Model Reviewed: Callaway Fusion FT-3 Driver

Have been playing golf for 1 year this month Am 38, and my ss is 105 mph. Regularly shoot in mid 90's and when the stars align, have broken below. To date 86 is my best score. With embarrassment admit to having tried every single driver. They are all excellent but as a newbie, my swing continues to evolve for the better (from a built in power slice, to a nice consistent fade) with constant lessons and playing.

Started with the BB 454 but I was slice machine (my swing not the club), and since then have owned and played (all in 9.5* loft): Titleist 905t with Aldila NV green 65 stiff (very straight for me, penetrating flight, not that long but really liked this club for some reason) and R with V2 75 stiff(less straight but only a little longer than the T, and higher flight than the T, wanted to like it more, but not that happy with the sticky sound impact feel where the ball seems to stick to the face-does not feel as hot off a face as other to me; am going to change to a 65 gram shaft to see if it length and control gets better: as I said I really want to like it), Nike Sasquatch stock Diamana 65 stiff (very straight and long), TM 460 (very high ballooning flight and short for me), Cally X-Tour (did not like feel or sound). Have demoed in range only the PING G5 (probably rank it second best) and Mizuno 500 (did not like it).

Of all of these clubs my discovery of the FT-3 Tour 9.5* with STOCK Aldila NVS 65 stiff shaft still has me scratching my head. I bought a neutral version and it is by far the longest driver I have ever hit (by between 10 and 30 yards compared to the others listed). This is of course my personal experience, but I am hitting a nice fade or sometimes straight with a boring penetrating flight that looks like a jet on take off. I liked it so much I bought the same club last month but with draw bias and the result shocked me even more. I have never, ever been able to draw the ball. With this club all most shots are now straight (no more fade) and occasionally (3 out of ten drives) I will get a nice 5 yard draw. The ball feels like it jumps off the face and the sound of champagne corks going off sure makes me feel like celebrating when I see that ball far down the middle of the fairway. I am averaging 280 on my drives and if conditions (wind, down hill, or maybe just the perfect timing that comes around once in while) I will a get one 300 hundred yarder every other time I play. I am convinced this is the club for me.

This is a great driver. The sound at impact, even solid contact, is a little dull and takes a little getting used to. But is is tremendously long, adding 15 yards over my Taylormade R7 without changing my swing. Very confidence inspiring at address. The club head does not appear too large. A really attractive club. A large area of the sole is graphite, unlike most other clubs where nearly the entire sole is metal. What this means is that impact of the sole with the ground during a mis-hit has a higher chance of breaking the clubhead on the sole. This should not be a problem if you seldom mis-hit.

Customer Service

When I first got the driver at a golf shop a crack developed on the sole. The club got sent back to callaway and they replaced it within a week.

Model Reviewed: Callaway FT-3 Tour 8.5 w/ Stiff NV Shaft

I reviewed this driver almost a year ago. I now have a new one with 8.5 loft instead of the 9.5 I purchased a year ago. I also went with the NV shaft over the NVS in my previous. I am now convinced after using almost every driver than has been released in the past 12 months. The Callaway FT-3 Tour is the best driver that has ever been produced by any company in the history of golf. It is way beyond every other current golf club manufacturing company in the world. The only thing I am wondering about at this point? How will Callaway improve on this club. It is the longest, straitest, and most forgiving driver on the market today. Hands Down. I have wanted to like other clubs. But when I try something else its almost like the FT-3 steps up its performance just so I will not stop using it. I feel guilty when its not in my bag. Like I am betraying my best friend. Buy this club and you will fall in love.

Sets up square. Neutral. Can shape shots either way. Custom ordered w/Fuji Tour Platform 26.3. Have not found anything yet that has the combonation of length, accuracy and workability as this one. Maybe the X460 is longer but I love the FT3. Am a 4hcp and this is definetly the best all around driver I've hit yet.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use but heard it's great.

i read some reviews on this driver & thought here we go another driver that adds 10 - 20 yards to your drives blah blah blah.
well i was totally wrong, over the past year i have tried all the major brands of driver,R580XD R7,R5TP,R510TP,COBRA 440SZ,460SZ,983k,905T,905S,454,MX500,MP100,G2,G5,plus some i can't remember, trying to gain more lenght from the tee.
i play off 6 & need to get down to cat 1 which is 5 & below, anyway i was just about to give up my search & i thought phil mickleson seems to have done well with it, not that he was short anyway. why not give one a go, well i can hold my hand on my heart this driver has added at least 15 yards to my game early year in the u.k, plus i can't wait until the summer the ball seems to keep going, which once the fairways are running this could be 15 - 25 yards i guess, plus i have the neutral model which appears to be very easy to shape which appears to be trendy, but what is wrong with hitting the ball striaght which this club also does with no trouble, i can agree the sound at contact with the ball takes some getting used to, but the more dull the thwack you have hit the sweetspot, which is good to know, anyway i have never been a fan of callaway drivers before but i am a fan now of this model, so to come to the end of my review if you need more lenght of the tee if this model doesn't work then forget it you will never get there, thank you callaway what will you do next?

This is a fantastic driver. Had the first generation Fusion; it got stolen out of my bag. Initially, I was mad as hell. After getting the new FT 3 (9.5 Tour, Aldila NVS 65 Stiff) and playing twice with it, I could kiss the idiot who made off with the old equipment!! There is no comparison between the two models. If you're a Callaway fan (even if you're not), you owe it to yourself to give this one a shot. Great aesthetics, ball flight, and in my opinion, sound from this club.

Customer Service

I had an old Steelhead III 3 wood. After 2-1/2 years of play, the face caved in. With no receipt, my golf shop worked with Callaway and they sent me a new Big Bertha 3 wood, easy as could be. Their technology and exemplary customer service easily justifies a price tag on the high end of the spectrum.

I recently bought this driver, and I love it! This is by far the best driver I have ever hit! I have the 9.5 degree with the grafalloy blue stiff shaft, and I have to say that I have never hit tee shots farther, and straighter with more accuracy.Everyone should have this driver if they want to play better golf as long as you get fit for the right club, and are willing to pay the money.

Model Reviewed: Callaway FT-3 Fusion Tour 8.5

I have played this driver for almost a year now. I had it reshafted with a Fujikura 757 X shaft. Besides the sound this club makes I have been very please. I have the 8.5 fade set up. The ball comes off the club face well and the ball flight is perfect for me. The deep face makes the club seem smaller than other 460cc drivers which I prefer. I have always liked Titleist drivers because of the way the way they set up but it seems they have fallen behind a bit. This is a great alternative. Not as goofy as some of the big drivers out there now. It is a great improvement over the first generation Fusions and I would highly recommend giving it a shot.

Model Reviewed: Callaway FT-3 Tour 9.5 Neutral. NVS Stiff

Fantastic club.Of all the drivers currently available this has got to take some beating.460 CC head does not appear overly cumbersome when you address the ball.Tee the ball up high and swing smoothly through the ball and watch it fly!Have owned or tried nearly all of the current crop of drivers and this is without doubt in a class of its own. This particular Tour version has the slightly heavier 65 NVS shaft and in this stiff flex still gives a lovely mid to high ball flight with no ballooning evident at all.I would imagine when the fairways get a bit dryer as we head toward summer then I will be getting considerable roll on the ball as well. Great cosmetics and a great sound at impact which I have heard is not to everyones liking. Its a very solid sound not unlike an old persimmion wood but much louder. Not the cheapest driver around but remember you are getting Callaway quality and a lot of technology, and if you shop around, particularly on ebay, you can pick up a bargain, providing you know what fit you require and which model suits your game etc. I have the neutral version which gives me a very slightly left to right ball flight. As my natural ball flight has always been a high fade this club has definately straightened it up. In summary....great club making maximum use of an excellent quality stock shaft.Aviod it at your peril!!

Customer Service

Callaway quality is such that you very rarely have to use them but on the odd occations that I have done down the years,it has always been exemplary.
