Model Reviewed: Nike One Platinium

Nike has a winner here, but for different reasons than you might think. The One Platinium is NOT a distance ball. The ball has one of the fastest spin rates off the wedge AND driver. Spin kills distance, and makes a hook or slice REALLY look bad. You can review the spin rate in various golf magazines that test golf equipment. In fact, of the balls tested by Golf Magazine, One Platinium tested at over 13,000 rpm's. Off the driver, you will lose some distance. However, where this ball shines is with your short-irons and wedges. The One Platinium slams on the brakes around the greeen better than any ball on the market. More feel than you can believe around and on the green. BTW, the greens are where the matchsticks are won and lost ! The One Platinium will reduce your scores if you can drive the ball well. You won't likely win a longest drive contest with it. IF you can drive the ball straight most of the time, this is a gem from your approach shot and in. It's almost like cheating with a Gap or SW in your hands ! Oh yeah, these golf balls are expensive as hell. They will cost you $42/dozen plus tax making it a poor value, so plan accordingly! Good golfing to all !

This is the longest ball I have ever hit. I have been a huge fan of the Pro V's but after hitting this ball sooo long yesterday and sooo straight and soo high, I'm sold!

I was disappointed with this ball compared to the pro V1s and the Callaway HX tour and HX Tour 56. I played three rounds off golf at pebble beach. first i played nike , then pro V then Callaway Hx tour 56. My first round the ball had alright trajectory and alright spin. My second round the Pro v played good. a little inconsistant but played good. Over all the callaway played the very best. good spin and trajetory. if you are going to spend alot of money on a ball i would get a set of Callaway Hx Tour 56s.

This is my new fav ball, I played this ball for the 1st time in September and managed to make 18 holes last with this ball. The ball flight, spin, control were all great with this ball.

My wedge game was the best it's been as I am able to control the ball into the green with hop and sto motion EVERY TIME.

Putting was the best of my life, 5 two putts, everything else was a 1 putt.

I am not sure what others are taking about that the cover rips. I found this ball to wear like any other 3p ball that has a soft cover.

i got a box of 12 but when i got home i foun that someone had nicked a sleeve out of the box and was left with 9 but anyway i was playing on stovers 4th par 4 353 yrds on a downhill slope and i took my driver out and blasted one straight at the flag it had a perfect trajectory went miles and then checked and stopped 9 foot fron the hole (i measured it because i was so proud) that was the reason i had done a review oh and i am still on my first ball after 5 and a half rounds also i played at augusta about half a month after the masters its bloody pricey and even though the greens were rock hard and the fairways soft this ball bit like hell it is an amazing ball. and another thing that people dont write about very often is its brilliance in putting it keeps its line very solid and rolls beautifully and if you go for a full splash shot out of a bunker it balloons up, lands softly and spins bachk 5ft or so maybe even more it is a must have BUY THEM!!!!!!!

Get some '07 Nike One+Platinum's. These balls compare well to the Titleist Pro V's. I've switched mostly due to price, Pro v's are about $55 a dozen at the local pro shop and I'm buy these Nike's for less than $32 on Ebay shipping included. My handicap has went down 2 shots since I switched, might be the ball and might not.

i recently shot my best round with this ball(80) usually in the mid 80's but this is a great ball, it holds up nice on greens and is way more durable then the prov1's i have used the ball for 40 holes as i lost it today in the tree's. This is a really great ball although it is pritty pricey. The new one platinum is better then the old.

Played a round of golf with 2 balls comparing the Nike One Platinum and Nike Juice. The Platinum on average went about 5-8 yards longer and was actually straighter than the Juice. This amazes me as I am not a single digit handicapper, therefore, most would say stick to the 2 piece balls as the compression is lower, in turn straightening shots and driving them longer. This is not true in my case. I would guess my swing speed is around 100-105 (I hit an 8 iron around 145-150 yrds).

On the green, the Platinum did what it does....checks nicely. I am not one to put enough back spin on the ball to even roll back the best of them, including the Platinum...but the ball did hit, bounce one, and stop. The Juice on the other hand hit and continued to roll. Many higher handicappers would like this characteristic of the Juice ball, but I enjoy using my 58* wedge rather than a bump and run PW, so having the ball check up nicely is a plus for me.

Hitting the longer irons 3-7 iron played about the same with both balls, but the Platinum felt alot nicer off the club face.

As far as durability, I have no problem with the Platinum. I've heard some hit a wedge shot and see "hairs" come off this ball, but I guess I use a sweeping motion with my wedge rather than a downward motion, so my balls last a while. So far the Platinum has been my favorite ball hands down over the Callaway HX Tour 56 and Pro V1x. I will be playing this ball for some time.

Look before i say what im about to say i mean no offense to the review below me. That said a golf ball does not straighten out tee shots nor any shot for that matter, swing mechanics and proper fitted clubs do. Dont anyone go out and buy $40 balls thinking that they will straighten out your shots ...cuzz they dont. Now with that said the Nike One Platinum in my opinion is a great ball....if u are a touring pro like TIGER that doesnt have to pay for the immense amounts of One Platinums that someone will go through per round due to an extremely soft and weak cover. I love the ball, however i cant afford to have to take a new ONE PLATINUM out of my bag every hole due to huge scuff marks from a single wedge shot. If u guys want a great performing tour level golf ball that has a durable over then buy either the bridgestone B330's or the new Taylormade TP balls, that is unless u can afford to spend $40 a day on golf balls

My game is built around accurate iron play and a solid short game. With the driver I can be erratic, so I need a ball that 1)will not stray too badly with the driver 2)will give enough feed-back with the irons 3)will hold very hard greens.
Extra length is not a consideration

The Nike fills all 3 nicely. Keeps online from the tee, is soft enough to be responsive with irons and gives me the confidence to be aggressive around the greens.

If you need a ball that will find more fairways, give it a try.
