Callaway X Fairway Woods

Callaway X Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

The X-Sole design, the clubhead rests on two distinct, raised areas of the sole, eliminating the tendency of the head to rock back and forth at address. That means a more consistent alignment that will help ensure your shots start off on-line. A lower leading edge allows you to hit down under the ball, especially helpful on tight lies. Internal weighting is positioned ideally in each loft. making it easy to get the ball airborne and resulting in a more ideal trajectory.

This has to be the best fairway wood I've owned. After demoing the club, I bought it right away. It looks nice and performs evern better. It has a loud 'ping' when you hit it...very cool. The lower leading edge allows for crip shots from the fairway. Great club, very satisfied! It's a little pricy for a fairway wood, but that'll change as the trend dies down.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X460 Driver 9* Stiff stock Fuji

Tried the FT-3 (draw-bias) and the X460 non-Tour(2* closed) driver, both in stiff shafts. Kept slicing the FT-3 and bombing the X460 straight down the fairway with about 260+ yds of carry. Needless to say which driver is now in my bag! Need to put a smooth tempo, though, on this particular driver and it WILL go a mile. If you try and smash it, it will duck-hook on you. Maybe the Tour Version (square face) wouldn't, but I chose the non-tour for my swing (about 98-100 SS)
When you're riding in the cart up to your ball about 280-300+ yards down the fairway (WAY past your fellow players), the big brass sound when you hit this driver is music to my ears, not to mention the many compliments I receive when everybody sees where (how far) my ball is!!!!!! Makes you feel real good and confident for your 2nd shot.

Customer Service

Top-notch. Came off a 454 driver which they re-shafted for me for free last year.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X 3, 5, and 7 woods

Read up on all the fairway woods out there before making a purchase. Heard lots of good things about the X. So I went out and tried the three wood (stiff, fujikura). I was amazed. I hit the ball long but I'd never hit a fairway wood 260 off the ground before this club. Easy to hit and even miss-hits turn out alright. You can keep this one low or sky it with distance either way and not have to be a pro to do it.ALWAYS long. I'm out driving my playing partners with it off the tee while they're still hitting driver. All my playing partners then went out and bought X drivers and woods after hitting my 3. I've been able to play the 5 and 7 and both are just as long and easy to hit. A lot of guys here have mentioned the small heads. To me it just makes it easier to hit the ball off the sweet spot of the club. I took a smooth swing with the 7 to try and drop on a 210 yard par 3. Ended up over hitting the hole by 20 yards and couldn't have been happier. My playing partners have a variety of swing types- upright, high swing speed, and low and slow-all of us are htting these things with ease.

If you want looong and easy to hit woods try these out. If there is a better wood out there it hasn't been made yet.

I thought I would give the new Callaway X a try for a round. It has a stock Callaway stiff shaft. The club does setup nice on the ground. What I found is that these are very good off the tee. Well you don't hit a lot of 3 woods of tee's. The problem I had was actually the sole of the club. It is so flat and smooth I had a hard time getting it in the air. Once I start hitting down on it then I didn't have a problem. For me I just don't like hitting down on them to get them in the air. I personaly like a 3 wood that the sole will naturually get the ball air born. My Titleist 904F will stay in the bag, it is a lot easier to get the club airborn. I also found the X not a solid as I would have liked, felt a little hollow. I did not try the X Tour and maybe that would be the difference. I would recommend a round with these before purchasing.

Picked up the 3 and 5 woods with the stiff Fuji shafts on ebay after reading the article in GOLF magazine and hitting them at the Haggin Oaks Golf Event (biggest merchandise show in the country- yes, even bigger than the PGA show in Florida). I hit all the new offerings from Taylormade, Sonartec, Cleveland, Ping, Nike, Adams, Yonex, Bobby Jones, Orlimar, Nicklaus, etc...Hands down the Callaway X series are the most SOLID, EASY TO HIT, & LONG, fairway woods I tried. Actually, after working with the callaway rep at his launch monitor I did have between 2-6 yds more distance with the Fusion fairway woods, though at the expense of control. The callaway guy told me that even though the fusions might be a hint longer, they take a much more precise swing to hit consistently. Even the pro's who hit the Fusion driver (Mickelson, Sorenstam, etc) are using the X series for their fairway woods because they're so damn easy to hit. And they do feel VERY solid and stable at impact. The 5 wood is phenomenal from every lie, and the 3 wood makes a great "backup driver" in addition to being easy to hit off the deck. I used to only use 3 wood off the tee, but am now able to attack the green from 230-240 out in the fairway instead of laying up 210-220 with my 5 wood like I used to. These new woods have cut 2 strokes of my handicap. 'Nuff said. You will love these.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X Tour

I picked up a X Tour 13* with a Fujikura stiff shaft the day before we played the toughest course in the state. I got a good high launch and plenty of distance with the X Tour. I used the club off of the tee for the majority of the holes and should have used it more. You will be rewarded with the most lovely sound that a metal wood could ever make, if you strike the ball well. The club is very playable off of the deck. I hit good shots from the fairway, short rough and semi-long rough. I did not seem to lose any distance from any of the three lies that I hit from.

Why the Callaway X Tour?

1. Small head size. There seems to be a trend that is making larger heads for the fairway woods. The larger head sizes are better off of the tee but not as good off of the deck.

2. A good strong loft. I wanted good distance but did not want a club that was unplayable from the fairway.

3. Hey. It's a Callaway fairway wood. I can't recall a Callaway fairway wood that was not at least good. This one is Great. I hit the Nike SQ, Cleveland Steel, Cobra X Speed, Titleist, Taylor Made V-Steel, R5 and R7 fairway woods. None of them stacked up to the Callway X Tour.

There are number of reasons why this club was the Golfdigest's editor's choice. After reviewing about new fairway woods on the market, i headed to local golf shop and tested this along with few other clubs. I have Ping G5 driver and was leaning toward G5 woods. But for fairway woods, i had to settle with Callaway X. And what a great choice i made.

This club sits very nicely at address. The feel of swing and impact is very simple, easy, and solid. The launch from the ground was very delight to watch. I acquired 3 and 7 woods and it is a life saver on par 5s, long par 3s & 4s.
From time to time, i still make horrible tee shot and iron shots. But with this club, i can hit straight all day long. Very easy and solid. This club makes me feel like i am PGA pro. With this accuracy + distance + confidence, i can sit next to Tiger Woods and buy him a drink. I wish i can hit this solid with my driver and irons. Still practicing, but i got to say, with skills in my level, its got to be the clubs. Very easy to hit, and very satisfying ball flight. If you get a chance, please demo this club.

I recently changed all of my equipments and my new callaway X fairway woods are my favorite, hand down.

Love it. Club sits up nice at address, very solid feeling as advertised.

I went with the 7 wood (getting rid of the 3 iron and unable to join the hybrid craze) and have been very happy with it. Almost exactly the same distance (210yds) as my 3 iron but with a much friendlier flight path.

An article I read said some people have swings that work better with either fairway woods or hybrids but usually not both. I am in the fairway camp and this club is solid. I didn't hit the Fusion because I did not want to be tempted to spend the extra $ when you can get a nice deal on the X series.
