I am in my third year of golfing and had been playing cheap generic clubs. I was unhappy with the driver and decided to try a better club. When a saw the r580 xd for sale at a local sporting goods store, I went for it. It has a stock shaft with a regular flex and 10.5 loft. It is a great club, and added at least 10 yards to my drive, straight down the middle. I would recommend this driver to anyone looking to add some yards to their drive. I bought this Taylor Made through ebay for a reasonable price. After playing only Ping equipment since high school, (I am now 31), I was skeptical to try a friends Taylor Made. I played with a Ping G 5 and was pleased with it, but like any other guy I thought why not try my buddy's new club. AWESOME!! This club was truly 10 carry yards more than my Ping and very pleasing to the eye at address. I still think Ping makes the best irons, but this Taylor Made is the driver of choice. Taylormade R580XD 9.5 Stiff
I have been trying to find the "perfect" driver for over a year. Thanks to the R580XD, my search is finally over. Previous drivers include the Ping G5, Taylormade R5 & R510TP, Titleist 905R, & Ben Hogan Big Ben CS3. All were 9.5 with stiff flex shafts. I have played the Ben Hogan CS3 for the last 3 years. It was always consistant but tended to be a higher ball flight and shorter distance than I cared for. I just lived with knowing I could put it in the fairway but not be as long as I should. All of that changed when I saw the R580XD at Edwin Watts this past week for $99.00 brand new! My first "new" driver was the R5 "neutral" bias. I got away from Taylormade over the years and now I am so glad I have their driver back in my bag! I have played two rounds and have added 20+ yards to my drives without sacrificing accuracy. I ball flight is mid/high now instead of the balloon effect I got with the Hogan. I also love the sound of this driver when you hit it in the sweet spot. Now I can spend my time playing golf instead of endlessly searching Ebay for drivers. Customer Service Taylormade customer service is top notch. On two occassions I had an issue with my R5 "neutral" driver and they sent me brand new ones...unbelievable!! On the first issue, the "Neutral" decal fell off the driver. I happened to run across the Taylormade rep. at our local golf store. I showed him what happened and within a few days I had a new driver in my hands. On the second occassion a "glow ball" golf ball dented the face of the driver.....those balls are as hard as a rock...FYI don't used your good clubs to hit these balls!!!!!

Taylor Made 580 XD
I began with a Taylot Made 540 driver which I could hit consistently around 300 yard fairly straight. I thought, wow, I can get the 580 XD which is bigger and supposed to be more forgiving and I should gain 15 -20 yards on my drives. I must say, I was very let down. The 540 has a much bigger sweet spot and is way more comfortable. I can't hit the 580XD staright to save my life. I left the golf course the other day and washed my 540 down really good and told her that I'd never doubt her again. Would I recommend the 580XD? NO!!!!!! |

I love it! Bought on ebay for a good price and put it to work immediately. After getting used to it, i was hitting 270+,consistently, in late August, northern Canada. Can hardly wait until next season. The club is a 9.5 degree, with stock grip and a TM 65 gram, s flex, low torque, firm tip.Shots off the toe still manage 240+ and hosel shots, about 10 yards less with a hook. Those days are behind me now and all my friends are amazed with my new found accuracy.I seriously dropped 5 strokes in a month, from 45+,to,40+.Had to learn new iron game, approach shots a lot closer to green, bought new wedges to accomadate, love this game!Great club would't trade it for the world. After taking up golf this past spring, playing on my school's team, and greatly improving to a 18 handicap, i have finnaly got a name brand driver. I was playing with a junk $30 ram driver with a few dings in it. I could drive the ball in the 220-235yd range. Well with my new R5, im driving 250+ with controlled ball flight. I have only been using it on the range seeing as its freezing and most courses are closed, but its great. and for $100 u cant go wrong. |

This club is great. I am only fourteen and have been playing for about one year. I was hitting a sasquatch with a regular shaft and it was too weak. So an older man I play with gave me this club since it had a stiff shaft and lower loft. Once I started hitting it I started hitting 270-280 copared to 240. It also limited my slice to just a little fade. If you are just starting to pick up golf and have a tight budget this is perfect. |
