When I find something I like, it's stays in my bag for a long time. When I look for a new club it takes awhile as well, if it going to be in my bag I want it to be wright. When I started to look for a new driver I'll admit I was leaning toward Titleist, my previous drivers were Titleist. I went to muy local club pro to hit the Titleist 905r,s,and t, Ping G5, Callaway x460, Cleveland hibore, and the Taylor made r7. I was susprised how much I liked the stock reax shaft in the r7. The pro was watching the balls land down the fairway and the Taylor made was 5 to 10 yards longer than anything else. But I still wasn't sold. I went to a another guy who has a launch monitor. The stock reax shaft in stiff flex 65 grams spun the ball at 2900 rpms which is about 500 rpms to much but it was the lowest of all that I hit. I hit a Speeder, Diamina, Fit on, Blue, Blue comp nt, NV, V2, vista pro. So I bought a sock r7 9.5 with the reax shaft. But I pulled out the stock shaft and put in a TP reax rombax. That did the trick. I'm killing the ball right now and hitting more fairways, which I really was looking for. The Tp reax feels awesome and realy stable at impact. It was a process, but this club is a rocket. I love it.

i had been looking forward to this clubs release for several months, and It finally arrived I was anxious to try it out. At first I was dissappointed as I was hitting high fades, even with the weights set to draw. Something was wrong the club had a flaw.
I went to the pro shop sought the Pro and asked him to check the club for flaws. None found. He then said lets check you swing, we found the flaw! After a rather long winter bad habits crept back in my swing mechanics and we were able to make very simple adjustments.
Now this club is very straight and has nice distance and very forgiving on mis-hits. I am confident that the more I work with this new driver the better it will get, always seems to be a "break-in" period with new equipment.

Model Reviewed: R7 425 10.5 Proforce V2 Stiff

As Randy Jackson says.."this club is the bomb!" The Proforce V2 shaft combo really works for me. This club has me hitting from places that I have never been on my home course. I upgraded from a 10.5 ht Stock Stiff to this club. The ht had me hitting the ball too high, even with the weights in the front. With the 425, I have the heavier weights in the back and still no balooning problems. I have really had or tried alomost eveything from Ping / Cobra / Titleist / etc. The 9.5 or 10.5 are both great clubs. I am a real equipment junkie and a golf club must be visually appealing first and foremost. This club is absolutely beautiful. The fact that it is so forgiving is icing on the cake. For my taste, this club is the exact right size. Not too big (like the 460) or too small like the original quad. While the headcover is equally as cool looking, Taylor has to come up with a better design. I feel like I'm wrestling with the club putting the cover on. All in all, minor complaints for the best driver currently available from any vendor. It has easily taken a stroke or 2 off my score, no question. By the way, my swing speed is about 92-96 mph and ball speed at about 152. This driver shaft combo has me launching the ball at about 12 degrees. Average drive about 250-260 land....with an occasional blast equal to Fred Funk. The guys claiming to hit it 300 plus on average are delusional. I used to think that also until I got fitted and came into reality. You will love this club. Pricey, but worth it!

Purchased the R7 (425) with the new Fuj shaft 65(stiff). I'm left handed so I had to buy it before I could find one to demo. To be honest I have always used Titlist drivers. I pefer the YS-6 shaft. The new shaft that they say is so great feels to whippy and my ball flight is way to high. Need to find something with a higher kick point. Does anybody have any suggestions minus the NV-65. But the 425 head seems ok but for 399.00 they could have put or offered a better shaft. I'm 6'2 and 215 and drive the ball normally around 250-260 without much roll. I just hate putting another 100.00 or so into a new shaft. But being left handed is a pain when it comes to demo clubs.

I'm not sure what all the buzz is about this club. I took a demo out to my home course last weekend and had a pretty average round driving. Nothing special in distance or trajectory even after moving the weights around. I didn't have any trouble hitting straight and could work the ball but the distance and feel were lacking.

It might have been the shaft as I was using the stock stiff Fujikura and perhaps with a more premium shaft, the results might be different. Considering the price, I thought at least there might be a little more "pop" to the club. Feel was muted and spongy, even when hitting the ball flush on the sweet spot.

All in all, I guess I was expecting a little more from the driver every one seems to be talking about.

Model Reviewed: Taylormade r7 425 tp

I have the original r7 quad with a Speeder 757 shaft stiff. Just hit a buddy's new 425 tp with 75gram shaft same loft 9.5. The shaft is pretty with the visible carbon fibers showing. Sets up with confidence with the larger head but not grossly large as a 460 head. I'm a 7 handicap and I would agree that some of these people writing these reviews have selective memories. When you talk about average drives, don't just think about the drives down wind and down hill or even the ones you rarely square the face at impact. And admitting that you rarely hit fairways also tell brings out the truth that you don't average 275. I'd like to see someone hit a slice or hook 275. Pro's that hit dead square and straight don't ave. 275. And your handicap is probably not 16. I also hope you are not one of those annoying people that talk a bigger game and can't show it. Sorry just venting after getting paired up with a guy who made an excusefor every poor shot all day saying he never hits bad shots.
Back to the club. Excellent driver. I would have to say the new shaft contributes 70% and the new club head 30% of why I am going to purchase this driver. Length was the same. Trajectory much different. The new 425tp had a lower more controllable trajectory which is a plus. The shaft weights were the same but the new re ax shaft had a great stable feel. The shaft and the slightly open club face also gave me confidence to really go after it which would have resulted in a really strong draw or almost a hook with the old r7. Even though I promissed my wife no more clubs this year I will purchase this club so that I can now hit an average of 375 yds (wait, that selective memory of Kapalua on the 18th hole downhill and downwind)

Let me start of by saying something about all this back and forth criticism. I have seen people shoot in the high 80s and low 90s who can easily hit it 300 yards. Part of the reason they shoot that high is they are long. I play with a guy who does not hit it more than 210 and often trouble is not even in reach for him. I see guys who bomb it that far with no short game at all. If you are a bad bad putter you can be in the 90s and still bomb it. What I think is going on here is we have some guys who are decent players who cannot bomb it and they are taking it personally. I watched two of the Pinnacle long drive guys on PLAYING WITH THE PROS. I would be stunned if either one of them shot less than 85 that day.
In any event I had been playing the 983K and I hit some bombs with that club. I bought the r7 425 without hitting it beforehand. I am not sure I like it. I had the Grafalloy ProLite on the 983 K and wow what a different feel with the r7. I have only played 18 so far but I do not think this club-at least for me- is anywhere close to the 983k in distance. I am going to give it one more chance. I played the club set up for a slight fade. I am going to put it back at where it was when I bought it which I think is a somewhat high draw. I know the club is 45 inches but it seemed short. I compared it to my friends Ping G2 and it was at least a 1/2 inch shorter. I am 6'2" and once you get in your head the club is too short it can play games with your mind. I hit an original r7 ht a couple of years ago and I remember thinking how straight I was hitting it but that I was hitting somewhat short.
GOLF just did a product review. They had a bunch of guys hit a lot of drivers. The r7 was not rated as very long. At $399 make sure you get to hit this club before you buy it.

excellent and very versatile club. i play consistantly in the low 80's but have played in the 70's on numerous occasions (just not enought to consider myself a 70's golfer). I generally hit 285 with control and can push them out past 300 but have no idea where they are going. the great thing about the club is how much you change to ball flight by moving the weights, in this area winds of 30 to 40 mph are more than common, setting up for a neutral low ball flight can sure help keep the ball under the wind, this can sure salvage some decent yardage in the wind while still allowing you to set it up for a normal ball flight when its calm. the only thing i changed was the grip, i prefer a firm av17 winn grip for feedback and tackiness.

I'm a 4 handicap and im 15. I hit the ball farther then most people I play with and on average thats like 280 when Im hitting the ball well. There is no way that you are a 16 handicap hitting the ball that far. Maybe 350 feet come on. Tiger hits 318 on average and hes a big guy. Anyway this driver is great. Its worth the pricetag, streight and long with alot of bounce. The stock shaft is good too dont spring for the TP. If you want to get a better shaft get a Fujikura vista pro. Half the price twice the preformance but i dont think it needs it. Hit em streight

I must take a little offense to the guy who seems to think everyone above a 10 handicap hits 225 yard drives. Anyhow, I'm currently a 16 index and in a golf trip last weekend played my first three rounds of the year. I've always been a long hitter, but I tend to be 'long and wrong' with my driver. I've never put much stock in technology as my irons are a set of 1988 Ping Eye2's and my driver is an '89 Big Bertha. I tend to average around 275 with my drives, but this distance, matched with my sad accuracy has led to lots of OB and lost balls (2 holes over).

After my second round last weekend there was a club fitting on the practice tee, so I thought I would take a look. I spoke with the Pro (who was really great!) and when I discussed my problem he asked me to hit the 10.5 Taylor 425. My first drive hit a hill at the back of the range at 310... DEAD STRAIGHT. So, I proceeded to hit about a dozen or so more. Of those drives, 2 were offline by about 15 to 20 yards, and all but one over 300 yards. When he moved me up to the 9.5 (because the 10.5 gave me a wicked 'rising' flight) I started launching high bolts straight over the hills at the back of the range for 325+.

This drivers not going to give you magical distance. I've always had a huge swing, a big turn, and a long ball... but control was always lacking. I started at 5 but always enjoyed the long hitting aspect. After hitting this club, it took me 3 days to buy one on eBay. I don't have it yet, but I'm hopefull I'll once again experience the fairway. :) This club hit smooth, long, and amazingly straight. I couldn't believe how even when I felt I had mis-hit it (read: big hook, fade) it still stayed quite straight. GREAT CLUB!
