Model Reviewed: Crown Jewel Maxima 330 with Graphite Design YS-6 shaft (SX flex ~ stiff)

Personal -- 46 yrs old, 5'10", 165lbs, swing speed 100-105 mph. Club - Maxima 330 9*, Graphite Design YS-6 SX-flex shaft (~stiff), 45" length, Lamkin Quartercord grip I've had this club for three months, including many sessions on the range and on various courses (incl. Kapalua and Wailea on Maui). Like other reviewers here, I was looking for a larger sized head that didn't look like a ballon at address. So I'll say "ditto" on all the other reviews regarding appearance and design. The YS-6 shaft looks great with this head, too. I got the also Lamkin quarter cord grip, which is black w/ gold trim. The head/shaft/grip combo looks very classy. I can echo all the other reviews here regarding the sound at impact and forgiveness of the head. Both inspire an easy swing, rather than over-aggressive. But what I really want to tell you folks about is the head-shaft-grip combination. The shaft-head combination are silky but also packed with power. The YS-6 shaft is light-weight, which makes it easy to swing and might add a few mph to swing speed. On an average (imperfect) hit, the feeling is solid and smooth, with decent distance. On a great hit, the feeling is sweetly muted (like dark chocolate!). Only when you look up at the ball rocketing into the distance do you fully appreciate the power that was transmitted to the ball. The shaft has never felt uncomfortable, whether I was swinging easy (80% power) or really standing on it (>100% power). Kinda like a sports sedan that is comfortable in city traffic and also flat out on the Autobaun. I get a good mid-trajectory with this head/shaft combo. Previously, I had an Adams ST 10* with Bi-Matrix and my trajectory was rather low. My best drives were 250, with 225-230 more typical. With the 330 and YS06, I can easily average 250-250, with best drives at 270-280. My normal shot (when I'm swinging well) is straight or a very slight fade. The 330 plays pretty neutral for me. This club does not correct my swing flaws (swing plane a bit out-to-in, resulting in either pull left or slice). But I don't want a club to correct that fault. Good swing mechanics are rewarded! Like golfclubreview.com says, mistakes left are more common. I wouldn't recommend this club for chronic slicers. Now that I'm working/adjusting less during the swing, my consistence has improved. I used to hit 2 to 5 fairways per round and now it's 5 to 9. The Lamkin Quarterchord is both handsome and very functional. Just enough cord to provide a solid grip under the glove hand, but not rough on the hands elsewhere. More durable than the soft grips I was using before. VALUE -- this club is as good as better than OEM clubs costing $150 more.

Customer Service

Ken Lopez at Pure Impact was great. Unprompted, he sent an email asking questions about my swingspeed and shaft choice.

After hearing good things about the Max 330 and having played and liked the Maxima 300 I decided to order the Maxima 330. After getting used to the slightly closed face, I have really loved this driver. It had good looks, a nice solid feel, and is forgiving. I'm a short hitter generally but the 11* loft on this Maxima 330 has gotten me greater carry distances than just about any driver I have tried. I haven't played any other driver all year!

I use a lot of different drivers. I built this 330 with a Graphite Design YS6 R flex shaft. This driver is 25 yards longer than any driver I have hit which includes TM R360 *Europesn) w/AJ Texh Shaft, Callaway ERC2 with GD YS8shaft, TM 360 with Harmon Shaft by UST, KZG 325 with AJ Tech shaft. This driver has a solid feel and performs better than expected.

Customer Service

The customer service from ZT is exceptional.

I'm an 18 handicap with respectable distance (average 250-270 total drive) and poor consistency. The Maxima 330 is a beautiful head; it inspires great confidence at address. I paired a 9* Maxima 330 head with a Grafalloy Prolite 35 S-flex shaft. I find the combination to be much more appealing than my previous 975D/EI70 combo. Center hits feel completely smooth and lush, while off-center hits provide adequate corrective feedback without being overly negative. Unlike the 975D/EI70, I don't feel like I have to crush the ball to get a good result or good feedback. Toe hits are a bit more forgiving than other misses, they are brought back to the center with some loss of distance, but all around this is a forgiving driver. Sounds good too, with a nice "thock" on midspeed center hits, and a more exciting "crack" on higher speed center hits. I am definitely pleased and recommend this driver as an alternative to OEM titanium drivers.

Customer Service

Seems like a nice bunch of people, I wish them the best.

Personal Info: - 29 yrs old, 6 Foot 200lbs - 0.7 index - Driver swing speed approx. 110 mph - 5 Iron swing speed approx. 92 mph - Tend to hit a draw Specs: - 9* ZT Maxima 330 with 45 ½ inch XLT Stiff shaft tipped ½ inch - Swingweight of D4 - Tour Velvet grip Appearance: - The club head appeared to set up just a touch smaller than the 330cc that it is (which I like). - The finish on this club is very nice, but at the same time it is not distracting like some other clubs out there. Performance: - Distance was very good on this club. I found that the best point of contact was just a touch high on the center of the face. I like the fact that on the face you can look at it after every drive and see dimple marks from where you made contact with the ball. Toe hits seem to be more forgiving than heel hits. The trajectory is what I would describe as a somewhat driving. For my swing, the ball seems to come off the face just a little high (Not high enough to be concerned about it though). I actually like the trajectory because I get a little more carry than I am accustomed to. This has allowed me to fly it over fairway bunkers that were previously in my landing area. I don’t get as much roll after the ball lands as I used to, but this is obviously due to the trajectory that I am hitting the ball. Feel: - The club feels very solid on center hits. On toe hits, it feels ok. The only thing I don’t like is the feel on a heel hit (But I have yet to hit a driver that feels good to me on a heel hit). The sound is very nice, sort of a muted thud. I like the fact that I can hit balls on the range and this driver does not echo through the entire facility. Conclusion: - This club has found a home in my bag. It is an excellent piece of equipment that can be used by the scratch player to the 30 handicapper. I would recommend this club with confidence to anyone. Also, John was superb to deal with.

I finally decided to have myself custom fit for a driver and fairway wood. After much research on the web, and numerous discussions with various people in the club-building industry, I opted for this driver and matching 3 wood. At 37 years of age, I'm trying to get away from the "grip it and rip it" theory, which worked well when I was younger and playing on the York University varsity team. But now, it is very wearing on the body, and by the end of the season, I have a collection of pulled and sore muscles. I've never had too much trouble with control, and distance was always pretty decent. I wanted a club that I could swing much easier(a.k.a. Ernie Els), but not give up too much distance. This club is just the ticket. I seem to be able to swing 10-12 miles an hour slower, and not lose ANY distance: the ball absolutely explodes off of the Beta Titanium face. I believe the grooveless hitting area on the face also helps to reduce side spins, thus producing a straighter shot. Dispersion of shots at the range seemed much tighter, with fades and draws being much less pronounced. I have always hit a fairly high ball, so I've matched it to a ProForce 75 stiff shaft(which has a slightly higher kickpoint than the 65), and the results are awesome. I love the trajectory and how fast the ball comes off the face of the club. I can also say that the same holds true for the 3 wood I had made, although I put a Titanium shaft in this club for a little more flexibility (reg. flex). I have never hit a set of woods with quite the same "punch" without having to really go after it. What more do we average golfers want in a club? Great distance, great control, and very cool-looking midnight blue heads - at a significantly lower cost than the Callaways, Pings, and Nikes available out there with who knows what shaft in them!!! That is, is the flex, swingweight, length, etc... suited to your swing characteristics? The staff at Ollie Golf were very patient and helpful. John who built my clubs spent many hours talking with me and testing me before we decided on the correct head and shaft. Workmanship seems to be maticulous. You just don't get that kind of service at the "Mega Golf Stores", who carry a million different makes and models of clubs, and really don't care which one you walk out with. Thank you Zero Tolerance and John!!! I look forward to some great golf next year.

I am 5'9" 210 and have a solid quick tempo swing. This driver has the XLT 70 S shaft and is 9* with 1/2* closed face. Setup is excellent and very easy. Ball flight is medium for me with a little fade. Distance is first rate equal to my Launcher. This driver is very easy to hit consistently and fit and finish is excellent.

Customer Service

Excellent. Better than most OEM. John is very helpful and actually calls you back.

Specs 330 10* .5* open Grafalloy Prolite 45, 44.5" finished length. I heard a lot about ZT and the Maximal, so decided to give it a try. This is beautiful club, looks great and gives a lot of confidence at setup. Ball flight is medium-low trajectory with lots of roll. In 3 range sessions carry is around 230-240 and total distance is around 250-260. In 3 9 hole rounds I have hit 5 out six fairways consistently. All misses were hard pulls, which I have a habit of doing. Mis-hits are not bad, some loss of distance, but I still out drove my playing partner. This club will be in the bag for awhile

Customer Service

John is great to work with. Very helpful

Stick: Maxima 330, 10°, 1° closed, 199g Stock filament-wound ZT XLT-70 shaft, stiff flex, 45.25" finished length with a GP Tour Wrap at D1. John Lee tells me that the XLT shaft is made by a well-known aftermarket shaft company. Appearance: The Maxima 330 is a great looking head. Finish and paint job surpass a lot of the bigger OEM offerings. The brushed face area is huge for a driver of this size and the face is very deep. Headcover is quality and looks good. Overall product look is (from someone who works in design) excellent with the head and stock shaft. Strong work in this department again. Feel/Sound: The club has a good, solid feel. Not a 975D or Bang P2 but better than most of today's titanium. Fed a few out there in the 265 range and misses ended up at about 235. Drastic misses at the toe and the extreme periphery of the face lost more (go figure). Thin was OK. Overall distance seemed excellent....a bit more than my Maxima 360. This is a long, hot clubhead...balls jump off the face and you get that 'unloaded on it' feeling. Forgiveness is almost on par with the ZT 360 or the TF360, even though the face area is similar, if not bigger overall. Trajectory is high, as expected with a 10 deg club that is 1 deg closed. But the ball carries well and does not balloon. This is a low-spin driver and there are painted scorelines on the face (black) but these are very thin and give way to a bald area in the middle. Verdict: Very high performace driver, excellent price. .... it equals or blows away other OEMs costing 3 times the price. I would recommend to anyone.

Club Specs: Maxima 330 stamped on sole: 10*, no sticker; shaft ZT XLT 70 regular, tipped to 245 to 250 cpms, OAL 44 ½” Maxima 400 stamped on sole: 9*, sticker: loft 8.5*, face angle –1*, weight 201 grams; shaft ZT XLT 70 regular, tipped to 245 to 250 cpms, OAL 44 ½” Appearance: Absolutely drop dead gorgeous blue heads, XLT 70 shafts looked a perfect match to the heads. I found no problem with the size of the alignment mark as others have noted. Ball Flight: Maxima 330 Ball trajectory was high, too high for me but I’m a high ball hitter. I replaced the ZT XLT 70 shaft with a MFS 65N shaft (R2, tipped 1”, OAL 44 ½”) and everything was PERFECT. Ball flight was long and boring, normal flight was a slight fade, but I could easily hit a draw. In fact this is the only driver I have ever been able to draw or fade on demand. Previous favorite shaft was the Apache 58 Micro, the 65 N is very similar and even better IMO. Maxima 400 Ball trajectory was good but ball flight was a large fade ( -1* open face has to be a big contributor to the flight), no way I could turn this driver over. Distance was a less than the 330 again probably due to the fade and open face angle. In the Bag: The Maxima 330 replaces the Maxima 360 and PFT 300. Perfect control and great distance. I also tried the Bang P2 (10*, Apache 58 Micro, regular shaft, tipped to 250 cpms) and SMT Baltursol (9.5*, Accruflex Pro, regular shaft, tipped to 250 cpms). P2 likes to go straight, Baltursol’s natural flight is a slight fade. Either P2 or Baltursol could have made the bag if I had not also tried the Maxima 330. The 330 is as long or longer and so easy to control / work with the MFS 65N shaft.
