Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Spectra Drivers

Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Spectra Drivers

DESCRIPTION

From ZT Golf: "Crown Jewel Spectra has 320 cc of size, 2 inch face height and is metallic black in color. It does not look that big in comparison with the actual size. Feeling is very solid and sound is mid to high pitch. It has a boring trajectory with soft landing, resulting in more rolls. It hits straight and easy with a minimum dispersion."

The best driver "you've (probably) never heard of." This club is AWESOME!!! It is in a class by itself.

After exhaustive research, I had settled on the Taylor 320 over the Ping ISI-Ti and Titleist 975D, because of its tighter dispersion pattern. The Crown Jewel Spectra blows away the Taylor, 975D, Ping ISI-Ti and all other Ti-revolution drivers in every category: feel, optimum ball flight, roll out. It also goes real straight.

The head is similar to the Ping spec wise, only more traditional, beautiful, and not obnoxious. It sounds great, too.

I grew up hitting a Powerbilt Citation persimmon, whose entire head could probably fit inside the sweet spot of the Crown Jewel Spectra. The size of the head is not overwhelming at address, however, and it definitely instills confidence. Tee it high and let it fly!

When you catch this club sweet it ROCKETS with ideal trajectory (to my taste) and hits the ground running. If you don't catch it perfectly, toed or heeled shots still wind up in the fairway, with incredible distance for mis-hits.

The Crown Jewel Spectra is the best value in golf today, period. It will save you strokes AND a couple hundred bucks.

I ought to post this review twice to give the Crown Jewel Spectra the ten stars it deserves.

Thanks to John and Zero Tolerance for improving my game for half the price of those other guys.

This review is being submitted for a friend who I built this club. She has been playing about a year and half.
Height 5'7
weight-188
handicap-20
avg drive distance: 205-220 yds.
club: 11*, 1 degree closed
shaft: Graffaloy Attacklite L-flex

Cosmetics: Beautiful club, only the Maxima 300 is better looking.

Feel: She commented on the fact that she could actuallym for the first time feel where she was hitting the ball on face, compared to here old battlestick driver.
Length: She added 30 to 40 yds witht this club. As she described, it it was very reassuring over tha ball, and she felt that she could swing away. As witnessed by the results she was correct.
Forgiveness: The ball flight was very accurate, long and straight, nice trajectory, with good roll.
Overall impression: to say she was exctied is a mild understatement. The two gents in our group were amazed at the distance and accuarcy she was obtaining with this club. At the end of the round both asked how they could get one.

Bought one used and have had one range session and one round with it. Two impressions have been made to date: 1) it's adequately long, and 2) it really wants to go straight.

The club is a 9 degree with an Innovative Comp LT in regular flex.

The shaft is very nice feeling and I'm glad I didn't go to a stiff. It's very low torque (2.5), but I think it actually plays softer than the PF65 and 75 regulars I've hit. I'd recommend giving it a try to anyone who finds the PF shafts a bit too stiff.

The combo produced very nice results with both trajectory and direction. Even when I got a little over agressive (which usually means my swing gets out to in) the ball stayed in the fairway. Normal trajectory was nice -- not too high, not to low. I caught it thin on one drive last night and still produced a reasonable drive -- ball started low but picked up.

Distance was great. I need more time with it to sort out how hard I can go after it, but my best hits were about 5-10 yards longer than with my old driver, and my worst hits were 20-30 yards longer. I think the latter is due to the club straightening out my tendancy to go left to right.

From a feel standpoint, I loved it. I knew exactly where I was hitting it on the face -- heel, toe, thin, or flush. Despite this as noted above, even my worst shots weren't in too bad shape.

Cosmetically, the Spectra is great looking and sounding. I've heard the Integra IV is loud -- this certainly isn't. The flat crown certainly makes it look like the TiSi at address, but there are lots of differences. The hosel isn't moved back as far, and the paint is quite different. I think it's easily as good looking if not better than the TiSi.

All in all, very enjoyable. I'd recommend the combination and echo the many comments I've read about the Spectra -- it's a quality club.

Model Reviewed: Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Spectra

I put this 8* head on a Fujikura VP80 shaft and took it out for a test run. After playing with it several times, it is still in my bag. Zero Tolerance is a high quality component club designer that many golf club enthusiasts will recognize as the creator of the popular original Crown Jewel driver. The original CJ was intended for low handicappers because of its mid-sized head (270cc, I think), high center of gravity and long, low shot trajectories. If ZT's aim in making the Spectra was to produce a driver that performs similar to the original CJ but that is easier to hit, then they hit the mark. Unlike the original CJ, the new Spectra has a larger head (320cc) and looks a little like the Ping TiSI. However, despite its similarity to the TiSI in appearance, I believe it plays more like the original CJ. To begin with, its pitch is medium to low, generating a solid, crushing feeling at impact instead of a airy, clicky feel. Instead of ballooning like many titanium drivers, the Spectra delivers long, straight, penetrating shots like its popular predecessor. I was not surprised to discover that this head delivers powerful, screaming hot shots that travel satisfactory distances, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that its impressive length is coupled with consistent shot patterns. Besides its size and appearance, the most crucial difference between this driver and the original CJ is that the Spectra, with its enlarged club face, won't punish you on slight mis-hits, making it a great club for mid to low handicappers. I would say that this is a superb driver for those who want a boring ball flight, length, accuracy, and a little forgiveness. Of course, isn't that what we are all looking for in a driver?

Customer Service

ZT is helpful, friendly, responsive, and very confident. I definitely got the feeling that they believe they have a qualify product and are eager to convince customers of that belief.

Model Reviewed: Spectra with Rifle Graphite 6.0

Appearance: First Class. Beautiful fit and finish.

Distance: Above average when hit on the screws. High center of gravity provides for a nice boring ball flight with a premium shaft with mid to high kickpoint. Hit a nice draw and the ball rolls a long way.

Feel: Somewhat muted, but not dead. When flushed it's the wonderful abscence of feeling.

Sound: Mid-high tone, but not irratating. Definitely not the BOINK of a TISI or Integra IV....that's a big plus.

Summary- This is truly a players club that requires a good swing to make it sing. However, for those stronger players it is definitely one to test. I'd put it side-by-side with the OEM's any day. Overall, nice stick. On the Ham & Egg scale I'd give it an Eagle.

I was about to give up on the 9 degree Spectra. Initially it came with a ZT boron shaft that was too stiff. I finally pulled it out and put a UST PF 75 stiff and this has turned into a great driver. I have also been hitting the Maxima 300 and I will put the Spectra in the bag. The Spectra is very long and straight and has a perfect trajectory for me. I can hit the Maxima a little farther on perfect contact but how often does that happen. The Spectra is much longer and sraighter on less than perfect contact. The feel and sound of the Spectra is solid. I will be putting it up against the 10 degree Tisi with the Harrison 2.5 this weekend and I think the Spectra will more than hold its own. Zero Tolerance makes great priducts that are an outstanding value.

Height: 1.68m

Weight: 74kg
Handicap: 7.8
Swingspeed: 110mph

Club: ZT Spectra 8 degree . Used 2 shaft, the first is an Innolite at 45.25 inch with a cpm of 238 and second shaft is an Innovative Comp SL at 45.5 inch. Shaft has been tipped to high kickpoint with a cpm of 248cpm. Grip used is Golf Pride Velvetlite. Head has 10 grams lead tape making an overall weight of 305 grams and swing weight of D6.

Aesthetic
Top view of the club looks very much like the Ping but everything else is uniquely Spectra. Colour is a very neutral black and together with the aimline (Which can be made slightly smaller and cleaner in design and make the finish paint work better in quality) helps to make the club look very friendly. You do not notice the size and the neutral colouring helps as it is not distracting.

Club Performance
I first shafted the club with an innolite at 238 cpm. The first impression of the club was that it was very easy to hit. This club seems to have a very large sweet spot as the ball seems to come off the centre of the face most of the time. A look at the marking on the club however confirms the enlarge sweetspot as there were marks around a 1.5 inch diameter on the centre of the face. Deliberate off centre hits can be felt but the feeling is not harsh and there is a 10% lost of distance from toe hits and amost 20% from heel hits. Ball flight was quite high but there was not any noticeable ballooning of the ball. What was evident was the hangtime of the ball which was not evident with my existing 975D driver. Directional control was good very a tighter dispersion. My normal shot pattern is a fade, with this combo, I was able to draw at will which is a plus.

The next major feature is the length of the drives. My average drives with the 975D is around 265 yards carry. This combo gives me at least 20 yards increase in distance. On the course, I actually smack a feel drives that went 305 yards. On one hole, I had hit the ball into a deep rough more than 300 yards away. While I was looking for the ball, the marshall came by and told me my ball can't be there as nobody hits it that far!

I decided to try the Innovative Comp SL to lighten the overall weight. Due to the 2 inch tip trim, the shaft works as a high kickpoint stiff flex of 247 cpm at 45.5 inch. This new combo helps in tightening the dispersion. Distance is slightly shorter but the increase in accuracy helps. I am doing an average of 9 fairways per game at an average drive distance of 280 yards versus 6 fairways at 260 yards. In the 3 games that I have tested the club, my average score has also come down from 80 to 77.5.

Summary
This club is definitely in my bag and the a few of my friends are interested to get their hands on this too!

I am reviewing the Zero TOlerance Crown Jewel Spectra, 10º w/Pro 2.5 stiff @ 45"

Looks: Nice gray finish, not too overbearing, nice alignment decal.

Feel: Ok. I know right away when I catch it on the sweet spot.

Distance: Longest club I have ever hit. It has a nice trajectory for me, probably higher than a lower handicap would like. Average drives in the 230-250 range.

Forgiveness: When my swing is on this club has great forgiveness, still get plaenty of distance off mis-hits. However I have problems that go beyond mis-hits, and can really block 'em out there sometimes. =o)

Overall I really like this club, I have been using 3-wood off the tee more, however because of my ability to slice it. When the swing is working however, the Spectra is plenty long

Customer Service

John was very courteous and helpful, and exudes confidence in his product.

Boy it's been a long winter in NH! Snow...snow...snow. After 4 1/2 months of not playing golf, I finally got my chance to break out. Do you know how many golf clubs one can build or acquire over 4 1/2 months?....my wife just shakes her head. Well, enough rambling, I've just returned from six days of golf in FLA in the Port St. Lucie area. We played eight rounds on seven different courses in six days. Lots of rust and sore muscles......but it sure felt great to break out of here!

Club Specs:
10deg loft
45" shaft length
Rifle Reg graphite shaft (4.0 deg torque)

Now taking into account the layoff and the tired, sore muscles, I thought the Spectra was great. When I was taking good swings, my drives were in the 250-300 yard range. One drive (with a little wind assistance) settled out at about 330 yards on a 350 yard hole....which was priceless when you consider who was putting out on the green in front of me. The 10deg loft ball flight was higher than I was used to, but I still achieved good carry. Once in a while I would sort of result in a push/fade instead of a draw which I think was due more to my execution and the 4.0 deg torque of the shaft.

The club set up gives you confidence at address and is easy to hit. I'm looking forward to playing with a Spectra. I don't know how many Spectras I will hold on to (that's another discussion) but one will stay in the mix of drivers this year for sure.....they are attractive, solid feeling and sounding, and enjoyable to play. On my last round on the day we were flying back, I started out on the first hole (par5) with a 300yd tee shot down the middle.....somthing that doesn't happen to this golfer off the first tee very often. Congratulations ZT on a very fine golf club!

Spectra is a large looking club, but the size easy to get used to. Sets up very easy.
10* loft SW D1 Lie 55* Shaft ZT Pro 2.5 Graphite Reg. Very forgiving on mis-hits, I wish it were a little heavier to get the feel of the club during the swing.(headweight 198Grams--- 10* seemed to fly high and straight. The more you hit the club the better it feels. Mis-hit shots straightened out with a loss of distance. The slower the swing the better the club performed. If you have a slow even tepmpo this club is for you.
