Simply perfect. I decided to purchase new irons this year. I was tired of looking down at my rather CHUNKY x-12s... They almost look silly there so big. Anyways, I love these irons. Extremely accurate... I also think there longer than my x-12s, especially when hit solid. Go try them today!

Model Reviewed: 981 trispec steel stiff

These are one of the nicest looking clubs out right now. Ball flight for me was a little high and short. I found the shafts to be the suspect. I have always played the dynamic gold S300 and did not care for these trispec shafts( whatever they are). At $600.00 there should be a better shaft available. I would not recommend these irons to a high handicapper. Compared to many others though, I still think these are better than most in the price range. They would be awesome with better shafts.

I have owned my 981's for 2 years and I still think that they are one of the best clubs money can buy. I think that these clubs dam near feel like a blade and are very workable and they are almost as soft as the cleveland TA1's I just tried the other day. I am a very heavy ball striker and I find that these clubs are enormously long. with my old pings I hit my 6 iron about 195 yards and with these I hit it about 205. When I got these clubs my handicap was 5 now I break par quite often. I just find these clubs extremely workable even when you really want to swing at it. For the price you pay for these clubs compared to 1100.00 dallar cleveland blades or any other high end players clubs are the best golf clubs that money can buy.

These are good looking clubs. Thicker topline than 990's but thinner than many of the competition (like Ping I3 OS and much thinner than X14's). Look really good at address. There is some progressive offset with these irons, but considerably less than with the Pings and Callaways.

The 981's have a higher swingweight than the I3's or X14's which I liked. I found I had a better perception of where the clubhead was with these irons and it was easier for me to find my tempo.

Good hits sound and feel great. You can feel the "meat" behind the ball when you hit the sweetspot, and the shot is accompanied by a crisp "thwack". Off center hits feel harder and sound a little duller. Very pleasing tradjectory and good distance - amongst the longest irons I've tried and very accurate.

Off center hits still generally go where you intended but you are penalised for distance a little more than with the X14's or I3 OS.

All in all, these are great clubs. However ca only give them "3 Stars" for value when there are clubs like the Maxfli Revolution Midsize around. Tey are the clubs I ended up buying - please read my review for the Maxfli.

I just picked up my set of 3-pw yesterday. It was raining, but I did spend about 40 min. at the range. They are sweet! I was using Callaway original Big Bertha irons and these were my first set of real Irons. I had always felt pretty confortable with them, but I had nothing to compare it to. I hated looking down at address and seeing that huge top line. TOO BIG for me. I cant wait to hit the course with my new Irons.

I gave up a little distance, but the accuracy seems much better.

So far, so good!

I am not a great golfer, but I think its smarter to go with a players club vs. a game improvement club---you will never get better if your always using a game improvement club.

These are the wweetest feeling irons I've ever hit. Much more forgiving than I expected. Also, much more accurate than my previous irons (Callaway Big Bertha). I would definitely recommend these irons for anyone making the transition from game improvement irons to a more traditional "blade type" iron.

I hit with a strong left-hand grip and, as a result, the trajectory of my ball has been, especilly with my mid and long iron, very low and usually flying from right to left. However, this problem is now cured by this 981 iron as it delivers ball higher in the air as well as straighter toward the target.
The feel is very good especially when I hit well, yet a bit dull when I hit off centre. I think I gaind around 10 yard with this irom. I used hit 140 yard with old 7 iron and now around 150 yard with 7.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this irons and recommende it to mid-handicapped club golfers.

These are great irons. I've been playing them for over a year now. They are very forgiving. I just ordered the ping i3 blade irons, I believe titleist is going to have come out with a blade for the public to keep up with ping.

I was in the market for purchasing new clubs and demo'ed the titleist 981/990 the Callaway Steel heads and the Ping I3 oversized.

I used the custom fit cart for the titlesit and the Pings. The titleist were great feeling and sounding clubs. The clubs produced a high draw something I was unable to hit naturally with my orginal clubs, Big Bertha Irons.
When I hit the Pings I like the feel better and the acuracy seem better than the titleist. It was a tough decision between the two, but I always wanted Pings and thought that new technology may be better that the old titleist, although the technology works. I bought the Pings and am very happy, the titleists were great clubs and parts of me still think I should have bought the titleists.
