Being on an 8 handicap I was looking for a driver that was less forgiving but delivered good quality when hit well. Found this on Trade Me( New Zealand's eBay) for NZD$70($45ish US). This is an extremely long driver or at least longer the Taylormade R540XD that I owned previously I think this has a lot to do with the high quality shaft and lower more penetrating ball flight, I was constantly up with or out driving my playing partners who all have the newest best things on the market (G5s TMR7s etc...). However it wasn't the distance that impressed me most it was how forgiving it was, supposedly having a sweet spot the size of a 5 cent coin., mis-hits were consistently in play and not too far behind well hit drives. Having said that I would not recommend it to a beginner.

After 3 years of trying so many drivers, I finally got a driver that fits my swing. Its is a USD30 975D, 10.5* ! The distance is comparable to the drivers I have used before, these are the GBB2, 540XD,540TP, Cleveland Comp460, and the Ignite 460; thus, I would say regardless of what driver I use, I still would have a distance of 250 to 265 yards... What I liked about this driver is the weight (heavy head), I can feel the head back and through - I LOVE IT. Ball flight is draw ! Highly recommended......... I found this driver cheap on ebay, about $30 and I found this club superb when hit out of the middle, I hit it further than the new "big" 460 drivers and when i first took it to the range i was in love, god i even slept with it. I then took it to the range again and i found my dreaded slice had returned i was so dissapointed but everytime it came out the middle it went a mile just a shame about the forgiveness. I had the stock Titleist regular to try and help the forgiveness but alas, no change i'm afraid. Hey all in all this driver is excellent if you are a low handicapper or shoot in the 70's. For now though i'll stick with my callaway x460 10 degree stiff. Customer Service not used |

This is an excellent driver. I have recently found this driver in a 2nd Swing store. Guess how much I paid for the club, $7.99 because there is a little scratch at the top. I took this club and the Callaway 454 which I paid over $250 to a golf range, and I got pretty much the same distance (270-300 yards) and accuracy out of the two. But it is a lot more comfortable for my eyes to look down on something that is not as big as a bowl. And the 975D is much more workable than the Callaway. I am now looking forward to my next outing with my golf buddies, and I want to see the expressions on their face when they get beat by a $7.99 driver. This is a great driver. I am now trying a Taylormade R7 Quad, but I can't talk myself into getting rid of this one. It turns my normal fade into a straight to slightly drawing flight. It is the first driver that I had to work to get a fade out of. It is easy to work either direction, though. If you can get one cheap, go for it. I think the smaller head is easier to square. I'll post a review on the Taylormade once I get used to it. Similar Products Used: Taylormade TiBubble II, Titleist 983 K, Taylormade R7 Quad |

Titleist 975D driver, factory stiff ultralite shaft
Bought this driver about five years ago and won't ever need to "upgrade." I don't even like hitting other drivers for fun. I've won four long-drive contests with it (I'm only 5-8) and can hit it 260 to 280 with a slow, easy swing — when I hit it in the screws. The pop-ups even go 250. Easily the best money I've ever spent in golf. Customer Service none needed Similar Products Used: none |

This driver is phenominal! Used the Taylormade 540 for the last year and started losing control of it. After reading the 100's of reviews of the 975D I decided to give it a try. $40 at 2nd Swing Golf. It took 3 different tries to get the right shaft and loft combo, but the 3rd time was a charm. I know this club is a technological regression but the results speak for themselves. I've played 4 rounds with it and am amazed at the boring trajectory and roll I get with this driver. My goal was to recover some accuraccy but was pleasently surprised that I gained distance as well due the lower trajectory and added roll. I normally take the claims of 300 yard drives with a grain of salt, until I experienced it myself several times over the last 2 rounds(314 -being the longest so far). Average drives 275 to 285 yards and in the fairway or in light rough. With a bad swing you can get horrible results, but I have found that the focus required for this driver keeps me from getting sloppy with my swing. I'm back in the high 80's again, since I'm not hitting my 3rd shot from the tee anymore. By the way my short irons and wedges are really getting a workout now! Best $40 I've spent on golf in years! The comments on the tee are fun too! Especially when I rope one 20 to 40 yards past the rest of the guys, after they've hit their best drives with their MONSTER drivers. Titleist 975Driver
I am a small guy. 24 years old, five foot eight, 130 pounds... so I am not a long hitter. I hit my irons like this, PW=110, 7 iron=140 3 iron=180. But with this driver(8.5 degree) I can hit it with the big guys and I am shocked. I usually, with past drivers, have averaged a 220 yard drive and I've been playing since I'm five. With this driver I average 250 yds and am loving every minute of it. Today I drove the green on a 290 yard par 4 and made my second eagle of the day(one on a par 5) and shot a 1 under 69. I never thought I could drive the green on that hole, so I teed off with a foursome still putting ahead. It was bitter sweet b/c the drive carried all the way to the green and rolled to the back of it near the pin. I nearly hit a guy and didn't know what to do but hope they didn't up my ball, which they so kindly didn't. 10 minutes later they finished putting and I was able to walk the hole and marvel at what I had done thanks to this new driver. I've hit a few ridiculously long drives with this club, one went 330. Soon my driving average should be closer to 270 and I can always count on a straight drive whenever I need it with this club, but slow my swing down to get that kind of consistent accuracy. It's easy to fade and draws beautiflly if hit correctly. 5 stars for this driver. I can't afford the oversized ridiculously expensive drivers out there, but am more than happy to save my money and use this club. Customer Service Great, they re-shafted it for me and even put a little lead tape on it. I've since taken the tape off, b/c I don't think I really need it now. titleist 975d Driver
I have had this driver for about 3 years or more and i have to say that i still like it. My family has offered to pay for a newer model driver for me but i just tell them when they outdrive me with their new ones i will consider it. I have, however, started to notice that the newer ones are a little more forgiving. But i also still notice that when i get a good hit on their driver and then a good one on mine the 975d still goes further. If you are looking for a long drive club that probably wont break your wallet this is the club for you. |
