Boy, i really thought i knew which clubs i wanted when i tried these clubs. Put my X-12's on Ebay and was ready to roll with these I3's. Despite the fact that they might not be the most beautiful clubs on the market, and the fact that i worry that my "MIGHTY" swing could cause the Custom Tuning Port to go a flying, I really like the blade appearance at set-up. I sure hit the ball a long way, but unfortunately in the wrong direction...up in the air instead of down the fairway!!!
I was supposed to have been custom fit, but i think i'll need to explore the fitting process because why do i hit the ball so far up in the air?????
I find myself reluctant to hit when i have the hill, cuz i don't know which club to hit. I need guidance from my "respected, experienced and knowledgable" playing partners (S. & C.).
I also find myself cussing and throwing my equipment more than ever...Maybe I should consider some Apex Plus' or BeCu Eye 2 plus'.
Oh well... I'll keep swinging these for the time being...It's frustrating though, because as much as I play... I should be a consistent 70's "PLAYA"...

I now play Ping isi irons with a metal shaft and I like them, but I think I would prefer the look of the traditional blade irons that I began playing golf with. I also think I would like to try the new fairway woods that are coming out this year. I have had a Ping isi driver but didn't like it because the swing weight was too heavy for me. I am a woman but play with men's clubs. I am playing with my third set of Ping irons at this time. I have always liked Ping products including putters.

I love these clubs. I tried the Titleist 990s and found the clubs to be too heavy which becomes a problem later on in your round. Originally, I was planning on getting the 990s as a replacement to my DCI Blacks. I also tried the Maxfli Revolution irons and liked them, but I found the distance was inconsistent similar to forged clubs. Note that the Revolution irons are cast clubs but feel like forged. Like forged if you hit them right they go along way but hit them wrong and you lose a lot of distance. They are more foregiving then forged. I also found it difficult to chip with the Revolution PW and SW, a complaint I've heard from other golfers. The Ping I3 Blades incorporate the best of both worlds. They're light yet very consistent and the clubs are custom fitted to your body type and swing. If price is a concern and you shoot in the low 80s or better, the Revolution may be the better choice. Price wise there isn't much difference between the I3s and the 990s. Overall, the I3s are the best irons on the market. Ping has the best golf technology going and these are the replacement clubs to the hugely successful Ping Eye 2s.

Ok, I'm excited. I just picked up my set of Ping I3 Blades and went to the range and boy did I smack them! Straight and long, and very solid at impact. I just got rid of a beautiful set of Ping Eye 2s which I learned to love over the years. My main complaint was the offset. When at the course or a local golf store, I would always drift off and grab a hold of a set of blades and think..."Boy do these look great at address!" But time and time again, I was steered clear of buying the blades. "Too hard to hit" and "Unforgiving" were the common reasons. I also would have had a hard time losing the Pings. SO, you can imagine just how excited I got when I heard that Ping was coming out with a blade. Well, these have been the answer to my prayers. The look of a blade at address, and the long and forgiving feel of my Eye 2s. In fact, they are a good 1/2-club longer than my previous set. Granted, I've only hit them for an hour or so, but if anything, I think that I will begin to hit them farther the more I get used to them. PLUS, I can now work the ball in either direction with much more ease than in the past. Not to mention that they are some of the finest looking sticks out there. With the recent aquisition of my Ping TiSI driver (see my review), I can't wait for the introduction of the new I3 metal fairway woods that are due in March of 2000. My set will truly be complete. So if you are in the market for a new set of sticks..and even if you are not...go check these babies out....you won't be sorry.

Model Reviewed: Ping i3 O-size

I play the Eye2+ now but recently got fitted for the i3. The 6 iron was the only club used for the fitting so my comments are based on that club. Of the two styles, I liked the O-size better, probably because it's more like my current sticks. The steels were also better than the graphites. The i3s are no better or worse than the Eye2+ in terms of accuracy and distance. They dampen vibrations better than the Eye2+ and they look a whole lot better. Much more square and easier to line up. It's the perfect club if you prefer a straight ball rather than trying to work it. The bottom line is I ordered a set.

These are really a great set of irons and I would have gotten them but instead I got the Titleist 990s. The Ping I3s are for someone who does not want to go to blades (Mizuno Pros) but does not want the offset of the game improvement club (Callaway X-12). They have practiacally no offset and a very solid feel when you hit it. The grips are also improved over the old ones on the Ping ISIs. Highly recommended. Also check my review on the Titleist 990s. Thanks.

I just demoed a set of I-3 blades and I love them. I originally wanted the o-size (because of the fear of blades), but after fitting and the pro watching my ball flight the blades were recommended and chosen. I already hit the ball high with a slight draw, that was the main reason he recommended the blades. I hit both types equally well...longer, straighter, and more forgiving than my old Spaulding Executives. I just hit the six iron for about an hour, however I am so excited about getting my new custom fit i3 blades in the mail.

Customer Service

I have never purchased a brand new set of clubs before and was impressed with Ping's fitting and help I got from the salesperson/club pro.

I was very excited when I first saw Ping's new irons; finally they've come out with an iron with less offset. I found the iron very forgiving for a blade club yet it offered a lot of forgiveness that most of us desire in a golf club. Also I hit the O size, this was a little more forgiving with quite a bit more offset. I would recommend this iron.

Customer Service

Ping has so many custom fitting options, they make clubs that can fit every golfer as well as anybody in the business. Also they deliver their product in a timely manner.

These irons are great, they feel really solid when you hit then, and they are very forgiving. They will make you look good when you know the shot you hit was bad. I do not like the JZ shafts that comes factory in them. So I had Ping WRX put the True Temper Tri-Gold shafts in, what great combo. The Tri-Gold shafts are a good mix between the Rifle Tour Flighted and the True Temper Dynamic Gold. With these irons I also picked up more distance with the same control. I use to hit 8 iron 150 to 160 yards with my Cleveland FF TA3, with the I3 I hit 9 iron now. I would suggest these iron''s to any mid to low handicapper, I just started to learn how to work the ball, a little draw here, maybe a little fade there. These clubs have made it so much easier to learn.
