I found one of these on a course the other day and was intrigued by it since my best friend plays Hogan irons. I finished my round with the ball and shot one of the finest rounds i have shot to date. I had been having trouble with my irons lately and this ball just seemed to iron out some of my mis-hits. I played a second round the next day with this same ball and once again was extremely happy with the outcome. I will now be going to buy a box of these to see what happens over quite a few rounds!!!! I really like them!

I have shot a handful of rounds in the 70's with this ball. It is nearly as long as the longest balls I've played. It is a very good compromise ball. You can work it, but not as easily as say HX Tour, ProV1, Srixon URX, or even Strata Tour TL. But you can work it. This means that your mis hits with the longer clubs are usually still in play, where they aren't as often with the other balls mentioned. It putts well and is good around the green. It also holds almost as well as the best balls out there, and way better than other balls in it's catagory (ie NXT Tour) If I had just a little better swing I would play the Calloway HX Tour. Since I don't the Hogan Hawk is the best all around ball I've played. You can score with this ball!

HX Tour - Long as anything - love it, but misses spin too much on the driver. ProV1 - Feels great, but same spin problem and one of the shorter balls out there now. Precept Laddie - LONG, can't work it at all and crappy around the green. Srixon URX - about the same as ProV1 but I like it a tad better. Precept UTRI Tour - too much spin and too short. NXT Tour - LONG, a little better than the Laddie but not nearly good enough at checking up / holding. Top Flite Strata Tour TL - Long enough, spins well. I like the HX Tour better though.

This has to be the best $25 ball out there. I just played a round hitting these and Precept U-Tri Tour back to back and really couldn't tell much difference. Good feel - not too mushy like some low compression balls, good spin and control around the greens, and good distance. Maybe not as long and straight as a SoLo, but much better control around the greens where you score.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Hawk golf balls

I take the game very seriously. I am constantly upgrading my equipment with the hope of knocking another stroke off my handicap. I have focused on technology and lessons as my best opportunity to improve since I recently turned 50. The golf ball has been my recent project. My goal is to maintain or increase my distance. I average 220-230 off the tee and usually avoid trouble. I have tried some of the two piece lower compression balls and found some of them acceptable (Noodle, Srixon AD333, Nike Mo-Jo etc.). The distance gained with those balls is often at the expense of accuracy because they produce too much spin. I have recently discovered the Ben Hogan Hawk. It is a three peice lower compression ball that gives me nearly the distance of the two peice balls but with a huge increase in accuracy. The dimple pattern produces a nice high flight and a soft short landing with approach irons. My fade off the tee has straightened out and I'm hitting my irons like darts. The balls are also very behaved around the greens and on long putts. I bought my first dozen of these balls at Golf Galaxy for $25 which is only $5 more then the average cost of the most common two peice balls. This is very little when compared to the performance enhancements that I have experienced with my game. I intend to stay with this ball for the forseeable future.

What a great ball for the money!!! Great distance, the feel off the club face is great and the spin on the greens is great also, but not to much spin like the Pro V. Off the tee it is long!!! This ball holds up great also, I played one ball the whole round and it held-up very nice!!!

the hawk is an all around ball, distance, feel and the ability to spin the ball on the greens is second to none. I guess being a 3 piece ball does indeed play better....
