Titleist 983K Titanium Drivers

Titleist 983K Titanium Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The 983K driver features a 365cc full pear profile. The larger head size compared to the 983E, produces a moderate launch angle and higher moment of inertia for playability. The slightly heel-biased internal weighting and deeper CG produce a moderate spin rate and an easy-to-square face. The result is a highly playable driver with an ideal initial trajectory, and long downrange flight.

Lately I have been looking for a high performance, new technology driver, as I had been playing an Orlimar 9.5+ driver which was very long but not forgiving. One of my demands in a new driver was to match the Orlimar's distance, while being more forgiving but not TOO big. Well folks my search for a driver is over! My natural ball flight is a fade (which I personally detest) and I have been working on hitting a consistent straight-to-draw ball flight. And boy o boy this driver excells at this, and in fact when i purposely tried to hit a fade to see how bad it was it only faded about 2 feet! I'm told this is because of the internal draw-bias weighting but who gives a damn just as long as it works. Also this driver doesn't have a hook face like the cobras, only draw-bias weighting, so if you're in fact a better player than I am you probably will not have too much trouble fading the ball. On top of all these benefits, this driver has scorching distance! Just today on a 480 yard par five I went after it and it ended up dead middle fairway at about 145 out (thats a drive of 335 yrds with little to no wind). If you are skeptical of Titleist distance like I was, due to the 975D limits, throw that out and go but this driver now!!! But remember, try all of the custom shafts as different ones suit different people's swings better than others. I prefer the prolite as it isn't overly stiff and unresponsive as it's aftermarket counterpart and also, buy from eBay for half the price but watch who you buy from. These drivers are built with the utmost quality and they are understandably expensive, but as long as you get it off eBay it's not too bad so i'll give it a five for value as well as for overall performance.

Customer Service

I wouldn't actually know but i've heard they are not too bad.

This driver is the best driver ever made, Im left handed with a 90-95 mph swing speed I demoed all shafts and decided on the YS-6 regular flex, the 4560 felt pretty good also. I demoed all the high end drivers, Taylor Made 540XD, cobra 400SZ, Cleveland launcher, Calaway GBB II, and nothing can even touch the 983K, This club hits BOMBS!. Good swings produce a nice high ball flight, and off center hits go just as far, even with a bad swing this club is very forgiving. Everything about this club says confidence, the way it looks, sounds, and feels. The best thing about this club is the explosive feel at impact, it feels like nothing I have ever tried before, this club is at least 20 yards longer than my old nike 300cc driver. Go by this driver NOW!

This club is absolutely great. I have been playing with a Nicklaus 430 which is not a bad club but it doesn't match the 983 in distance, feel, or workability. I normally play with guys that have 4 hdcs and they could out drive me 15 yards. It really iritated me because I am physically stronger. I have had the new driver for 5 days One day at the range and today on the golf course and on several holes they played thier second shots first. That is a good feeling because they both have titleist drivers also. I didn't know I didn't like the big headed driver until today. The 983 is just the right size for me. I would recommend this club to anyone and the best thing is you find them on ebay for under 300 and thier even cheaper for right handed players.

Model Reviewed: Titleist 983K 9.5 ProLite S

In 2003 I bought a 983E 8.5, and while solid shots were great, misses turned out really badly. Switched to a MacGregor V-Foil 350 8.5 with a YS-6, loved it and played it the rest of the year. Got the itch to switch and decided to try a 983K. Found a used 9.5 with YS-6, and since I really liked that shaft in the V-Foil, gave it a try. Really bad results! It felt way too light, the toe flipped over too easily, and hitting everything left was the norm. The club was 44 3/4" and D-0, which is too light. Titleist's spec is D-4 @ 45". Tried lead tape on the bottom to get SW up to D4, but to no avail. Reshafted with ProLite S, at 45", but had to put a lead pin in the tip of the shaft to get it to D4, otherwise would have been D1. Better, but still had a lot of hooks, and it still felt light and not very solid or punchy. Was about to give up on it, but put lead tape on the middle of the toe to bring the weight up to D6+ and tried it. UNBELIEVABLE difference!! - no more hooks, much more solid feel, better sound, more piercing trajectory. It's a real keeper now, amazing what a difference that made.

Customer Service

emailed Titleist re: the D0 swingweight - they said yep their spec is D4, sounds like you might need to change shafts!!!

I'm a true "bogey" golfer looking to take it to the "next level". I revisited the game two years ago (it was much simpler as a kid growing up on a private course), I found that I developed a nice little fade off my Driver. After alot of research and demos (Launcher, Bertha 2, Cobra, Nike) I went for the Adams Redline 8.5. I have played it for six months and found the extra length, HUGE head, and "hollow" sound not to my liking. I decided to demo the Taylor Made R540,R580, and the Titleist 938k (all @ 9.5 degree). I hit 2 buckets with these against my Adams and the others, andchoose the Titleist. I have since played three rounds with my VERY CONSISTANT 938k w/Aldila NV Stiff Shaft and am hitting many more fairways. Great Club!!! Distance is equal with the Adams, yet more fairways hit (AND ALOT MORE QUIETER)! Yahhooooo!!!

I was using an Adams GT363 11-R before. Decent distance, but I was having trouble with accuracy. I'm now hitting more fairways with almost as much distance (with the Titleist). I'm new to golf and a good drive for me is something in the 200-210 range. The 983K feels very light and the 4560 R-flex shaft feels more firm than the comprable Adams.

Model Reviewed: Titleist 983K with Stiff Grafalloy Prolite shaft 10.5

I had a Titleist 975D 10.5 with Grafalloy Blue Stiff shaft. That club worked well, but was getting old, and I wasn't getting my distance out of it. I then bought a Cleveland Launcher 400cc with a Grafalloy Prolite Stiff shaft. That worked well, but I didn't like the feel of the ball, and couldn't work the ball the way I wanted to. I paid the money and bought the 983K with Grafalloy Prolite shaft. This club is amazing. I can work the ball the way I want, and I get perfect distance. I can tell where the ball will land when I hit it. I play 4-5 times a week, even in the winter I either play (if its nice out) or go to the driving range. FYI--I have a 3.4 handicap, and play from the Championship tees. My 7-iron goes about 175 flat lie, no wind. This club comes with many shafts so try them out. I had the Fujukura Speeder, and couldn't work the ball so I switched to the Grafalloy and it works great. I highly recommend this club to any golfer of any experience.

I'm not one of these guys that hits the ball 300 yds. I have a very slow swing speed & my average drive before buying the 983K was 180 -200 yds. I have a 17.5 handicapp from the whites' & usually shoot 85 to 91. I owned 6 drivers before buying the 983K, 1 Nike titanium driver & 5 steel heads. None of these drivers had as solid of feel or noticable explosive impact as the 983K. The ball comes off the face with alot of energy. My drives are now averaging 220-240 with no increase in swing speed. The shaft is the regular flex Titleist 4560. I still have my slight fade but occasionally get surprised with a push to the left. I am still on the fairway 80% of the time. I made a mistake by letting my wife hit it once. She hit it about 30 yds further than her Wilson Big Red & now wants one. I would highly recommend this driver!!

Model Reviewed: 983K 9.5 Prolite Stiff

I had a 975D 7.5 with a Innovative BTD-45 stiff shaft. As I started to play less rounds, the club became more difficult to hit. So I decided I needed something more forgiving to keep the ball into play. My choices were pretty easy since I decided to stick with Titleist (the products have been good to me). It was going to be either a 975J or the 983K. I bit the bullet and decided to go with the K because the price was right. Not to mention all of the great reviews. I got the speeder and couldn't hit it (low snap hooks), traded it for a YS-6 and hit it pretty good but the trajectory wasn't what I wanted. So I traded it for a Prolite Stiff and BAM!!! This was it. Nice launch angle and high trajectory - just was I was looking for. So if you are going to pick up a 983K, try to demo all shafts. One of them will fit you perfectly. FYI- I used to be a 3.4 handicap and have a natural subtle left to right ball flight (about a 5-10 yard fade) . My swing speed is around 98 - 108 depending on how I'm swinging on that particular day. I hit an 8 iron 150 yards - no wind and a flat lie.
