Taylor Made Super Steel
I switched to the Taylor Made Super Steel irons from the King Cobra 2 oversized 2 years ago. A friend won them in a bet and after I hit them he never got them back I play every round with them and who ever says you can not work a ball with them is a bold face lier. They are a soild unforgiving club. When you hit a bad shot you can feel it and when you hit a good shot you know it off the face. I recommend the Super Steel irons to any beginner they are sweet. The Supersteel irons are an excellent value, and very good starter set for any golfer, or someone who thinks they may take up this great game. I played the Supersteels for 3 years, after having given up golf for 12 years while my kids were little. I have since went to the classic Mizuno MP-30. The Supersteels are much more forgiving, but don't provide the feel, feed back and workablility of the Mizuno forged irons. Overall, the Supersteels are actually better for most players because of their superior forgiveness, and you can work them if you really need to. So, unless you think you can learn to work the ball like a PGA tour player, stick with a solid cast cavity back, like the TM Supersteels. Customer Service Never used. These were my first set of real named brand clubs, before these I was using the knock off version of this model. I always hit them pretty good and I enjoyed the nice high arc and good distance I got when making good swings, a bad swing usually resulted in a stung hand and poor distance, so thankfully I made more good shots than bad. The best things about these clubs is how the address with the ball they have a little alighnment line on the face right at the edge that makes lining up the ball a snap, the other nice thing about these clubs is they are made to easily get the ball airborne. I ended up selling my set to one of my golf buddies who wanted to move up from his wal-mart Wilsons and the first time he played them he was just smiling the whole day, he said he'd never known that buying a good set of clubs would have made that much of a difference. He asked me why I sold them to him and after he took a swing with my new Taylormade 360's he understood right away. I would say these clubs are great for someone starting out and want a name brand club at a great price, I had many good years of play from these and would recommend them to anyone. Customer Service I got em on E-Bay but the seller was excellent. Similar Products Used: Taylormade Super Steel Knock Offs |

These are a good set of irons. I wouldn't use them on the PGA tour, but you can play good solid golf with these clubs. I play using the 2 thru PW, (the wedges to this set are poor) and with a good swing can put the ball on target. The distance is acceptable; 150 to 155 using a 5 iron (R80 Rifle Percision shafts).

Supersteel R-80
I have played these for several more months (now back to hitting driver). The Supersteel irons are basically the same as the new RAC low trajectory irons. I can take minimal divot with these; I love the slight offset as opposed to all these new irons with massive offset. I do not experience any ballooning with these; they hit a lower trajectory which I prefer. They are a bit heavier; I can feel where the club is during swing. Very easy to square! I love the standard Rifle shafts; wonderful vibration dampening properties. Those that say you can't work these must not know how to work a ball, not that it matters for most average golfers. I can work these when I need to. The carry distances are about a half club less than I'm used to, but I don't care because they're more accurate. |

Supersteel 3 iron
I shoot 90-92 on average only using irons. I use the Supersteel 3 iron to tee off with and that's the only iron I have from the set. I picked it up out of a used barrel for $15. This 3 iron is very easy to square and I wish I had an entire set of these. I know, how can I rate a set on 1 iron out of 8 you ask. Well, if the hardest iron to hit helped me hit 13 of 14 fairways last weekend, I'd feel safe it giving these at least a 4. Tried to find a set on ebay to no avail. Anyone know where I can get a set? |

This was my first brand-name set, purchased in Spring of 2000. i was fitted at demo day for bubble graphite, regular flex. immediately, i noticed a difference in feel compared to the old irons. however, over the next 3 1/2 years as my swing improved i noticed a tendency for what seemed to be well hit shots to spray all over the place. i was refitted recently for new clubs, and decided on Cleveland TA7 steel stiff shafts. their shot dispersal seems to be much narrower. i think the supersteel irons are a good mid-priced iron, but you can certainly get a much better set for just a few dollars more. if i could do it again, probably would have gone with steel shafts from the beginning. can't say i'm unhappy with them, b/c i won many local tournaments in the last 2 years with them. Taylor Made SuperSteel Burner Irons, Standard
this is a great set of clubs. i have collected a FULL set, 3-PW + AW + SW + LW, and they are very easy to hit. i think the ball flight is more dependent on one's swing, because i happen to hit a relatively low trajectory with these irons, contrary to a previous review. the heads are comparatively heavy, but the shaft is light, so you can definitely feel where the head is during the swing and at impact. i recommend these clubs to a beginner or intermediate, but not to the advanced, because i have found it more difficult to shape my shots than other irons sets i've tried. also, because this steel type is harder than other "normal" steels, i do not get as much feel from the wedges. but i'm still going to use these clubs for another several years. Customer Service i have reshafted several of the clubs, and it's around $50-$60 each, when i send them to taylor made. good service; no complaints, except that it can take upto 3 wks! Taylor Made Supersteel
These irons are a bit on the heavy side compared to the newer ones. Trajectory are way too high that during windy conditions in Texas (links course), the ball will be nowhere near the pin. During non-windy days, it's so accurate you can go hunting with it. I usually hit the 3 iron over 200 yards. The sand wedge however is useless. Response is terrible. When I hit the ball, it feels like the sound and the vibration travels all the way to my spinal cord. I prefer the Taylor Made Rac as opposed to the Supersteel. For performance and value, look for the Top flite XL 2000. Top flite will outperform this Supersteel. Similar Products Used: Taylor Made OS Rac Callaway Big Bertha Top Flite XL 2000 |
