Nice wedge, good balance and feel, solid but not too heavy. One complaint; plays as though the bounce was higher than 14 degrees. I used to carry a 16 degree SW and this bounces as least as much as that one did from the fairway and really promotes thin shots. Reduces the usefulness of the club outside the bunkers.

It is a good wedge for open flop shots and for close shots around the green. Very accurate around 100 yards. The clubface got a little worn out and I bought a cobra trusty rusty.

This club has shaved plenty of strokes of my game. You can open the face so 'plop' the ball down on the green, or keep it at 54 for those 80-100 yard shots. Also greate from the rough and bunkers.

I have also tried Cobra Trusty-Rusty a bit, and a cheap Ping imatation.

I've been playing the CheckMate for more than 4 years and it's still my first choice utility club around the green. It gives me the ability to stop the ball no matter how deep the rough or how wet.

If you're looking for a 3rd wedge, this would be my recommendation.

The only drawback is if you play a soft cover ball. You'll scuff the cover on a full shot.

Customer Service

I called them about the lifetime of the surface. They said they have touring pros playing it for thousands of shots and none of them have needed a replacement.

Classic wedge shape and feel. Nice swingweight without feeling too head heavy. Very consistent distances and accuracy. Tungsten particles wear off the surface but the clubs still perform great. I especially love the LW--beautiful shots around the green where the hole is close to the edge...I get those alot too! Gap is OK but I would probably like that one in the same model as my regular irons. Oh, my LW is also in a graphite shaft which is surprisingly stiff with VERY nice feel. Give it a try!!!

This wedge really surprised me. The shape is slighty more compact than the Taylor wedge and the face is a little rougher. The 55 Sand wedge is a good all round tool but has a little too much bounce for my taste and is a hair heavy. The 60 wedge IS the best I've ever played touch shots of any kind are no problem and distance control is great. Ball hits the green and stops period.

The Checkmate 55-degree wedge is a perfect club for my game. I can hood down and knock it 100 yards, or open it up and flop a shot to a short green. It has a healthy bounce edge which promotes some skulls, but overall it has been a great addition to my bag. I use it as a sand wedge, too.
