TaylorMade V Steel Fairway Woods

TaylorMade V Steel Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

A fairway wood should be long, accurate, and versatile. Taylor Made's V Steel fairway woods deliver all three of these essentials, thanks in large part to their V-shaped sole that improves the dynamics of how the sole interacts with the turf at impact.

I purchased this Driver approx. 1 month ago. It has replaced my old Titleist 975D, which was a difficult club to replace because it was the last great (persimmon like) feeling metal Driver made. My playing partners were always teasing me to step up to modern technology, but to me so much of the golf experience is feel. Anyhow, I started testing clubs:Ping G2 & G5, Titleist 905s, Nike Sasquatch, Cobra and TM r7 and r5. The one thing that drives me mad, is how these makers give you sub par shafts and charge you and arm & a leg. Cut to the chase, lucky for me I found a major retailer unloading last years r5 TP's with the Diamana shaft for the same price as the stock model $278!!! Tried the the 10.5* with a reg stiffness (I play everything with a stiff shaft) and it was magic! I got them to check the frequency of the shaft and it was 250 CPM's, which is right in between Stiff and Regular, so it's perfect. In short, with this 450cc head, moveable weights(remember this is the TP), and a $300 shaft, you can't lose. In fact, I can honestly say this older club, outperforms the current line up of 2006 offerings. Performance wise, I've gained 20 yards in carry (255yds), and with relative ease. Bottom line, if you need a driver, your search has ended.

I’m still only learning how to try master this game of golf, but I must say the best investment I have ever made is the V Steel 3 wood. Off the tee from the fairway even in the rough it seem it just loves to strike the ball straight I would say the best fairway wood ever used, and I'm playing about 8 years.

I have owned this club for about a year. I agree with other reviews, this club is long and forgiving. It is fairly easy to work the ball (maybe too easy) left or right. Because of that I kept drawing or fading the ball and the misses were too far to the right or the left. I recently replaced the stock stiff shaft with a rifle wood shaft 6.0 and although it is a bit heavier, I have not seen a loss in distance. Yet the dispersion is much tighter and I don’t loose the ball too far left or right of the target anymore. I went with the T/S version because I wanted a low ball flight (although now I sort of regret that and would not recommend it). A major plus (and the reason I purchased this) is that this club has a shallow face and it is easy to hit from the fairway as opposed to other big 3 wood heads (nike, callaway), making long par 5’s reachable in 2. Also for the price, I really don’t think there is anything better out there.

The only 3 wood that I can hit off the fairway with any consistency. I have the steel shaft model. I have tried at least a half dozen other 3 woods from as many manufacturers but this is the one for me. I was told that the steel shaft would impede my distance, graphite would be longer. For better golfers this may be true, but at least I get consistent hits with this club. I can get it in the air and average 175+ yards. With the other clubs with graphite shafts I was all over the place, usually line driving it, or lower, with mediocre distance. Hey, so much of this game is between the ears. I now have a 3 wood I believe in, that's all that counts!!!

This is a "magic stick". I have been golfing for less than a year and this is the first fairway wood I bought. Through lessons and practice my swing has improved tremendously, but this club has worked for me like magic throughout. This is the easiest club to hit in my bag. I have had many others try it out and they have the same opinion. I also used to have the 3 wood (but with a different shaft) and could never get it going like the 5 wood though. Try this 5 wood out. At ~$100 new there is no better value. Also, not that this really matters, but these are the most used fairway woods on the PGA tour.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made V-steel 5 and 7 wood, stock stiff graphite shaft

I bought these 2 clubs because I needed a new fairway wood. I looked on ebay, and found these 2 clubs from the same seller, in demo condition, each for less than $20 with only 1 day left. I only really wanted a 5 wood, but since shipping was free with the second one, I bid on both of them. The price went up, but it was still an amazing deal: both v-steels for $130, shipping inc.

The clubs are great: they make a great sound at impact, and they feel solid when you hit them well. They are the best fairway woods I own. The only complaint I have is that it launches the ball fairly low, but I think it's my fault for buying them in stiff flex, when I would probably get it up higher with regular flex. However, I'm only 16, so my swing will only get stronger and faster, so I'll stick it out with the stiff shafts.

It launches the ball low, but it is very workable. Better players should use this club. Just yesterday, I had to play a shot from 220 yards away, and I had to hook it around a tree. I did that, and the ball rolled just a little bit short of the green. These are also great off the tee. Yesterday again, I hit this club on a tight par 4, didn't hit it good, but it still barely missed the fairway.

I don't think this club should be used by the average weekend golfer, you won't benefit much from this club. However, there are still some TaylorMade fairway woods you could use and get in the air easier, like the R7 titanium, although they are a bit pricey.

Bottom Line, they're great clubs. If you can handle them, you won't regret buying them!

Tried this club for 4 months. If hit perfectly it is unmatched in distance, more often than not, I get a big push or slice probable due to the soft shaft. Currently sold it & hit my 3 iron more consistant. Got a Sonartec NP-99 21* coming in the mail, better shaft & slightly larger head.

This is a top notch fairway wood. Everything is long and straight with the proper swing. I generally hit all of my clubs sky high; I'm hitting this club with a mid launch trajectory off the deck. I'm particularly fond of the sound at impact, very distinct. If this club was lost or stolen I would definately replace it, and maybe even buy the 5 wood. You won't regret buying this club.

I just started golf october of this year. I must say my 5 wood v-steel is awesome!!! Just came back from range. Very easy to hit the ball long and straight. I guess not so long because of my lack of experience (I was averaging 185 yards) Ball seems to jump off the face. Very easy to get high in the air. Bestbuy..especially because of the low price right now!! $109.99 for steel!!!
