I have never owned a decent driver until now. My previous drivers were all knock-offs that offered too much inconsistency in my drives (or maybe it just me). Actually the 580 increased my consistency dramatically and it put 20 yards on my average drives which are now 270+ with much less effort than I ever had to use with the old drivers. I also tried the BB hawkeye which gave me good consistency, but was still about 10-15 yards shorter than the 580. The only drawback is the stiff shaft is still a bit flimsy. I will likely upgrade at some point. For what I paid this is pretty much heaven for a golfer that has never been a consistent driver - even if you have to pay full retail this is a great club and the best of the bunch that I tried before my purchase.

After demoing a slew of clubs I found this driver fit my swing best. I got the 10.5 with the stock S shaft. I am considering changing it out, but for now it is serving it's purpose well. I tried all of the new drivers, but this one proved the most forgiving for me. I swing around 95-98 mph. The off center hits lost some distance, but not much, and it stayed fairly straight. I found the club is easy to hit a draw with the slightly closed face. However, it didn't make it impossible to hit fades.

By far the most attractive, forgiving driver that I hit! I am a new golfer who has a goal of breaking 80 within a year from starting golf. Baseline score was 105; was able to hit 92 the other day; thanks to the R580. I purchased a Callaway VFT first but was not able to hit with confidence. Looked at the TM R series and decided on the 580 since it was designed to help ball flight - indeed it did!!! The club sets up well and has an advantage over the 540 since the 580 has sight lines (helpes folks line up shots). If you are looking for a driver that will wow you on every hit and miss hitting your driver on short par 4 and par 3s, the R580 is the driver for you!!! Taylor Made has done us yet another service by introducing a driver made for novice and pro like golfers alike.

I've heard alot of complaints about this club on other forums, especially those that cater to component club fans. While you may think this club may not be for you. I love it! I've tried a ton of component as well as OEM drivers, and none match it. The Callaway BBII is the only club that comes close. The club is definately long. And now longer with the Aldila One Mid Launch shaft in it. There is a slight drop off in the ability to work the ball, but that didn't stop Mike Weir from winning the Masters with it. The fact is I have a +2 handicap, Monday Qualified for Buy.com tournaments last year, and had to withdraw from Q School this past fall because of a horrible spider bite. Trust me, all you need out of a driver is one that you can put a good swing on it'll go where you aim with good distance. No driver is going to give you that much more distance, but they can be more forgiving. So quit fooling yourself into thinking you have to work the ball or another club may give you that extra 1 1/2 yards and get the most forgiving driver made. The Taylor Made R580! Oh, and go buy a Sonartec SS-03 fairway wood. I GUARENTEE it's the best fairway wood you will EVER play.

Here's the skinny. I went to Jimbo's Golf in Kansas City to purchase the Great Big Bertha II Driver. I didn't even want to hit the R 580, but the salesperson talked me into it. I hadn't hit either previously, but I was looking for a driver that had a higher trajectory than my Nike Forged 350 (stiff shaft is too stiff. That's what happens when you hit in a cage before you buy.). Jimbo's in KC has range attached, so I got to see ball flight and workability with both clubs. I couldn't have been more impressed with the R 580. The ball flight was beautiful, I could work it both ways and it was LONG! I've always been able to average about 270, (with the exception of my Nike. 200 yards of carry and 50 yards of roll just didn't sit right with me.) but this driver was CARRYING into a net that was at the end of the range 260 yards away. It was slightly downwind that day, but try as I might, I couldn't do the same thing with the Bertha. I walked out with the 580 and a boat load of confidence. I've since played a few rounds with it and I'm even more impressed than I was the day I bought it. Extremely nice control of trajectory is possible by simply setting up differently, and the same can be said for workability. But most of all, I can't believe how hot this club is. I hit 4 300+ yard drives the yesterday (in 6 driving holes on the back nine), and my short ones were 270 to 280. I am an 8 handicap and play with others that are the same. They have all hit and loved the club. Do yourself a favor, and go to a range and swing this club if you're in the market for a new driver. I can't tell you that this club will be perfect for your swing, but it definately is for mine.

Customer Service

No Experience, but this is the 3rd high quality Taylor Made driver I've had in my life. I've never had a problem with any of them.

After hitting a demo R580, I was sold on the forgiveness of the 10.5* RH w/ MAS2-70 stiff combination. The price was too steep, so I'm building a Tour Made 405 w/ a Paragon PV shaft to similar specifications. I'm expecting similar results, but the sting to my wallet will be less than $ 70. So far my longest drive is with a Dynacraft 10* Ti Direct Line head @ 275 cc's, it went 326 yards (one-time, fluke drive). That head for it's vintage is all face, which meant the foregiveness/stability/consistency was highly variable. With the increased volume from 275 to 400, even larger face area/sweet spot. I expect this club to keep me in the game from the tee shot of each hole, after that I hope to be close enough to use a 7 iron or lower to get on the green.

I took this driver out and compared it with the cobra 427 ss and I have say to the cobra come out ahead. On mis hits the taylor made lost about 15 more yards compared to the cobra. And on sweet spot contact it was also out performed by about 10-15 yards by the cobra. When comparing price it is way over priced. So my overall review of this product is a thumbs down

I was hitting the Titelist 975 and found it hard to hit. When I hit it on the sweet spot it performed well. I changed to the 400cc Nike Forged Driver and it was easier to hit but the shaft (stock) did not perform on a consistent basis and I would push the ball to the right. I then tried the Taylor Made 580 with a mid torque and mid kick stock shaft and I love it. I have never hit the ball more consistently and I am driving it more accurately and longer than I ever have. The setup of the club gives you great confidence and the ball really leaves the club face. I have a 10* loft but hit the ball with a normal trajectory. My other drivers were 9* and I hit them highter than the Taylor Made. Once you hit a bucket of balls the size of the head seems normal and has little to no effect on my swing. Poor swings still result in miss hits but that is true with any club. Of all the drivers that I have tried this is by far the most forgiving and the one that has given me the best performance. I think the price is a little much; but if I keep it three years it will be worth the upfront cost. It is a very attractive club and I get frequent favorable comments from people who see the club or hit the club. I strongly recommend that you take a gulp, pay the price and put this driver in your bag. I was shooting between 80 and 86. This driver has help me lover my scores and since I purchased the club I have had three rounds in the seventies (lowest 75).

I'll keep it simple, this club sets up nicely and flush hits fly a long way. Stock shaft seems to work very nicely. Forgiving yet lets you know what you are doing wrong. Best driver I have owned to date. For a monstrously large club, it handles very well. Have had it out on several outings now and performance hasn't waivered. I know many times a new driver performs well the first outing, then heads south. Don't see that happening with the R580.

Customer Service
