Decent for the type of set it is--another no-feel cast cavity back that lets you blast 185-yard 7-irons, straightens out every solidly hit shot whether you want it to or not, hits it the same height most every time whether you want it to or not, etc.

If you note a distinct lack of enthusiasm, it's because this set represents the biggest equipment mistake I ever made (other than mistakenly ordering a 3-utility instead of a 2, when I was getting a Titlest 585, and then hitting it before I really thought about it, so I couldn't return it). I'd been playing Wilson Staff forged musclebacks all my competitive life, and for some reason I got the notion that since a fellow Irishman (Harrington) was playing the DRiis, I should give them a try, too. Very cheap on ebay, which is why I'm giving them a good value rating.

But as for performance: It's not that they're terrible-feeling when you hit them on the sweet spot; you can hit them a mile, but they feel dull and stupid, not like precision instruments (as forged blades do), and from 70 yards to greenside everything just wants to explode off them. They seem about as good as anybody else's similar club from five or ten years ago--Titleist 981s, Armour 855s, whatever--but that's faint praise, if you're used to forged irons. I'm going back soon as I can afford it, whether to the new FG Tour, the FG-59, an old FG model, an old Taylor Made 300, one of the Titleist forged, Mizunos, whatever. Actually, the best forged blade I've hit in 10 years was the King Cobra CB from about four years ago (as good as any Mizuno I've ever hit). The difference in feel is so vast that it's hard to call both the Cobra and the DRii "golf clubs," as if they're in the same class. By feel, they're not.

The "4" overall rating represents a compromise between the rating I'd give the clubs compared to other iron of the same class (as good as anything else of its type, I think, maybe a 4+ or so) and the rating I'd give them if compared to forged blades or forged cavity-backs (probably a 3, with decent straight-ahead performance but a real lack of feel).

I switched to these from Deep Red II Distance irons. My game had progressed to the point where I was learning how to shape shots. I just need a little more feel of the ball off the club face. But I was hooked on the whole Wilson Deep Red II concept. The Tour version of these irons has worked well for me. I just started using them this year.

Very much like the Deep Red II Distance irons, just a smaller club head and a little more feel. Killer set of irons.

Great set of clubs. If you have only been hitting cavity back irons then these will take a short time to get used to, at least it did for me, but they are pretty forgiving to start with. Just take the time to practice, as with all new clubs, and they will work great.
As far as looks go: they are a thing of beauty.

Nice clubs, very smooth to swing and don't need to put in huge effort to get the ball to fly well, although they can really fly when given a bit extra. They set up nicely and have no offset which I prefer. They feel solid on contact and are fairly forgiving. I would rate these much better than the price you can buy them for these days suggests. I've had mine for almost 3 years now and they are still in great shape. My brother recently picked up a set for £100 which is a bargain when you compare the playability of these against some more 'bigger name' clubs that will cost you the earth. I would reccomend these for golfers of handicaps between 12-28. I'm looking at getting teh Mizuno MX25's next to try and get a little more feel as I have a fairly consistent swing and don't quite need so much forgiveness.

Borrowed a set of these of my brother and he hasn,t seen them since. Great ball flight, boring shots into the wind at my links course and not to big to look at. Some clubs look like shovels on the end of sticks! Yuk! I hold no fear of left to right winds when playing with these, i can draw them into the wind all day. I play off 18 but these would suit a lower handicap player, its just my putting thats rubbish.

just to make a point these irons r very good even though I am a crapy player I hit with them very good it is to bad that people have to give them a bad rap but they will go out and but a set taylor made racs and think they have the best club out there but if they do a little research they will find out that most of the new clubs r desined after these clubs and I think they hit very nice all u have to do is hit the ball not the ground and the ball will go were u hit it and I stink at it but enjoy these clubs very much. my best game so far is 95 so u take it upon your self about these clubs I have used taylor made titliest and a few others and these r just as good as all the rest I hope that helps u out

Great looking club, sets up nice. Nice ball flight when struck solidly. Not too forgiving on miss hits in regards to distance but still go pretty straight. Feels slighty firmer than some of the newer clubs out there, but I guess thats what you get when playing with a "tour iron". Overall, very good club for a mid to lower handicap player.
