we came from Monterrey to play this course on a Thursday and expected to find a world class golf course, or what they said is the one of the best courses on the central coast. what we found was a course that seem to have run out of money while building it, and has no ideal of what a world class golf course should be. the fairways and greens are well kept and I will give them that, but the rough is a joke with dirt and gopher holes. the trees on numerous fairways block a great tee shot to the pin which you can't see till after you get there, and flag placements are diabolical at times hidden from view and impossible to get close to at times. I don't consider having gopher holes and dirt 8ft off the greens as world class on a par 4. the sand was firm and had pebbles in it, very poor I thought. many of the cart paths were dirt and dusty, and this on a hot day was very annoying. there carts are older gas powered carts too and a bit noisy...lol the holes with the blind tee shots that have trees in them rewards local knowledge as a slice may have been a better shot. never saw a cart girl all day and it was 95deg not to mention we finished our round at 5pm and the clubhouse was closed, they said not many people play there on weekdays and so they close early, what?
the driving range had only 3 flags to hit to and 2 had fallen down, it could have been way better with more choices to hit to guys. had to laugh too as the whole round the farmer next to the course was shooting ground squirrels from his ATV and you could hear and see him all day...lol also the freeway is right there and with the road noise and cars honking or yelling FORE was helpfull. a world class golf course this isn't and I can see what they were trying to go for, but there missing a few of the pieces. I bet I could spend one month on this course and make all these changes happen and bring it more up to par, and its been open a long time now too. just seems like a lack of mgmt to me.
I'm not mad, I just expected a lot more from the pics I saw on line and reviews that everyone puts up. this course can't even compare to 1/2 the courses in Monterey or Rancho San Marcos to the south. as my partner said this course is the best advertised course ever and has creative advertising for sure. I wish them the best in the future. ps they really should update there website too, no rates. on a good note the town has some great spots to eat.

closing the clubhouse by 5pm is a sin.

Have not played this course since 1996, needless to say it has matured quite a bit. The fairways were plush, greens were like velvet and the rough was 3-5 inches and playable. I was in the fairway all day with my drives, there are several lay up holes. If you choose you go for it on your second shot, trouble awaits you. I like the fact that there are not homes on this course making it a beautiful course to play. It was just a great day, crystal clear and the experience was one that will bring me back to Hunter. No wind at all and course management, is a must. If the wind comes up this course would be a tuff one to play. The only two things that got my attention was the tee boxes were un kept and they have two par 5's back to back, never have played a course with tow par 5's back to back. A little costly, but fun to play.

Customer Service

Nice people, I was to into going to # 1 to pay that much attention.

My favorite course. If you are going to post a good score, make sure you do it on the front nine. The back nine is target golf at it's best. I only hit driver on the back nine once (#18). Course knowledge is a must. Your round will be a success or failure based on the way you play #11 thru #14. It's just a great golf course in every way.

Customer Service

Friendly people and quite helpful.

One of the hidden Gems in all of California. You earn your score here nothing is given to you.Every hole is unique and different, the greens are as fast and smooth as any I've played on.This course is a MUST PLAY if you are anywhere near the Paso Robles are.

And also when you are leaving the course head East down hwy 46 Two miles to Tobin James winery for some of the best wine in Ca.

This is my home course, as I live in Paso. I bought a Club Membership late last year, and I have to tell you, it's a killer value! I feel quite fortunate, because this course is THE best course I have ever played, and it is quite tricky.

The best part is the value. You cannot play a course of this quality in California for less than $80.00.

Just a few helpful hints:

Summertime - It can get really hot (90 - 100 deg), so dress and hydrate accordingly.

Hole 11 is a real ball-eater. If you lay up right, you are hitting ~150 yards to a small green over water (the green is 1/2 surrounded by the water). And in the afternoons, the wind can be in your face, adding 1-2 club distance.

The front of the green on hole 18 is the toughest by far of any green I have ever played. If you find the pin in the front of the green, pack your stuff up and come back the next day.. (Just kidding) The green is severely sloped from right to left, and it's slick. You can find yourself with a front right pin placement, and be putting uphill, and the ball can turn around and run back down the hill, sometimes further than where you putted it.

I'm working on playing all of the other courses in SLO county, but for now, I can't put any others above Hunter.

Customer Service

Excellent service, helpful. Always accomodating. They do have stewards that cruise the course and keep things moving along, carts on path etc.

Not as good as they say it is...don't know where they got the idea that they are 3rd in Ca behind Pebble and Spyglass...not anywhere close...some good holes on front, quirky holes on back. Staff leaves something to be desired! Little snooty for Paso, thought I was in LA!

This is the best golf course in the area. I've played from Santa Maria to Paso Robles and Hunter Ranch is the best. It is kept in excellent condition. The greens are in great condition and the fairways are perfect. Every hole has a designed shot with trouble waiting for the wayward shot. After a round of golf, one can relax by going on a winetasting tour.

Customer Service

Fantastic. A very helpful staff

This is my favorite (public) course in CA. Ii's a great course & GREAT value. The fariways & greens are amazing, the layout is challenging & varied, the views are wonderful--it's set in the middle of vineyard--and when I've been there (weekday pm), there's only been a handful of people on it. ( I'd rather not play than play a crowded course) I also reviewed La Pursima in SB county, and both are great courses & incredible values, but I prefer Hunter Ranch. Maybe Hunter is a bit easier, since the wind's not such a factor. Hunter's fairways were in a little better shape too, when I've played there.

Customer Service

Friendly, helpful, unpretentious staff. (And no, I don't work there or have any affiliation w/the course!)

What a great golf course in the middle of wine country! Great views of the area from many of the tee boxes. The greens are quick, but very true. Practice your putting before playing the course. The back nine certainly makes you play some target golf. Play with somebody who knows this course, it will help your score. I''ll be back.

Customer Service

Very friendly. They helped explain the back nine to me as I had not played there before.

Decent driving range. There are three practice holes next to the driving range which give you a feel for the course.
