Did not like how it felt, very clunky. Also the sound it produced was unimpressive. Fairly forgiving, easy to get the ball in the air. For the price I could recommend many clubs that're much better for cheaper.

I was always hesitant about using Taylor Made woods because of their longer club head, but when I saw this model at Dick's Sporting Goods on sale for $150, I couldn't resist. At first I was hitting around 190, but soon found myself hitting 215, 218, and eventually 232 yards with a 3 wood (not on the tee). I found this to be MUCH more forgiving than the Callaway ERC Fusion which I was also testing. Overall a very solid club and extremely forgiving.

Have the 580 driver so I bought the 3 wood to keep things consistent. Bought it when the R7's came out and paid 199. at Dicks Sporting Goods. Great deal for a great club. For whatever reason, I can hit this club with decent consistency. I now know what reviewers mean when they say "forgiving". Since I shoot in the high 90's, low 100's and not in the 70's, I do have some shots that occassionally go astray, but that's me and not the club. It's forgiving, not robotic. My fairway game has improved with this club. I tried the Cleveland Launcher and can say that this is NOT a forgiving club. In the hands of a better golfer, it is a gem I'm sure. If you hover in the 90-100 range (a place where 90% of amature golfers are, except for the reviewers at this site), a club like the R580 would be beneficial to you. You do not need a lot of club speed to get good yardage, 175-200+, from this club. For a driver, the R580 XD is also a gem, and currently selling for half of the original price(199 instead of 399).

Customer Service

Not needed yet. Heard it was prety good though. I'm not an employee, but if you have a Dicks Sporting Goods near you, they are great. If not, ceck out their web-site. They stand behind their products.

Model Reviewed: R580 3 wood stiff

After reading the reviews on this board I thought that a new 3 wood would be a good purchase. The distance between my driver and 3 wood was too big and between the 5 and 3 wood too small. I decided to purchase the Taylor made r580 to somewhat match my r580xd driver. Now, I hid my driver pretty well, and my redline 5 wood good as well. I was initially going to get a redline but i wanted to try the taylor made. My Impression: Not as nice a feel as the Adams redline. Not as easy to hit from the tee or turf as the adams redline, and not as cheap as the redline. I am also getting a very low ball flight with it, not what i am use to from my other woods. I will say that when I hit it on the screws, the ball sails. It does not feel as nice as the titleist 980 either. The 980 gave me more confidence. ( I tried a buddies)

I am not sure which clubs you guys are all hitting, but they must be somehow different to the one I bought! I found the flight of the 580 3-wood to be WAY TOO HIGH. So much so that it simply ballooned any time I tried to hit it! I even tried reshafting it with my favourite true temper EI 70 shaft in stiff (plays stiffer than normal) to bring the ball flight down, but no luck. This thing is like hitting a 9 wood. While the large head may appeal to a large number of players, I didn't find the shape pleasing on the eye behind the ball. OK, so you can hit this thing a long way with a slow swing, but if you have some game and are looking for a fairway wood you can use of the tee and hit from the fairway, check out the Sonartecs. These are fanatastic and cheaper than the taylors!

Model Reviewed: R580 3 Wood

I was in the market to find a 3-wood to replace my TM Burner and to compliment my new R5 driver, but did not want to fork over $299. After doing some research and looking at several reviews, I decided on the R580. I purchased it great shape and for less than $115.00 on Ebay. Easily one of the best purchases I have made. The R580 3-wood is very easy to hit. It sets up sqare and has a low profile. You will want to tee it up low. Man, balls fly off the club face when you strike it. I have pretty decent distance off the tee and I can honestly say that this club is not much shorter than my driver. When struck well I average approx. 240-250 yds +. It has a very appealing sound when struck well that will remind you of the sounds you hear from the pros on TV, not the "tingy" sound that you hear from all of the 450cc+ headed drivers (like my R5). The club is also very workable and not too difficult to hit off of the deck. The stock TM shaft is also of high quality. You do not want to tee it up high because you will certainly sky it, thus lose distance while marking up your club. Additionally, an overswing (as with a lot of fairway woods) tends to cause a "pop up". With the recent release of the R5 fairway woods, you can find the R580 for a very reasonable price (less than $199 used). I would highly recommend this club to golfers of all levels.

Customer Service

I have not had to use customer service with this, but I would like to mention a past experience with TM about 7-8 years ago. I had a TM Fairway driver that I had bought new. I had it for about a month or so and I was using it at a range. Due to a poor swing, ball teed up too high etc, I actually struck the ball on the hosel. The club head flew onto the range. I gathered my club head and then went home and called TaylorMade. They simply told me to take the broken club to any golf store that sells TaylorMade and have them ship it back to them. I did so and the golf store was given instructions to give me a "brand new" club on the spot--which they did. This company definitely stands behind their products.

This is a solid club. The club sit perfect on the ground. It is so easy to line it up. The penerate ball flight makes the ball goes for a great distance. If you are on the market for a fairway wood, you definite need to give it try.

This is a great club! It has a very nice med-high trajectory with great distance! I can hit it farther than my callaway C4 driver (the c4 is an awful club). I find it very easy to control of the deck and the fairway. It is forgiving but also allows me to shape the shot. Now that the r5 dual is out these things are cheap!

Model Reviewed: r580 3 wood and 5 wood

I must say that these woods are no joke. They give me very good distance with little swing effort. The face squares off so well at address and the weight is perfectly balanced. It blows away the Nike T40 I had. Got them at great deals on Ebay. $152 for 5Wood and $163 for 3 wood. I decided to just buy them after reading the reviews and very satisfied with these clubs. Now I have my R580 3 and 5 wood and R5 Quad driver for life. I have my x-16 Callaways and nice SC putter. I am set for life. There is good reason why Taylor and Callaway are the most valuable clubs.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made 580 5-wood

I am usually not the type to write a review on a golf club, but after just one round with the 580 5-wood, I had to report my thoughts at once. This club is excellent. Earlier this year, I was using brand new Cleveland Launcher Fairway woods, and after playing the TM, I do not think that the Clevelands are even in the same category. On narrow fairways, this club is a wonderful alternative to the driver (I hit it around 220-225), and it was so easy to hit from the fairway - I usually have tough time with fairway woods off the deck, but getting the ball airbourne with this club was abnormally easy/effortless. I own the 580 driver as well, so now my only question is whether to get the 3 or 7 wood to complete my set. Love this club. *Purchased brand new, on ebay, for $192. Not bad.
