Model Reviewed: callaway x460 tour 9.5 ys-6

Being a lefty golfer, I never thought that I could get fitted properly. Well, I finally did with the Callaway Golf Center in Las Vegas, NV. I would rather buy a driver $250 plus rather than get burned $1000 gambling. But thats another story in itself. I got fitted to the callaway X460 Tour with the stiff ys-6. I have been playing this driver since July. But the reason for it was because I am tryin to make sure that I dont have doubts about the shaft that fits the swing. Well.... I did get the shaft thats good for my swing on a smooth standard swing tempo. But the result ended up with was a high, straight shot. But I had zero roll and going after the ball would be a bad idea. That was what I was fitted for.
If you want a driver that will cator to a smooth swing, then you cant go wrong with this driver and ys-6 shaft combo. The shaft gives you the feedback while the x460 Tour provides the forgivness and distance.
But now I have been playin with the 8.5 905r with the V2 76x shaft. I get more roll and mid ball fight. I will use the 905r for now since I am getting more distance. But the X460 is a great driver to give you feedback in order for you to stay witin your means and develop a smooth swing. So with that, Im able get get that feedback to create the discipline needed to attack the 905r with the more agressive shaft. Suprisingly this approach works.
You may question the huge differences in the jump form a DG ys-6 to a V2 76x. But its the swing that helped me mold to hit the ball straight with the X460. That same swing characteristics just gave me a more roll and a lower penetrating ball flight with a different driver all together. Just think about that...... ;)

Customer Service

Solid shipping. Callaway Golf Center is very sophisticated in regards to fitting software. Upcharge for the ys-6 is not cool. Other brands offer it for free.

I normally shoot in the 80s to 90s. Handicap about 17 to 18. Plays about once weekly. Lefty. There is NO perfect driver so far in the Market. This Club is as good as one can get asthetically. Very classic in Shape. The feel is optimal. The Swing weight of D3 is about right for an average bloke with a swing speed of 85mph and above. Set up is great. Head actually looks smaller than some 460cc out there. It's accurate, workable and Forgiving. Trialled the FTi (Draw) with the X460 side to side, found the FTi probably produces a slightly more consistent flight BUT may have less workability. In terms of accuracy and performance the FTi is probably 5+ (for me) but too way too pricely now(even on ebay). For now the X460 is arguably one of the best Branded OEMs to date (considering it's already reduced price and brand). Certainly Best Bang for its Buck. In short, I love this club, may only consider the FTi if its price drops appreciably......By then, another newer and better club may materialise !

I purchased the X460 on eBay for $99. It's a stiff flex 10.5 degree loft. It arrived yesterday and I immediately took it out for an 18 hole test drive. It is simply amazing. I did not pull or slice a single tee shot. Even my miss hits went straight. I had trouble on the front nine getting the ball in the air. Most of my tee shots were either topped or low line drives.

On the back nine I decided to tee the ball differently. Instead of the bottom of the ball at the top of the club, I teed it about 1/3 inch higher. The results: TING ... first drive went 273 uphill. Second drive ... TING ... 245. Third drive ... TING ... 265. Fourth ... TING ... 276. Fifth ... TING ... 251. Unbelievable! I'm a beginner and 49 years old, but I was hitting my drives like I was twenty years younger and knew what I was doing.

My previous driver was a Jack Nicklaus Signature Series 410cc regular flex that I hit about 220 (if I really cranked one it went 240). This Callaway club has added 30-40 yards to my drives. Had I figured out the tee height problem sooner I would have bettered my best round by a wide margin.

I would highly recommend this club to anyone of any ability.

Callaway X460. I bought this driver yesterday and it is amazing... I hit it an extra 30 metres... I hit it so straight as well. Its got a great feel as well. The only thing I don't like is the sound, but apart from that its fine. Today I went in the comp and i drove the ball 290 metres!!! my best drive ever!

Customer Service

The Pro just thought I should try this driver, because I was trying out the Big Bertha 460 but this was cheaper and I hit it better.

Model Reviewed: X460 9 degree stiff

I'm an admitted equipment junkie, hence have tried a lot of different drivers. The latest driver in my bag was a Cleveland Launcher 460, 8.5 degree. I was quite happy with it's length and forgiveness but when I had an opportunity to purchase an almost brand new X460 off Ebay for $110 CDN, I couldn't resist.

My swing speed is mid 90's so am right between a regular and stiff shaft. I prefer a slightly stiffer shaft for a lower trajectory and more control. The Cleveland driver had a regular with a high kick point which reacted similar to a stiff shaft. The X460 stiff shaft has a similar feel, not too stiff for my swing speed. I am easily able to hit either a low boring shot or a higher shot by adjusting the tee height.

This club is very forgiving and even if you put a bad swing on it, it goes a long way without too much extra sidespin. On the first hole of my home course, there is a line of trees cutting into the right fairway. With my previous drivers, if I didn't put a good swing on it I would end up in the trees. The last couple times I have played the course (and put a bad swing on the X460 due to not warming up) I have hit similar feeling shots as the old drivers and expected to find the ball in the trees. Surprisingly I have found the ball 20 yards over the trees, so in my mind this club is hitting longer on mis-hits than my previous drivers.

The clubface seems a little more closed than normal, but unless you normally hit a draw it shouldn't be problem. For those hitting a draw, the Tour version with less offset might be a better choice.

The biggest difference from any of the recent drivers I have played, is that this club feels much more solid on contact, even on mis-hits. This solid feel gives a lot of confidence in the club. The sound is like a pop can, but no big deal.

The X460's are quickly coming down in price and, for me anyhow, it is just as good as the newer $400 drivers. Overall, very happy with this driver, and will be putting the Launcher up for sale.

Customer Service

Even though I have had a couple different models of Callaway irons for the last 8 years, I have never had to use customer service. This is my first Callaway driver so we'll see how it goes.

First I have to say I love this club. Other drivers I have used lately have been going too high with too much backspin Even balls that seem crushed would fall softly with little or no roll. This club--with its high kick- point shaft--eliminates this problem. The ball takes off on that beautiful high line drive trajectory and just seems to go forever. Then it lands and actually runs. Yahoo! One other factor that may help here is the dispersion of weight in the head. I am assumming that it is not as far back as a lot of the competition. Hence I have hit some shots that would have come back to the fairway with other drivers but just rocket on into the woods with this one. I don't care. It's worth it just to watch the ball rise and your opponent's face sink as you leave the tee box even as he mumbles something about "nice shot."
One last thing I have noticed with the tour model is you must stay back and stay connected or you will slice wickedly!

this driver is long. first i need to say this. it takes a lot to make me switch drivers. I used to play the titleist 975d. thats almost 10 years old. every driver i've tried since then hasn't really impressed me. sure i would gain about 10 yards maybe, but i already hit the ball well over 300 yards. the biggest difference was the consistency with this club. i'm just as consistent with this club as i am with my 975d. difference is the x460 has a higher boring trajectory and when the ball leaves the face it's very hot, i've gained about 30 yards with this club. now i will not lie i do hit in the 80s, but that is only because i don't have the time or money really to devote my time to golf to score better. that said i have placed in local long drive contests before. nothing big. in fact the last time i hit it about 340 with my titleist and the winner hit it near 410 or longer with a 51' driver and a ping g5 head. i'm still trying to figure out how they can hit a driver that long and straight.but that's not my game. i usually hit it near 310 for consistency not power. with the x460 that 310 yard swing goes 330-340 and in the fairway. the x460 tour is higher, faster, longer. oh and for only $199 its a great value

Won this driver in a closest to the pin competition. Took it out to the driving range, and first 5 hits were in left field. Not sure this driver truly sits square, but it could just be me! Adjusted, for the driver and started him hitting 'em straight, had to open up the face a little and swing softer than normal. I was hitting some of the longest drives I've hit, but was inconsistent. Oh, and this thing is LOUD! Had folks asking me what I was hitting. Finally, took it out to the course, and was constantly afraid of going left. Ball tends to fly higher for me, than my R5 Type N. I will say it is longer, but not as consistent as the Taylormade.

I own this driver with standard shaft and 11 degrees loft. This driver is a very loud one, and I tend to like those kind of drivers. This is no exception. The sole of the club is designed to set up square to the target, and it does just that. The sound at impact may be too loud for some; I think it is perfect, though. The size at address is a nice, confidence booster. Overall, this is a great driver.
