Model Reviewed: TM RAC OS Irons 3-SW

Having hit a brick wall in my game, specially my iron game, i.e playing in the low 80's and unable to improve, I decided to go back to more forgiving clubs than the TM 300 forged I was using last year, so I bought a set of RAC OS Irons 3-SW (after trying many other clubs). I bought the Graphite version with the Original Regular Taylor Made Shaft. Liked them a lot out of the box. They have a look unseen on any previous Taylor Made Irons sets. They compete in that departement with the clubs I reckon are the nicest looking on the market : Callaways Irons. But looks are not everything, so I brought them to the range / simulator and from the first shot, and on, and on, what became obvious at once was their forgiveness; their heads are huge as are the sweet spots. That convinced me that until I will become a single figure handicap player (if that ever happens), the so called game improvement irons are the way to go for me, and with regular Graphite shafts as well. The difference between my good shots and my bad shots was much less important than with my previous clubs, and switching from club to club from short, middle to long irons, back and forth convinced me that I had made the right decision in coming back to the so called game improvement clubs versus the more exclusive stiff steel shafted, minimum offset, smaller forged heads reserved to a player that I am not (yet ?). In addition to be good looking and to be good, very good clubs, they are cheaper than similar clubs of the other top two-three brands and for me well deserve the highest mark and for value as well

Loved these irons since the first day I got them. Switched from TM 320's w/ Dynamic Gold steel shafts(r-flex). Precision lite steel shafts on the RAC's are much more fluid-feeling. Higher trajectory on the 3-4-5 irons with no loss of distance -- I may have even added 5-10 yards. I'm drawing the ball now as well. Good feedback at impact. Recently shot 88 on a course where I usually average 95-100 -- more greens in regulation thanks to these irons.

Customer Service

Price was okay, I could have done better online maybe, but at Roger Dunn, you can try them out for 90 days and return them for replacement if you don't like them. Worth the extra dough, in my view.

I traded in my Cleveland TA5's for a set of new Taylor Made RAC irons. I had used the Super Steel Burner iron and was very pleased with them but thought I was ready for a pro club like the TA5's. I must have gotten the most upright lie angle because I could not hit a green with a short iron. I had them checked and they were 4 degrees upright. I have only played two rounds with the RAC irons but am very impressed with the feel and flight of the ball. The club is vey light compared to my brother's Titletist DCI irons that are 5 years old. I believe this helps increase swing speed. I tend to slice so it a matter of the indian and not the arrow. Taylor Made has always produced quality clubs for all levels of players. Fred Couples plays a RAC prototype and he still hits the ball better them most. Just he cannot putt anymore. Give them a try. Great deal with Golfsmith as a traded in my old clubs and walked out with a new set of irons for around $100.
