what else was out there. This was the first club I picked up. The pro at the course was a little tentative to let me test it since it was so new, but after a wad of tape and a credit card as security deposit they sent me to the range with it. After a few warm up swings I dropped a ball at the edge of the range. First swing - the ball shot off the face with a beautiful piercing trajectory, landed around 225-230 and rolled a bit. I immediately looked at the face to see the mark the ball had made - dead center. I was sold. After about 2 dozen balls I was convinced that this was the best 3 wood that I had ever swung. The Fujikura shaft is incredible. Very stable through impact. This wood will be in my bag for a very long time.

Customer Service

Always excellent.

I was playing a TaylorMade 580, which I had bought when I bought my R510 driver (which I traded in). While I didn't see a large difference in distance between the TM 510 and the 983K drivers, there was quite a bit more accuracy. The same did not hold true here. This is a much longer club than the Taylormade 3 wood was. Took a bit of getting used to looking at a small clubhead again (the TM is huge). I easily picked up 15 yards with the Titleist. These are MUCH easier to hit than the earlier versions of their fairway woods!!!

Customer Service

Always had a good experience with the people at Titleist. (I play 690 CB irons and Vokey wedges).
