Following some lessons at the end of last season I had to go on the hunt for a new driver. My old Wilson Deep Red II had a draw offset that I didn't need any more.

905 R 10.5 degree V2 X-stiff
I have been hitting Titleist since the first generation 975J. I also had the 983K and now the 905 R. I find that Titleist had gone away from the old pear shape a little bit with 907, but have returned with the 909 series. Big headed drivers with big MOI and forgiveness are here to stay. I will say I have a hard time finding a better model that Titleist has made than the 905 R. I feel I can still definitely work it with the R. I am a drawer, but I can alter my mechanics and grips and hit reasonably reliable cuts. Like all the new bigger drivers, the 905 R has the vertical gear effect when hit purely on the top two grooves on the sweet spot. If you read about golf swing physics you will know about this. If you do not essentially when the ball is hit in this special place, (which you can tell with this driver), you get higher launch angle and lower spin. Higher launch angle has been shown to increase distance and lower spin keeps the ball in the air longer. ALL golf shots are hit with back spin which causes lift on the golf ball. Lower spin prevents the ball from prematurely falling back to the earth. Anyway, the 905R does this as well as any other drivers. I think maximum COR and vertical gear effect have kind of leveled the playing field in high end drivers. This driver has not sufficiently added length over my other Titleist, but when I do hit the club in that sweet spot, it is probably 5% longer than my old 975J and 983K. This may even be an exageration. I particulary like the x-stiff and 10.5 degree loft. I have a driver swing speed of 102-105 mph. I carry the ball about 260 yds off tee with an above average contact. Many people will lie to you about this. Also, even with all the new age tech of this club, you can flight it lower and you can reliably still hit draws, fades, cuts or hooks...if you could hit them before. In conclusion, very nice club, with enough feel, but all the niceties of the high tech to not have you suffering distance envy. Even some current pros agree, ie zach johnson, this is probably the best driver they have made to date. I haven't tried the 909 in comparison |

905R
I first purchased this club a few years ago with the proforce v2 shaft and i must say the 905R was pretty sweet. But just recently I warped the face on the driver and I sent it back to titleist for a swap or fix. As it turned out, they no longer offer the 905R and they ended up sending me this 907D2. Well to put it mildly, I was completely un impressed with the D2. The D2 just has a un appealing feel when hit and i think i lost major yardage. So i decided the 905R needed to be in my life again. I scored with a great deal on ebay. The 905R is so deep off the tee and it looks like an actual driver without that square nonsense. It has the Aldila nv65 and it is just sweet. It feels great in my hands and it has the awesome Titleist crack sound when you hit it well. Overall i think the 905R is the best driver ever made by Titleist. For now they can keep all their fancy technology, i need a driver that puts me deep in the fairway and the 905R is that driver. |

I bought this driver about 18 months ago after giving up my 983k for a Launcher. I then went to a number of clubs - Launcher comp, Cobra 424, 905t and even a Bang. I never really felt comfortable with any of them. I was fit with a launch monitor and the NV was said to be my shaft ( know one knows your swing like you, and watching some hack stumble through a fitting was sad. Thank god Roger Dunn did not mind that I brought back 4+ drivers). Well as it turned out it was not. Like a putter, a driver (really all clubs) is a personal preference based on fit, feel, and performance. This inspires confidence, which breeds results. My $ .02.

this driver has been keeping me in a lot of fairways this year alowing me to shoot some nice rounds in the low 80's,the 10.5 with the aldila nv r flex shaft seems to fit my swing perfectly my swing speed is at high 80's to low 90's i'am getting 220/250 which for me at 57 i'll take that any day not a hard driver to control as some may think ,you don't need to be a low handicapper to use this club,it can improve your game ,just get the right loft and shaft for you and you'll see what this driver can do for you. Titleist 905R
I have been looking for a driver that suits my game for some time and have tried pros, various loft and speed machines etc with little success. Having read many reviews I decided to try Titleist clubs. I was loooking for a lower trajectory and "hot" flight. I can safely say that the Titleist (8.5 degree, Aldila NV 65R)exceeds all my expectations and has added at least 40 yards to my drives with an improvement in accuracy also. I do not believe these are low handicacp clubs and some careful experimentation with loft/shaft combination i'm sure would result in a great club for most. Well done Titleist, i'm a complete convert. Classic style, good components and great performance. I have tried all makes and Titleist is the only one that gives the desired results. Bought this club off of Ebay for a very good price. Was leary of the Regular flex, but at 58 years old,it turns out to be the right shaft for me.I was hitting the ball a little high with this club, but after teeing it down lower it took off in the right flight. When I hit it in the screws the ball goes way down there.I draw the ball with this club, which gets a lot more distance from the roll. This club has put my Taylor Made 580 into retirement. 905R 10.5* with Aldila VS Proto
I purchased a used 905R the same day someone pulled a VS Proto shaft from his 907D2. I had the club immediately reshafted with the VS Proto with a full bore insertion. This is by far the best driver ever made. I used to have a 905R with an NV-65 shaft and got rid of it for some reason. Since then I've tried every driver (see list below) and ended up going back to the 905R. This includes the 907D2, which I did not like. I have a natural draw with a snap hook as a miss and the VS Proto does not tend to promote a hook nearly as often as the NV-65 did. Given my natural shot shape I cannot hit the new game forgiving drivers as they all have closed face angles and heel weighting, which is rediculous! A square face angle with the center of gravity in the middle fo the clubface; what a novel idea. I think this club is very forgiving. Hit it on the toe and the ball draws; hit it on the heel and the ball fades. Note I did not say hook or slice. Poor swings, within reason, still find the fairway. I say within reason because I guarantee I can slice a square driver if I try to. Also, the face shape is perfect. It's not too tall so there is no need to tee the ball high. I can hit the ball high to ride the wind or low to keep the trajectory down. I've hit more fairways with this club than any other driver. Highly recommended. Customer Service I've heard good things about Titleist customer service, but haven't needed them yet.
