Model Reviewed: Titleist 907D1 9.5 Aldila VS Proto 65-X

Peformance:
This is the most excited I've been about a club in a long time. Tried the D2 in 9.5 with the V2 and found it spun way too much for my swing. For me the D1 launched lower, stayed flatter and rolled forever. The D2 had a very traditional look and feel; performance-wise it didn't do anything over and above the 905R or the NVG2 Tour that I was playing. The D1 on the other hand has a nice mid-launch with relatively low spin and is extremely forgiving. I can't believe how straight this club is. Sure, the D2 is more workable, but I can't hit fairways at %100 yet so I refuse to use the words workable and driver in the same sentence. I tend to be a bit of a traditionalist but I find the sound and shape pleasing. I'm sure there are straighter drivers on the market but I found the D1 to be far and away the most forgiving on miss-hits (forgiveness=long*straight); the new square drivers I've tried, while straight, punish distance on miss-hits. I never thought I'd say it but I do believe this club provides a significant improvement over the "old" technology. I'm having a lot more fun playing golf since buying this club. It's definitely worth a look if your in the market for a new club.

Quality:
The underside of the club and the hosel extension look a little chinsy to me. From a build quality standpoint this club doesn't look to be on the same planet as the MacGregor NVG2. I haven't had great luck with products made in China so I'm not happy about the club and shaft being made there; we'll see.

Model Reviewed: Titleist D1; 9.5

After seeing the hype of the Triangular shape - I hot-footed it to a Titleist Demo day.

After using my own Rapture I was introduced to the D1; the strange shape intrigued me.....far better visually than the square breed.

The initial stock shafts seem to go very high, but were very forgiving - and after many different combos I ended up the the 9.5 Aldila NVS in stiff.... this combo was at least as long as my Ping Rapture, but more importantly was so much easier to hit.

I also tried the D2, that was perhaps a more powerful head than the D1, but for me was not as straight.

After having decided on the best for me, the club was made in front of me in around 20 minutes..EXCELLENT SERVICE INDEED!

I have now had 10 rounds and i am very very happy with it - ,,,,, long (not as long as the D2) but the mis-hits or off-centre strikes go as if hit in the sweet area.

Overall, this is a club for any level of golfer but if you want to shape the ball, look elsewhere.

If you want a lower. stronger piercing trajectory then go with the D2.

Titleist have come up with a winner with the D1 & D2.
