I have owned this club for 2 years. It is long and reliable. I installed a YS-6 stiff a year ago and it really is more accurate than the stock shaft. I have hit the new G2 and Titleist for comparision and the HipTi is right there with the big names. It is a excellent head and I understand a new model is available now that Orlimar has new ownership and fresh cash to market. If you find one have fun!

Quick follow-up: Have played 3 rounds with this driver since switching from the Titleist. The hipTi will be in my bag for a long, long time, because the ball fliess off of it for a long, loooong time. I can actually shape my drives a bit with it (something I could never do intentionally). I can play a powerful draw shot with it, and knocked a couple drives around or past the 300 marker...shot a 91, but mostly the fault of the short game...should have shot a mid to high 80. This driver is an amazing value. (I love the look and feel of Titleist drivers, but I am not consistent enough with them).

On our way to the course today, a friend of mine wanted to stop and buy a driver. I pointed him towards the HipTi because I had tried it a few weeks ago myself and really liked it. His swing is a fair bit slower then my own and after trying them he settled on the 9.5* regular flex. We got to the course and teed it up on the par 4 #1. He hit a high slice with it. I hit a pitiful low hook with my 975 (have been doing this since the season started). He tells me ''try mine for a shot''. I make a smoothe swing and drill it 275 down the center. Next driver hole, same deal. I ended up using his driver the rest of the day, crushing the ball straight or with a slight draw (regular shaft probably helped the draw along). I stepped off my best drives along with calculating by the marks...295, 308, 330. I even hit one ball 250 straight down the center off of a thin mis-hit. I was excited playing and am still kind of elated about it. I made great drives with 7 out of the 10 tee shots I took with it. I would make the argument that I was having a really good day with the driver, but I wasn't because I couldn't hit my own worth a damn. I felt so confident with the HipTi I even teed it up to go at a 318 yard par 4 over water...put it in the drink about 20 yards short of the green...stupid, but it was worth trying. The face of this thing is hot. Not only that, but it is forgiving. The shaft is made by Fujikura, although it is a generic new club shaft, but it was ok...stiff would be better for me, I am sure. I actually shot a pretty lousy round, but couldn't wait to tee up with this monster again. If you have a decent swing and are looking for a club that is set up for straight distance this is it. My friend had a great deal of trouble with it, but it was only his second game, and I missed 3 drives trying to kill the ball or trying to do something I am not good enought to do, so you can miss with it if you don't make a good swing. When you connect with it, however, it is like a piledriver. Golftown is selling them off for $128 CD...I would pay much more for what I can do with it.

This club has a harrison 2.5 50g shaft. I am able to work the club if I remember to swing easily... The ball jumps off the face and is much easier to hit than the 340. Purchased on e-bay without hitting the club previously. Club head speed is approx. 105.

Golf has never frustrated me -- I don't play golf for the score, so I don't practice much course management. I play golf for the challenge, so I get my rewards when I am able to put it on the green from 210 yards out. My favorite shot is the drive. There are days when I go to the range and hit a jumbo worth with my eight drivers (see list below). I love intimidating others specially when I whack a 'wall ball'; the net at the back end is at 240, which I can repeatedly hit in flight. My longest drives are achieved with the SMT Nemesis with a 49" Penley ETA shaft, but I am only able to extract the distance when I am at full strength and can manage the length. What this does though, is help me handle the shorter drivers, which then get to feel like 5 woods. Of all the drivers I own the one I bring to play is the Orlimar 340. It swings smoothly, feels sweet, has the right depth to give you confidence, sounds pleasant and is looong. The Orlimar 340 has the best balance. It returns to square almost automatically and is effortlessly kept on plane. The sound and feel is unrivaled, and the ball flight whether high or low always returns a generous distance. One of the fun things I do at the range is to drive 10 balls in 2 minutes -- no time to set up, just whack. This is where the Orlimar 340 excels. With no other driver, even the ERC Fusion, the R7 or the Launcher 460 I routinely borrow, do I get consistently straight and long. The Orlimar 340 is a natural. BTW, the worst of the lot is the Cleveland. Sounds awful and strained.

I have recently been struggling with my driver (cleveland 330)..tried using my father in laws hip ti 420...absolutely fell in love..i thought the 420 would look huge at address, but it definitly adds confidence..initially wanted to upgrade to launcher 460(most pros who are sponsored by cleveland do not use their drivers,(Vijay singh-tailormade), but it did not have the same feel off the club face..they are both loud with good feedback..i ended up buying the orlimar over the launcher, but with an upgraded shaft which made a huge difference..hit aldila nv in both hip ti and 460 launcher (to be consistent)it seemed like i was able to make a smoother transition with aldila compared to stock shaft (dad's club)...distance very good as well..but most importantly, misses were not that bad...we can all hit good shots but it depends on how bad the misses are..did not loose much distance off toe shots..i bought the cobra ss 380 turned me high straight ball into a bad hook..i normally hit ball high with irons so thought 10.5 would be too much..measured 12 on launch monitor, but more boring not ballooning...overall loved the club..i am a sucker for new clubs, promised wife this will be last driver i buy..Orlimar has a great product, but like someone else said, it was the marketing department who messed up...

Model Reviewed: Orlimar Hip Ti 420cc 9.5 Aldila NV 55g stiff shaft

Let me start off by saying I have hit nearly everything that is currently available. The Titleist 983K and 983E. Before that I played the J-VS for over a year. The Taylor Made 510TP. The new Mizuno 001. They are all very nice clubs and probably fit certain players very well. My swing speed is 112-116 mph and is getting smoother/slower with age (42). I was well into the 130's before injuries (rotator cuff, back) and age dropped me to my current speed. The clubs and shafts that previously worked are now too much work to hit. I resisted for as long as I could but finally started looking at bigger heads with lighter shafts with lower kick points. Many combinations caused the ball to baloon and feel too soft at the tip. I recently tried my current setup and couldn't believe the results. The Orlimar 420cc Hip Ti with the Aldila NV 55 stiff is almost indescribable. I have always been long but it was more a result of size and strength than equipment. My current setup requires a fraction of my effort and the results are beyond anything I have ever seen. The slightly off center hits are flying 270-280. I could go on and on about how enjoyable this club is to hit but you really need to give it a try yourself. Evidence of how popular this club is becoming amongst low handicappers is how difficult they are to find and how long they last when they are in stock. I have never been an Orlimar fan but they sure have found a winner with this combination.

Model Reviewed: Orlimar HipTi with factory graphite in stiff flex

I purchased this club used, but it was in very good condition. It had the factory stiff flex shaft. I only got to use it at the range one time and probably hit 50 balls before the shaft broke right above the hosel. The club felt very good in the few shots I hit. I am a bad golfer due to a lack of playing, but I do not have trouble getting the ball airborn with a driver and have a very high swing speed. I do not top drives nor do I hit the ground with the club during the swing. That being said I would have to agree with others that say the clubhead appears to be very good, but the shaft is junk. I will invest in a good shaft, probably steel, and I think I will have an excellent club.

(purchase price is in Australian dollars) Can't give this club enough praise. Had clubmaker install a UST Proforce CR S-flex shaft as I'd heard standard Orlimar S-flex shaft was a bit too whippy. When hit in the middle the ball just flies. I'm left standing on the tee waiting and waiting (and waiting!) for it to land. Was also pleasantly surprised by the distance achieved with mis-hits and the forgiveness. I'm quite happy to accept that bad drives are due to my swing faults and not the club. I'm a bit of a gorilla but the increased distance I'm achieving with the Orlimar still astounds me. To give you an idea of the distance I'm getting, I have driven the green a few times on a slightly downhill 300 metre (330 yard) Par 4 and had my second shot within reach of the green on a 504 metre (560 yard) Par 5 on numerous occasions. On contact there's no solid "feeling" of hitting the ball, which did take a little getting used to. But once I became accustomed to that ~chink~ sound, it meant I'd just launched another one.

Puchased this club almost new on ebay, and have used it several times. I thought that the Taylor Made 200 Steel was a good club, but this one is better. I have 3 different Orlimar fairway woods and like the weighting and feel of all of them, so I bought this club to see if I would like it, and I do. With a good tempo swing speed this club goes nice and staight, and the weighing somehow feels more substantial than other drivers that I have tried and helps with my swing tempo.
