Cleveland Launcher Ti 460 Drivers

Cleveland Launcher Ti 460 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Launcher Ti460 Driver uses Thin Crown Technology to make it even longer and straighter than the original Launcher 460. By adding new Thin Crown Technology to the Launcher 460 driver, Cleveland Golf designers have managed to take an already successful driver and make it even longer and straighter. The key to this driver’s renewed success is in the fact that 15% of the weight has been removed from the top crown of the clubhead and redistributed into lower and deeper locations around its perimeter.

This club sets up very nicely to the ball. It has a classic look that appeals to my eyes. It looks large (460cc), but not overly huge.
The shaft is the Aldila NV 65 X Flex. I was debating on getting the S or the X prior to purchasing, but was looking for a tighter shot dispersion and went with the X. It is a very light shaft and nice looking (bright green). I do think the stiffer shaft helps with accuracy, but it does slightly reduce distance.
I feel this is a very solid overall club. When hit solid it has a nice boring trajectory (8.5*) and has good distance. If I needed more distance I would choose the softer shaft. Where I really like this club is on slight misses. When I hit it thin, or on the heel the ball still travels on the same flight path with the exception of being about 10-15 yards shorter than average drives. The club does look slightly closed to me, and I do aim slightly more to the right. Overall I am very pleased with this driver. I think it is an excellent value. It has everything as far as technology is concerned. Max C.O.R. largest legal head size and a high performance graphite shaft. I would recommend this club to most people with the exception of a player that has a overemphasized draw.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher Ti460 11.5* and A-flex

It took 3-4 rounds to get used to, but I am beginning to love this driver. Earlier this summer, I hit a few drives with my father-in-law's new 2005 Launcher driver and I was so impressed that I ordered the 2006 model.

During my first two rounds with it, I hit it poorly and inconsistently. Later I learned that with the 2006 model, Cleveland subsituted a lower spin/trajectory shaft and made the club noticeably more upright. (Does Cleveland now think that most of their customers are 6'-5" tall with short little arms?)

But then I began making a slower and lower takeaway and started swinging more deliberately and suddenly I began to hit better than the Cobra SS350 this driver replaced.

I am continuing to hit very straight and now the distance is starting to come around. A typical drive for me is 205-210 yards and today I hit one 240 yards and another one was about 225. All this on a cool day with heavy air. Also, I've noticed that the club's gear-effect works very well on hits towards the toe. What's more, for me this club did not exhibit the draw/hook bias that some previous reviewers mentioned. (And my normal shot shape with all of my clubs is a slight draw.)

What impresses me more is the stock Fujikura 55g A-flex shaft. Normally after purchasing a new driver or fairway wood, it takes me just a round or two to realize that I need to upgrade the graphite shaft to get a shaft that matches my game and therefore, maximizes performance. At this point, I do not think I'll need to reshaft the Launcher. I'll happily keep my $100 and find something else to spend it on.

Customer Service

I called Cleveland Golf with a question and a comment and was very dissatisfied with the responses to both.

My shaft had 3 very small chips in the paint (too small to return the club) and I asked if covering them with clear nail polish would seal them and protect them from further chipping. The repr. told me that putting anything on the shaft would cause deterioration and that Cleveland would not be responsible. I later called a clubuilder I know who said that the clear nail polish would work perfectly. (It did!)

My club was shipped directly from the Cleveland factory and I reported that one end of the box was partially crushed. Whoever packed the box did not take 5 extra seconds to fold out the protective tabs inside the box that provide added crushing resistance. First, I don't think the representative had a clue what I was talking about and, second, she acted as if the comment wasn't worthwhile enough to forward on to anyone in manufacturing or shipping.

It's good thing that Cleveland Golf makes great golf clubs as I don't think their customer service adds any value to the customer whatsoever - at least not in my experience with them.

I have always had the slice where I would have to face 1/4 turn to have a chance at the fairway. Lately I have been playing some tougher mountain courses where hitting straight is a must. I purchased this driver after reading countless testimonials and pro tips saying this club is more forgiving and hits long. I would have never believed that just a club could change an outcome without changing my swing. In the first three rounds I've played I have only missed a handfull of fairways. Any that I have missed to the right have been fades and have just been off the fairway. I have also missed to the left because I still find it hard to aim straight and believe I might hit the fairway. And did I mention that I have probably gained 20-30 yards partly because the slice roll is gone. Golf is now fun again and am looking forward to next season and my new found confidence.

This is a, really really superb club. I had played well with my old Calloway for years and wanted to make the jump to a big-headed 460cc driver, so I did extensive (online, magazine and store!) research before making a buy- 2 months on I'm still delighted to have picked the Cleveland over Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade and Calloway models.

The clubhead sits very neatly on the ground, its classic, powerful design inspiring confidence at address. I don't know why some people have said the face has a draw bias, it definitely doesn't- my maxfli revolution (black) irons have no offset at all and this driver is perfectly neutral too. When you find the (massive) sweetspot, the sound is a truly satisfying deep thwack- swing gently and it bombs the ball absolutely miles. I'm not hugely powerful myself, but 270-300 drives have become regular with this driver. Delighted to have it in the bag, fully expecting to drop another two shots in the next few months! Fantastic club- give it serious thought if you're thinking of a new driver.

Model Reviewed: 460 TI 10.5 Launcher R shaft

First a little about myself. I've been golfing for 6 years. My best score this year is a couple of 77s - on my bad days I'll creep into the low 90's (not that often though). Slope at my home course is 128. I (unfortunatally) have a low launch and high spin with my driver (yep, that's the exact opposite to what you want to have - I was checked on a vector launch monitor). My drives at sea level carry about 210-220 and roll to about 230-240. My swing speed is 95 on average (up to 105 if I'm in the groove), and my ball speed is mid 130s, and into the 140s on occations). So, onto the Cleveland Launcher 460 ti review:

Pros:
- Nice trajectory: as stated above, I tend to hit a low ball; however, this driver (with the R flex stock shaft) kicks the ball up to about an 10-11 degree launch. Still high spin for me though - I'm in the 4000+ range. My distance is about the same as everything else, maybe 240/250 total. Carry seems a little better with this than most I've tried.
- Nice set up: the face isn't noticably closed (I HATE drivers that set up closed - and I'll hook them all over the place).
- Awesome sound: when you catch it right you will be rewarded with a nice trampoline sound (I love it).
- Face feels great: doesn't feel dead like a Cobra, or flat like a KZG Gemini.
- The shaft is light (55grms), I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it feels fine.

Cons:
- I still can't drive 350 yards. No magic club exists - not that I've found anyways (I'll keep searching though).

I got my club new for $219.99 CDN at SportMart. You can get them used for much less on e-bay.

Awesome Driver! Tougher to work the ball with the clubhead being so big but extra distance makes up for it. Very intimidating to other players when you pull this baby out of your bag and tee it up on the first hole.

Have played the Taylor Made R5 Dual D for two years and absolutely loved it. 240-250 in the short stuff 10-12 times a round. Just happened to try my buddies Cleveland this saturday AFTER playing 18 and could not believe the distance i picked up over the R5. For me it was 25-30 yards longer than the Taylor Made, with a nice little draw bias. Decided to play another 9 with a demo 10.5 degree and 3 wood replacing my R5 and R580XD 3 wood. Shot a 37 and bought them both. Played Sunday and killed the driver all day long. 25-30 yards longer than my R5 with Grafalloy Blue shaft. Wanna buy an R5?

When it says thin crown it means thin, already dented it trying the old happy gilmore at the range. Its still a really good driver though i hit farther than i had with my old driver Cleveland 330cc. and looks cool as well as the price is great.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher Ti 460 - Aldilla Green Shaft 65 Stiff

Ive used only 4 drivers through my 9 years of playing golf, and by far, this is the best in terms of value and performance. Maybe it is because of the technology being pushed to the limit, but this driver is an amazing find. Of course market leaders Taylormade and Callaway will rule the driver sales, but Cleveland will catch up with them soon enough as long as they continue to produce quality clubs like these.

First of all, what i liked is the look. It is classic, it sets up square to the target, and the head does not look "bulgy" compared to its other 460cc siblings. This translates to confidence for me, which is very important.

I can hit it 255-270 yards on the fly, as it seems to have a higher launch angle than what im used to (even though i got the 8.5 deg model). This club is not overly long, but it is very very easy to hit and very forgiving as off center hits still tend to fly straight and will lose about 10-15 yards only of carry.

The most important part of my purchase is my choice of the aldilla NV green shaft: it is by far the best shaft that i have come across. I used to have an extra stiff shaft, because i dont really like my shafts wippy, but this is just a stiff and i don't feel any wip at all, it is a very solid, technologically advanced shaft. I know where my extra $30 went.

Lastly, the sound.. it retained the classic titanium sound that a lot of golfers are accustomed to. That is very important to me as well.

All in all, i have a very high ROI on this club. I recommend you try it at your nearest driving range or a round or 2. You will be utterly pleased.
