Callaway FT-5 Drivers

Callaway FT-5 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The new FT-5 and FT-5 Tour Drivers are the latest evolution in clubhead design utilizing our revolutionary Fusion® Technology. A massive 50 grams of discretionary weight has been created using a Carbon Fiber Body — creating the OptiFit™ Weighting System that produces three center of gravity configurations: Draw, Neutral and Fade, enabling golfers to choose a combination to best suit their individual game. The larger, more robust CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit, as defined by the USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness — even on miss-hits. The FT-5 Tour Driver has a slightly open face for a look preferred by more accomplished players. The end result is exceptional distance, performance, accuracy and confidence.

Fusion Technology
Proprietary Fusion Technology creates an unprecedented 50 grams of discretionary weight which is strategically positioned for a high Moment of Inertia and precise lateral location of the center of gravity. This provides exceptional stability on off-center hits, while enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. The 25-gram weight located at the rear of the driver lowers the CG for optimal trajectory.

OptiFit Weighting System
Enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them three CG locations to choose from in most lofts: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw.

CT/VFT Titanium Cup Face
Modified version of VFT® Technology in which face thicknesses are designed specifically to maximize performance under the new USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in a larger, more robust face for increased ball speed on shots hit all over the face.

460cc head design
A 460cc head volume is incorporated with a longer, wider and hotter face for more confidence at address, a higher MOI and increased ball speed for longer, straighter drives.

Carbon Composite Body
The material used to make the body is significantly lighter than titanium, allowing Callaway Golf engineers to move 50 grams of discretionary weight where it is needed most, resulting in better stability and distance.

Well...I bought myself one of these, played with it for a couple of weeks and them the head cracked. Went overseas (with the replacement the shop gve me)...took it to a driving range for a few week...BANG....cracked again. Maybe the carbon mix is not ideal for big hitters, but the club does have a good feel. Shame

Long story short, the head cracked on me after 2.5 weeks. When I took it back to Edwin Watts, they were extremely accomodating. I ended up getting a full refund, bought a brand new closeout Tour Edge Bazooka Geomax for $50 and I am hitting the ball better than the Callaway. I never did get the feel with the FT-5 that I have with my current driver nor the feel I had with the FT-i.

Customer Service

Edwin Watts was fantastic. When they say Callaway has great customer service, I believe them without having to personally contact them.

Model Reviewed: FT-5 Tour w/Diamana Blueboard 73

I have been playing golf on a serious level for about a year now. While I now personally believe that iron play is more important than driving, I still have a love for hitting the ball really far and straight down the fairway.

I've read some of the other reviews and they all seem to say the same thing in one way or another. Go get fitted. Find the right shaft. Don't just think about length and flex. Think about tip stiffness, bendpoint, high/low spin characteristics, etc.

My driver has a stiff Diamana shaft. I had an FT-5 Tour with the stock Fujikura E360 shaft. The E360 has a .350 tip and seemed to be halfway between an S and X shaft. I had an FT-5 Tour fitted with a Diamana Blueboard 73 gram (.335) and it's been a complete contrast from the initial stock driver. Better feel throughout the backswing and all the way to impact. I know what part of the clubface that I made contact with the ball. Still gives me the moderate ballflight that I need (balloon-er). I get great distance out of my driver. About 275 yards to the fairway. Even more if I swing a bit more wildly.

If you find the right loft and shaft combination, just about any decent driver can be made to fit your swing profile.

Let me just start this review by saying I have never been a Callaway Guy .. I went to my local Pro and he had a few hours to kill so we pulled 4 Drivers to test. All big name company's and all made claims that they were super long easy to hit ect... you know the drill. After a good warm up we tested all the models and I was very very surprised that the Callaway FT-5 was by a good margin the best in all areas. A few words that could used to describe this driver , Cannon , Long Easy did I mention Long. My current Driver is a Taylormade 9.5 Stiff TP-460 (very good) driver NOTE: The Callaway driver was 10-12-Yards longer every time. And we both concurred after this test that we would now pull the drivers were using and replace them with the Winner Of our Test the Callaway FT-5.

This club is amazing. today is the first day i played with it. all i can say is straight, straight and straight. added 20-30 yards to my drive. my previous driver was an old cobra 427 10.5*. my only regret is not buying this club earlier. It has made the game more enjoyable, i hit every fairway today, beat the everyone in my group. took their money which covered green fees and then some. can't wait to play again.

i've had the cobra 427, r7 quad. the r7 draw, the precept driver. nothing, nothing compares to the ft-5. This club fits me perfect. if i knew it was this good. i would have bought it when it first came out. and also would be willing to pay twice as much.

Bought this at Golf show for $250...demo club...9 degree with stock fujikura 150 stiff shaft...much nicer driver than my old ERC fusion! I cranked a couple 300yd drives during my first round Saturday! I still duck hooked it a couple times but my fault...Hit a very nice high fade with it too though so its still workable...I intentionally hit fades and draws with it was well to see what I could do...I also hit it stright just fine too!! hit the same model on a monitor and was consistently swinging 110mph and hitting it 290+ so definitely a good driver for me!

Not the club for me, I love Callaway clubs and was looking forward to ripping my new Callaway, FT-5 (stiff shaft) but oh dear what a disappointment!, not long ,too loud and no feel, I’ve gone to superquad and hitting it miles, so much more easier to hit...Keep trying Callaway. but not with the FT-5

Customer Service

As always Callaway provide a good service

Tried everything nike, wilson staff spine, cleveland, cobra and ping various shafts in each and lofts but save the beat for last The Callaway FT-5 Tour ,i have a swing speed average of 105 mph ball speed of 156 mph averageand the callaway suits this perfect ordered a FT-5 Tour in 10.5 Stiff and cant wait to get it !
All the negative comments on here only show that you cant have been custom fit my TaylorMade wasnt custom and you can tell ,Get the correct shaft head angle and this really is a awesome club!
Oh and for all you people who say you cant work the ball with it thats just down to a down right lack of skill on your part not the clubs!!

I too am amazed at anything negative I read about this club. I will agree that the sound is differente but after awhile you even get used to that. I was fitted and tried every club out there including the new Ping G10. No comparing the two drivers. The FT-5 is better, just make sure you get fitted. I fought the results for about 2 months concerning this club because of the price and the sound. Yet everytime I went to the launch monitor and was fitted the results always came back to the Ft-5. Got one, put a 6W06 Rombax shaft in it and have never looked back. Getting fitted is key with any club if you are a serious player.

Customer Service

Never had to use it, but all the feedback I've heard is very positive as was with ping products.
