Ping ZING2 Irons

Ping ZING2 Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ping: In the ZING2 iron, Karsten engineers created a higher moment of inertia, which produces greater resistance to twisting on off-center hits... the extreme perimeter weighting of the ZING2 increases the clubs' effective hitting area, optimizing forgiveness and accuracy. They feature a "leaner" more subtle profile (more standard width top line etc...) than their original "ZING" predecessors.

I have been playing with the ping zing 2's for about 3 years now and i love them. They are amazing clubs and despite the fact that they are pretty old i love them. My buddy bought the new Vr nike irons and i tried to use them and ended up going back to my ping zing 2's and i do not think that i will change clubs any time soon.

These are the best irons that I have played period. Everytime I try another iron I keep coming back to the Zing 2's. Ultra forgiving and very playable. Can draw and fade at will. They are also very long. Longer than all the new stuff out there.....Get yourself a set of these.....best iron set EVER!

Model Reviewed: Ping Zing 2 irons

I have been a Ping user since 1974. Bought a set of the original Ping Karsten I irons.
Later moved up to a set of Ping EYE2s. A couple of years ago, bought a set of Ping Zing irons. And last year stumbled across a set of Ping Zing2 irons for $175! I have tried different irons through my years but now that I'm in my 50s, cavity back is the only way for me. I thought the Zings had a huge sweetspot but after hitting the Zing2's, decided that was the club for me. If you can find a set on ebay or Callaway's preowned outlet for $200, even $250, they are well worth it.

Customer Service

I havent had to use Ping's customer service but when I called and asked questions, they were very helpful.

Model Reviewed: Ping Zing2 Irons - Red Dot

I recently found the set of irons I've wanted for nearly 20-years. The Ping Zing2 - Red Dot irons represents the best investment in recent memory. I borrowed a set nearly 20-years ago, and wanted a set for myself since, but couldn't afford them new, and couldn't find them for a reasonable price used. They are exactly as advertised, especially when hitting into the wind ala Tiger Woods' stinger. I get lots of back-spin, no twisting at impact, and most importantly, hit a lot more greens. Now, I need to work on my putting, or aiming directly at pins. The old "going for the fat of the green" doesn't cut it any more because I actually hit the greens where I aim now. It takes a lot of mental preparation when you're used to playing conservatively for so long, and rely on a killer short-wedge game to save par. Not being used to putting 20-25 footers for birdie, makes for an unexpected consequence - 3-putts...

After my introduction to golf with the old hand-me-down clubs, I looked to get more serious and purchase a decent set of game improvement irons. My goal was to find an iron that would be easy to hit consistently, that would hit straight and that would last. After some research, I decided on the Zing 2 irons. I deliberately did not look for irons that would allow me to work the ball, nor did I look to find the "hottest" clubs on the market. I have played these clubs about once a week for the past year and I have been truly impressed with their consistency, accuracy, durability and distance. The 3 and 4 irons are hittable, but the fun really starts with the 5. This club is easy to hit and is almost always good for 200+ yards. The shorter irons are accurate and confidence-inspiring at address. The only club I would consider replacing is the PW. It's a bit clunky and distance is a little tricky to control.

These clubs aren't for the golfer that is trying to bend the ball around trees. These irons aren't for the guy that wants to feel every dimple in the ball. They are for guys that want to hit the ball in a straight line, all day, every day.

I have no kidding dropped 30 strokes off my game in about a year. Certainly a lot of that is due to practice, but the CONFIDENCE I feel when I reach for one of these irons is a huge part of my improvement. I have tried a number of newer irons including TA6, G2, Rapture, Taylor Made and Mizuno. All great products, but none with the reliability of the Zing 2.

They have a unique report on clean hits. They do not have the soft buttery feel of some of the newer clubs, but rather a satisfying "whack", kind of like taking a bite out of an apple. They are also eye catching. They look weird and everyone knows what kind of club you have. If that's not for you, get some Clevelands instead.

Bottom line: this really is a great set of clubs for golfers looking to improve their score, build confidence and hit the ball in a straight line. Cheers.

Got these Ping irons on eBay for approximatly 50 US$ two month ago -what a bargin. Nice clubs, easy to hit and very forgiving on miss-hits. But I suffered a dramatically lost of distance (about 15 yards)and distance control, which might be due to the shafts (Ping JZ steel-regular).

Moreover the feedback is not state of the art, its quit hard to get a "butter"-feeling, especially compared to forged irons.

As a result I have resold them and switched back to a more advanced iron set of forged Macgregors.

Customer Service

Great, not used on these Pings, but on my old ones (i3+). Shaft repair and color code adjustments free of charge.

I rarely play more than 5 rounds of golf a year. I shoot around 90. However, due to the quality of the club, people usually feel I play in the mid 80's.

This is an excellent club for golfers in the 70's to 90's. I come from a family of professional golfers, and they swear by it. I've seen my brothers play professional golf tournaments in Asia with Ping Zing 2. Hence, I disagree with people that feel Zing2 is for mid handicappers only.

They are the most versatile and easy to hit club. In order to work the ball, you need to improve your swing and practice with them.

With a faulty swing and no follow-through, I used to shoot 90. Now, with some lessons and more practice, I should shoot 80-85 on a regular basis.

I can't say enough about these clubs, and have had them since 1995.

If you can find a set, for anything below 300-400, grab them! You'll learn a great deal about your golf swing.

I've been playing these irons for 7 years now and still can't find a reason to replace them. Great feel workability. I get out of these irons exactly what I put into my game. I added the 61* lob, it's a must have. Possibly my only complaint would be that the ball flight can be too high at times. I'm sure this is partly due to my swing though. Let me know if you find a better iron...

Customer Service

Being able to register your clubs at Ping's site is helpful, also they matched a new lob to my serial numbers.

This is to add to my earlier review as I have put some additional rounds on these. I like them so much, I have sold my G5's and purchased a second set of Zing 2's. I simply cannot state it more clearly - these are the best iron I have owned, and I have played most irons on the market. They will never win a beauty contest, but what they have done for me can be summed up in two shots under pressure. Finding my drive behind a tree on a par 5 and needing to save par, and hit a punch hook 5 iron around the tree and up the right edge of the fairway to about 125. I then hit a 3/4 9 iron to within 15 feet, pin high, stopped dead. I was throwing darts all day and won my match by 4. Best round I have played in months. They are dead on straight. The JZ shafts are substantial and solid (unlike the CS-Lites they use now). If you can find a reasonable set, you will see what I mean.
