I bought a second hand set of these irons about two years ago when I was 14. I used to play off around 25 but with the help of these irons I am now playing off 14. I would realy recommend these irons to mid-handicap players who are serious about improving their game. I find the irons are very forgiving and allow for slight miss hits, when you hit them well they feel great and the ball will travel dead straight. Overall i think these irons are great and quite cheap as well, I bought mine for around £150. Customer Service bought off the internet. |

I am 14 and on the shorter side so i just moved up from junior clubs and i already love them. They are very consistent and when you hit a good ball you can really tell. |

What was Titleist's easier hit to club at the time, they are still a players club. A heavy feel using the Tri Spec R-flex shafts.
Customer Service Awesome. I had these clubs custom fit with matching serial numbers, so you get free loft and lie modifications for the life of the irons. Only had to pay 10 bucks shipping to mail them in. Similar Products Used: Demoed some wilson fat shafts at the time. They were almost identical in feel. Tried some cobras later and loved the cobras more. |

I bought this set of irons in 2002. They have travelled the world with me and have proven to be one of the best investments over the years. Over the last 4 years or so Ive dropped about 10 strokes off my game. It took a good year to get a feel for these clubs but after I tuned in my swing and became more precise with my mechanics, these irons really started working well for me. This is a great set for players in the intermediate to advanced level of play. Not for the high handicapper. These clubs will need the lie angle adjusted after you've played a bit. The sweet spot is fairly precise so there isnt much room for variance in your game, go to the range and play lots of golf if you want these to work for you. If you only play a few times a month then maybe these wont work for your style of play. |

Good set of irons but not great... These irons are made for intermediate to experienced golfers... They are not the longest and also not the straightest set I've owned... I guess you can blame that on the technology used at the time they were created... I would recommend the average golfer to pass up on these irons even though they are from Titleist... Try the 990 or the 762's, they are more forgiving and they both produce better distance... However, the 981 does give excellent feedback on mis-hits... It also has the perfect size and look... Not too bulky like the new cavity backs on the market... But for your money, I would recommend something else!!! I have hit these irons for the past 3 years. I went into golfsmith one day, hit them and fell in love with them, and haven't turned back since. It's easy to control trajectory and working the ball left and right isn't as easy as some other irons, but I'm not sure if that's the clubs or an operator malfunction. Mis-hits are not punished much at all, only a few yards. Distance is a bit better than most clubs with same loft specifications.

good
i just recently bought these titleist irons at my local golf shop and found that they fit my game style. high and far. these things will get the ball in the air along with the carry that good players need. the only problem i found in them was that they had a tendency to hit on the toe of the club( probably my fault). other then that they are great |

Due to lack of frequent playing the last couple of years,(wife and 3 kids),I don´t play as good as I used to. I´ve been looking for clubs that give me a bit of help and still let me control the ball just a little bit. Have tried cleveland vas and wilson ultra(graphite). They where ok, but they did´nt give me that little extra. Good long irons but 7 irons and up where awful. I found these titleist 981 with original steel shafts as "used" at a pro shop and fell in love at the first practice swing. I bought them really cheap, (wife and 3 kids put me on a budget), and have now played them for a couple of rounds. Have also adjusted the lie to fit my needs. I really love these clubs. Totally. They are the best and nicest clubs I have played, yet. And they look neat, no callaway ugliness. I have hit a few 180 yars 5 Irons and let me tell you, that was a really long time ago. Thanks titleist. If you are looking for a traditional look of a golf club and shoot 85 or below, this is for you. Unless your a very low handicapper don't even think about buying these irons. They are the least forgiving irons I have ever used. They might be useful for training and perfecting ones swing as it is very difficult to hit the sweet spot. If you miss the sweet spot the club will turn in your hand and/or stop the flow of ones follow through. Even when you hit the sweet spot it dosn't always feel solid. God help you if you happen to hit this club a little fat ... the ball will squirt off to the right or the club will close resulting in an ugly duck hook to the left. I have nothing good to say about these clubs. Note to Senior players ... unless you are very strong and swing hard don't even think about these clubs. I love these irons. I love the way they feel in my hands and the look at address not to bulking but not to bladish. If you take a slow swing and don't try to kill it like most of us amateurs then it's like butter and bread. Pro's 1.Very attractive Iron 2.Easy to hit 3.Solid-soft feel at contact 4.Does not get caught up in the Grass(including rough) 5.Extremely far and Accurate Cons 1.grip can tend to rip the hands (easily replaceable) 2.It hit of the toe or heel, it tends to feel bad, but what iron doesn't? 3.Difficult to hit the 3 Iron 4.Hard to not want to buy!! Customer Service Titleist has always been number one on my list for customer service, one of my shafts snapped and they sent me a new one quickly. |
