i3+ Blade
These clubs are OK, but just not my cup of tea. Because the shaft abd clubhead are so light, I just can't seem to get any 'umph' out of my swing. Had switched to these from some Titleist 681 Blades (don't get to play enough anymore to stick with the REAL blades), but LOST distance and control. Although these are called a 'blade', they still have a fair amount (if not too much) offset, and shoot the ball too high. Nice clubs, just think they are a step down from previous i3 model. Just switched to Titleist 690.CB for true forged feeling and Blade setup (min offset). Customer Service Never Used Similar Products Used: Callaway X-14 Pro Series, Ping ISI-S, Titleist 690.CB |

I won this set of clubs on Real Man Radio about 6 months ago. It was a dream come true. I have always wanted a set of clubs that were fitted for me and it really makes a world of difference. What I thought was a swing problem I had disapeared with a set of clubs with the proper lie. These clubs are too easy to hit. My only complaint is I can't bend the ball the way I like to but I'll give that up for this kind of overall accuracy. The distance control is amazing. |

Blade forged or cast iron feels almost the same only if you can hit them on the sweet spot all the time. I think ping i3+ blade is a little easier to hit well compare to a muscle back. The new shaft is very light. I believe they used true temper tx-90. If you don't hit the sweet spot 75% or higher get the non-blade. You'll enjoy golf more. The look is just ok. Ping I3+ Blade
Solid PING product. Upgraded from ISI's to the I3+ Blades. I special ordered them with the JZ Cushion STIFF shaft. The CS Lite was good, but just a little light for my taste. The JZ STIFF can be ordered at no extra charge and are very close to the DGS S300 specs. A great combo for these irons. These clubs are still forgiving for a "blade". Would recommend the blades only if you shoot under mid-80's consistently. Club face is smallish compared to TM LT and TA7's which were my other 2 options. The PING's just felt a little more solid and "meaty" than the LT's and the TA7's. The LT's would be 2nd choice. Customer Service PING. Enough said. |

Awesome clubs. I prefer a small club head, and these have a profile small enough for me to be comfortable with. Fitted with a regular flex shaft with the kickpoint set to lower my formally "HIGH" ball flight. Contact feels like butter on well hit shots, and you can feel the poor strikes without getting beat up. Easy to cut or draw with these irons. Love these clubs. Great look, better feel, and simple to align to the target. Only have had them for two rounds and a couple of range sessions, so I haven't yet learned all my carry distances yet. Ball flight is lower. Only thing missing is that crisp "thwhack" you get from hitting a true blade. But I'll gladly pass on that contact sound for the soft comfortable feel. Customer Service My club pro did the fitting in an hour long session. I like to fade the ball and got the blue dot with 1/2" longer shaft with regular flex. I'd always used a stiff flex (to extra stiff) but I was looking for a softer feel--tired of my hands being swollen and sore after a round of golf. Clubs were ordered on Monday afternoon and I got them on Friday afternoon of same week. Excellent! Similar Products Used: Tested MacGregor and KZG blades, Hogan Apex Blade and CFT irons. JUST GOT THEM AND THEY ARE GOOD. FITTED WITH STIFF CS LITE SHAFT. SOMETIMES I AM NOT SURE WHERE THE HEAD IS. GOOD CRISP CLEAN HITS AND SIT WELL BEHIND THE BALL. I DO FEEL AT TIMES I MIGHT HOOK THEM BUT WHEN I SWING I FIT IT GOES STRAIGHT OR SLIGHT FADE. I HAVE NOT QUITE WORKED THAT OUT YET. GOT VELVET V 50 GRIPS FITTED AS THE PING VELVETS ARE CRAP IN THE WET. I DID HAVE MIZUNO MP30S BEFORE THESE WHICH WERE GREAT BU I WAS NOT CONSISTENT ENOUGH AND AS I HAVE A BAD BACK AND IN THE COLD SCOTTISH WINTERS THESE WERE A BIT TOO HARD TO HANDLE. Customer Service GOOD SERVICE FROM THE SHOP BUT HAD TO WAIT TWO WEEKS MORE BECAUSE PING DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH HEAD IN FROM AMERICA. I switched to the steel shaft i3+ blades this winter after using the i3 OS graphites for two years. I have found the cushioned steel shafts to be consistent and vibration free. I hit these irons consistently sweet and do not have a problem moving the ball either way (a problem with OS). I got my handicap down to an 8 with the older clubs and feel very comfortable that I can shave another 2-3 strokes with the new ones. They aren't the prettiest iron out there, are not true blades but do an admirable job for me so far. With only five rounds and some pretty cool weather under their belt we'll see how they hold up over a season. Purists will not like these clubs because they are not classic in look or feel. However, the average golfer will love these sticks. Customer Service I have always had good service from Ping. I previously played with the i3 blade and found those irons to be oustanding. I changed to this newer model for two reasons 1) to go back to steel shafts from graphite and 2) to go to regular from stiff flex. The new Ping CS Lite steel shafts are excellent. I had some concerns about vibration as I have a touch of arthritis and also about the weight difference from the graphite to steel. I can honestly say that there is no significant detectable vibration with the steel and Cushin inserts. The steel shafts are about 10% heavier than the graphite. That takes a little adjustment but it is not significant. Overall, I believe that the steel shafts are more consistent, club to club, than graphite, with less twisting or torqing. Given my trial run with these irons, I would suggest that you strongly consider the steel shafts, rather than graphite, and save a bunch of money. The other thing I did was take advatage of the Ping custom fitting which was done at their center in Toronto. They do a very thorough job. You come away with the right lie and shaft flex. I have problems with a left to right on the long irons and so we fitted them one degree more upright than the shorter irons. The additional offset in the i3 plus 3, 4 and 5 irons has also helped me straighten out those shots. You pay more for Pings but you get custom fitted irons. The other noticable difference I found was the lower bounce on these irons versus the older i3 blades. I like to pick the ball and found these slide right through thin fairways. You will probably read some criticism regarding the lack of feel of these clubs. Some people like to feel the mis-hits in their teeth. I don't and these clubs won't give you that sensation. The real measure to me is feedback. I can tell if I've hit these it the middle, toe or heel. The overall feel is very solid. Customer Service Ping Fitting in Toronto were great. Had a Ping putter that was mis-behaving and they adjusted it for free. It's still mis-behaving so I guess it must be me! Similar Products Used: Tried various Ping, Titleist and Mizuno clubs. Also good in their own right. |
