I have the 9.5 degree in stiff flex and wasnt very happy at all with it. It was longer than my Ping, but I was all over the place with it. Took it to golfsmith and had a UST proforce XL Stiff shaft put in. The difference is night and day. The stiff tip of this shaft gives me an extremly tight dispersion pattern. The driver is very forgiving, more so than my ping (which is a great driver). In terms of distance Im about 5 yards longer than my ping. Im usually about 265-270 off the Tee. In terms of feel, at first it felt very hollow and tingy. With the new shaft however it feels very solid, reminescient of my old 975D. I loved that feel and now I have it again. OVerall wonderful club. Very forgiving. My only suggestion is to go see someone with a launch monitor so they can you fit you for a proper shaft. The stock shafts arnt crap, they just dont work for everyone.

A fabulous driver, long and accurate--has added 15 to 20 yards additional average distance. Accuracy dispersion is much tighter than my Hawkeye. This driver is capable of producing monster drives compared to other clubs that I have used. The ball flight is high. There is nothing wrong with the standard shaft as mentioned by other reviewers. The standard shaft on my club was manufactured by Fujikura, a highly reputable golf shaft maker.

I picked up a demo at the learning center just for fun and it really was. Long and mostly straight drives with beautiful trajectory. Switching back to my regular TM 200 steel driver that I bought for "accuracy", I found it to be much shorter and less accurate than the R540. I decided to try the 540 on the course before deciding to buy. Well, before I had a chance I poked around ebay and made a bid that won a new R540 for $220 + 15 shipping. My first drives with it were awful, big slices and I realized the shaft and loft were not exactly the same as the demo and I kept it out of my bag for a couple of rounds until I could get with my golf instructor and "figure out" the club. He corrected my back swing angle and I started walloping the ball, long and straight. More hang time than an NFL punter. Bottom line, I've played 3 rounds and hit more fairways than I used to. The ball just flies off the clubface maybe 30 - 40 yards longer than before, and I'm outdriving most of my golf buddies (until they borrow my driver). Some par 5's are now reachable in 2. I'm planning on getting the matching 3 and 7 woods.

Customer Service

Very satisfied. I had a TM sand wedge that had something loose and sent it to TM. They couldn't repair it so they replaced it with a brand new (more expensive) model wedge. The TM van at the driving range at PGA village also repaired my rescue club that needed fixing.

I have tried other drivers the last couple of years, but couldn't find one that I could hit somewhat consistently. I was playing a couple of weeks ago, and tried a TaylorMade 360Ti. I hit it pretty good, with my third drive a laser about 300 down the middle. So with TaylorMade on my mind, I looked at their 300 series, and then read about the 500 series. I saw the new technology in the Drivers and decided on buying a R580 without even hitting it yet. After a few "Get Aquainted" strokes, I started to bomb drives like a madman. It has totally helped revamp my game, to where i'm real excited and confident about my game right now.I highly recommend you go down to the golf store and try one. Great Club!!

I had some reservations about getting one of the R500 series drivers because a number of reviewers had complained about the mushiness of the stock shafts. However, I took a demo to the range and found the standard graphite shaft suits my tempo (which is very slow) and swing speed (about 105). I did notice that overswinging produces a higher-than-desired trajectory. I never have liked the extremely large heads and opted for a compromise in the 540. After the range experience I immediately went back home and began to search ebay for a deal. I bought one for $209, a steal for this club. My first round yesterday with the 540 produced only one mis-hit resulting in any appreciable loss of distance, and that was not severe--perhaps 10-15 yards. The sweet spot on this club is remarkably large. The 540 is also very easy to work right or left. No club is right for everyone, but this is without question the driver best-suited to my swing of any I have ever owned or played. It is far more forgiving than either the Laucher or the 975J. Highly recommended, but always try before you buy.

ok, yes this is a nice driver which when swinging well hits it a long way but its only as good as the golfer! and im here to tell you thats the same with any club. my advice is save some pennies buy a second hand callaway bertha get a pro to fit a suitable shaft and away you go, unless you are like i was and simply have to have the driver els, garcia or tiger uses! but lets face it tiger could smack a £15 donnay driver 300 yards!

Customer Service

reasonable but not on the ping level.

I went to the range this weekend to test this club and the 762's. This club sets up very nice, although the head is massive it is not as massive as what i expected (my current driver isn't even 200 cc's i dont think!) The swingweight isnt to bad either. I was able to hit my nice high draw CONSISTANTLY for once, instead of hitting a hig draw once in 15 drives it was every drive.(a draw is my natural ballflight) The feel is outstanding. I am only 14 years old about 6'2" and pretty skinny, but i was still hitting it JUST SHORT of the 300 yard sign. Not lying! When i was hittig this people eventually started watching me absolutely cream it. I even had some people come up to me and ask me what my handicap was and what club i was hitting. I will tell you right now, if you have an old club then ditch immediately, it took my 5 years before i did, and now i am hitting unbelievable drives, with a demo, too. I demoed it side by side with the Cleveland Launcher and the Lauc=ncher didn't have nearly good enough feel or the ballflight i was looking for. The price however, is a bit concerning for me, espiacally since my parents dont buy me anything that has to do with golf. No clubs or balls. Hopefully i will try to get thiem to buy it for me and that can be my only birthday present. Other than price the Taylor Made R580 is the best driver i have ever demoed or hit, the feel is amazing and so is the ballflight. I will definetely have this in my bag by the end of the month.

My friend ownes a pro shop so I have the luxury to try anything out there. I had stopped by wanting to demo a 540; however, that day he only had the 580 available. I have always played smaller drivers with blades so it is a big step for me to like huge drivers. Now that said I played this driver and was amazed. It has to be the longest driver I have hit and although big I could still work the ball. It had a nice sound not to obnoxiously loud(like the cobra).I have never been a TM fan but with products like these it wont take long. You can bet I will be trying the 510 and 540 soon.

I have always played TM drivers. I had old Burner's, MidSize, Burner-Bubble,320 and now the 540. At first it felt good. Although I was expecting to gain 20 yrds over my 320Ti, it seemed to be more forgiving. I didn't gain much yardage. I usually am about 240-260 but can catch a good one and be about 280+. I hit a slight draw with my 'sweeping' clubs (Driver, 2Wood, 2-4 irons) and my miss with the 320Ti was a big hook. But this club, just as a lot of the reviews say, is relatively straight. I read a review earlier that talked about changing the grip out to a heavier one and changing the swing weight. I do feel that the club is 'head-heavy'. I am going to try a Diamond Dry Winn midsize and see what it does to the feel. The 320Ti just felt so good in my hands and I love the 540 and want to have the same feel. All in all, I really like this driver but I am yet to LOVE it. I don't put much stock in the fact that this club doesn't like to be smacked. I say let loose with it. I'm excited about trying this club with the new grip (swingweight) and let you know how it goes. The ball flight is great and this club is easy to hit, altogether. Let 'er rip!!!

Im L/H and can never find clubs to demo so had to take chance and buy one. I really intended to get the 540 but put in an internet bid for this nearly new 580, 9.5. Glad I did. Came with a proforce gold 65 shaft which I had reservations about being too stiff compared to the stiff in my ping isi, but its perfect. Never thought I would ever part with my Ping which has been a fantastic driver. But this 580 has blown it away. Off centre shots still get away great and finding the big "bald" sweet spot (you hear it and feel it when you do) obliterates the pill!! I go to the range hit a few short irons then selfishly ignore every other club because I just want to nail this thing. I hit my 7 iron about 165yrds. I can tell this thing is carrying 20 past my ping with a lower flight (my ping was 10.5) so come the summer will roll for miles. The 580 with reg shaft I once tried was like a fishing rod.
