Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 460 driver

I demo'd this driver a few weeks ago after becoming disenchanted with my Taylor Made 580 that I'd had reshafted with a reg flex Grafalloy Blue. I never - and I mean NEVER - have bought a club after hitting it once....until I hit the Cleveland 460. I have a 95 mph swing, average drive 235-240, slight fade, medium trajectory. Had been becoming increasingly inconsistent with my TaylorMade. First ball I hit at the range with the Cleveland actually shocked me...and I don't shock easily. High, very penetrating ball flight, with actually a slight draw. I hit the 9.5 degree with reg flex. Kept doing it one ball after the other with the Launcher. Would alternate with my TaylorMade and it was definitely the club. So I bought it. Have been on the course 3 times with it and couldn't be happier. The club must have a slight draw bias because I am actually hitting consistent slight draws or dead straight shots where I have ALWAYS faded the ball. In fact that's the only negative I have - I'm actually having trouble fading it on call. Never thought I'd be honestly able to say that. Love this club. Ball really jumps off the clubface and the club does all the work. No need to horse it.

WOW! Just switched from the Taylore Made 360 9.5 w/Harrison shaft. I was looking for a higher launch with more carry. The reviews on this site and www.rankmark.com influenced my decision since I wasn't able to hit the club prior to buying due to being left handed. I bought it off of ebay. The first time I hit it on the range I just stopped and watched it in awe because the flight was so different. The ball just exploded up off the club with a pro flight. The club does have a very loud sound at impact, like a hammer hitting an anvel. Watch any of the tour players driver flight anymore, they launch it way up in the air 20-30 yards above the tree line. The tour players don't care about roll anymore, the modern ball is designed for maximum carry which puts a premium on getting a driver with a high launch angle. As an example, Vijay Singh is playing a 10.5 degree driver right now. I researched this club and the stock fujikura shaft has a low kick point that encourages a higher flight. The club functions as billed. I have always hit my drivers lower than I'd like, this club is the first that I'm finally getting the flight I always wanted. I was in disbelief watching the first 10 balls I hit with it fly down the range. The ball flew easily 20 yards higher than my previous driver and much straighter. Bottom line, this driver is infinitely easier to hit that the Taylore Made 360. Most players I see play with too little loft and with shafts that don't have a low enough kick point. As a result, they hit these low shots that curve a lot. This club is designed to correct both of those issues. I am by no means a straight hitter. I am hitting the straightest ball I've ever hit with this club. Amazing technology. I strongly encourage people to go for the higher loft and avoid shafts with high kick points, most amateurs would be well served by getting the ball up in the air with maximum carry.

This club has helped my consistency off the tee immensely. It's the club but it's also the shaft. I've tried it with Cleveland's gold regular, stiff, x-stiff but found it was hard to control and get adequate distance. Demo'd the Aldila NV and the Grafalloy Blue Reg. and found the Grafalloy to be the one that gave me the most control and distance. After looking at the specs, the Grafalloy is made where the tip has less torque and is stiff enough to square the head nicely at impact. I used to use the Taylor Made 360 driver which was adequate but was always hard to control at times. With this club, I feel I can get the ball in the fairway about 80% of the time. Because of the large head, it is a little harder to work the ball but with some adjustments, I was able to get a decent draw and well as a high fade. Overall, the club does launch the ball at a slightly higher trajectory so be sure to have your launch angle tested somehow (even the simulators do a good job at giving launch angles). Thanks for reading.

Great Club! Everyone has been saying it...if you're in the market for a new driver, give this one a try. I had a Taylor Made 360 XD before the Launcher 460. The Cleveland is a more controllable club for me. The Taylor Made was so light, it was hard to feel where the club was in relation to my swing. The Cleveland has a bit more weight to the head and yes it hits it long. It is as long as anything out there. When I miss, it will still be over 230 in the middle of the fairway. Gotta love that. Avarage drive is around 250 to 260. Longest being 275 yards. Maybe 5 to 10 yards longer than the Taylor Made. Give it a try, you cannot go wrong.

I have been using this club for approximately three months now and I could not be happier with it. The club sets up nice and is soooooo forgiving with the large head. Even mis hits don't seem to lose to much distance. It took me a little while to get used to the distance increase over my old driver. When I catch it right I will usually hit the ball between 280 to 300 yards.

I've always look for a new driver every few years, to see what's out there.I've had Ping TiSi, then switch to Taylormade R580,but did'nt care for oversize so traded in for smaller head R510 with nv 65 stiff shaft. I consider myself above average in length off tee but bit erratic.Taylormade was doing OK for me in length ,but trouble controling it on consistant bases. I've tend to go for hype just like everybody else,so I bought a Titleist 983K on Ebay for about $265,which I thought was a steal. It's good driver and was hitting it bit farther than my TM and controling it better. Well one sunday in my regular game my cart partner had to rush in and take care a little business in the restroom. He took off so fast after putting out, that he drove off with my driver. Having these old hags behind us pushing our group we had to go ahead and hit our drives on next hole, options I was left with was Wilson Deep red and Cleveland Launcher. Not knowing anything about Cleveland driver I decided to try it on our par 5 hole. Bang!! it just jumped out of club face and went STRAIGHT down the middle. I was very impress from that point on,needless to say after my cart partner returned with my clubs I continue to hit Cleveland for rest of the round and found every fairway, which is very rare for me.After the round I had my club pro order me one with NV 65 stiff shaft and rest is history along with my Titleist 983K. I don't see how anybody can argue that this club is not STRAIGHT and LONG! Forget the fact that this club is hard to shape? Give me STRAIGHT ball everytime. Try it with open mind and you will be glad you did.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 460 Aldila NV 65 stiff

This club was instant distance the first time I hit it. It had 15 to 20 yards on the Titleist 983k and Callaway steelhead III I had been hitting. There is no swing adjustment with this club. A pro (a good friend of mine) gave me one to play around with for the week, so I had it on the course before the range. Two swings later I clocked one 275 yds, about 20 yds farther than my average drive. By the ninth hole I was hitting through doglegs I didn't know I could reach. It's going to feel good to make that adjustment and I haven't even got to practice with the club yet. If you crack it in the sweetspot expect huge drives. I was getting 255 to 260 with mis-hits. At $300 this club is worth every penny. My swing speed runs in the 105 range, maybe a little more. The Aldila NV 65 stiff shaft feels great. It keeps the club head undercontrol.

I'm speechless.....This club has changed me from an average length driver to a big hitter. I could smack my old club (a Big Bertha Titanium Warbird), about 250 to 260 at the most. On average 230. With this club my mis-hits still go 230 to 250. When I hit this sucker clean it just never seems to come down! 260 to 280. I'd say on average about 270. Easy to hit straight too. I can draw the ball if I need to or put a fade on it fairly easy (although I'm not good enough to control it consistently). But who cares about carving shots when I can hit it straight and 270. I bought the 9.5 degree regular stock shaft. My swing speed is about 90 to 95 mph. I was able to try this club out for 3 days before buying it and I just had to have it in my bag. All my golfing buddies want to try it out and are amazed with this club. I don't think I'll ever need another driver. Also, priced very reasonable at $300.

Customer Service

Excellent. I bought this at Austads (golf store in the midwest). They let me try out a demo club for 3 days before buying it.

I've owned the 460 for about a month and I absolutely love it. I demoed it numerous times to make sure that it was he right club bfore I purchased it and it continually impressed me!. I liked it so much that I purchased the new Launcher Titanium 15 and 19 degree fairway woods shortly afterward because they compliment this driver tremendously well. With this combination (all are regular flex stock Fujikura shafts), I'm reaching long Par 5's in two far more regularly and with tremendous accuracy as well. I've also played with stiff shafts all my life until I realized at this demo day that I'm actually better suited to a regular flex shaft. This surprized me because the stock Fujikura shafts seemed very whippy compared to what I was used to, but it was exactly what the doctor ordered. I'll keep things short and recommend both the driver and fairway woods because they work so well in unison. I also own the Cleveland TA7 irons and 900 series forged wedges to round out my "Team Cleveland" line up. In summary, the 460 delivers excellent overall performance with forgiveness and distance in spades. I highly recommend it and with the strong supporting cast of my other Cleveland clubs, golf will be a lot more fun this summer!. Well done Cleveland from a VERY happy customer!!!!

Great club head! Incredibly light. Co-designed Fuji shaft needs to be replaced for higher swing speeds >100mph (my opinion). Overall I am very happy with this driver. I reshafted with a Grafalloy Blue stiff beacuse the stock Fuji wasn't stiff enough and I like the low tourque on the Grafalloy Blue, it seems to control the giant club head better. I have played about a dozen rounds with it in my bag and I can certainly say that I am hitting it longer and straighter than ever before. Average drive is now around 280-300yards. Trajectory is perfect and it gets decent roll. I was afraid that the large head would take some getting used to or I would have to modify my swing a little, but neither was the case. My standard swing worked the first time and every time since, no learning curve. Very forgiving, I can still get 260-270 yards with a fade. The only drawback due to the Giant head, I have trouble shaping shots like I want. But I am ok with that beacuse at least I can hit it straight 8 out of 10 times (those other 2 times are usually due to a breakdown in swing mechanics). Love the big bang sound, sort of makes you feel "extra powerful" on the tee box. Best of all it has all the performance qualities of other top drivers on the market at $100 cheaper. I think Cleveland is on to something here
