Found a used set and decided to go back to a blade style after using cast perimeter weighted sets for about 10 years. I've been a 1 hcp for 3 years now, and still wondered if I could hit blades. Not just swing, ball go far, but swing, click, ball stop where it was intended. These clubs are a d3, replacing a d0. The lofts are weaker by about 2 degrees than the cast I was using. The shaft in the MP14 is an x, replacing a stiff. All of these changes, and I am hitting them more solid and the same distances that I did with the cast clubs. I was custom fit for my cast sets, bought these off a rack at a consignment shop. I don't know the physics of all of this, but I can swing smoother and not lose anything. The hit is more solid. I don't understand the 'like butter' references with blades, but solid is the word that comes to mind. Mis hits feel just like they should; I missed the shot and it ended up short of my target. I do hit these clubs more on-line than the cast clubs. My misses are short, not long, short, left, right. I agree with others, blades will make you a better golfer. My swing is tighter, dispersion is better, and the MP14s have helped me hit my driver better, too (overall better swing). My GIR is about the same, putts still need work. Scores are about the same, just a little more fun and meaningful when you do it with the blades. Good luck in your quest.

Absolutley the best iron I have ever hit. I'm completely against the saying that blades are for pros. The feeling you get when you strike one of these well is unforgettable. I switched back to my old cavity backs recently just for something new and they only lasted one round, I had to have my blades back!! Great club and a used set should be very reasonable if you look around. If I wear these out, I will be on ebay looking for another set.

I actually received a full set of the mp-14 iron's from my step-father. He's a player, no doubt about it. One of the best golfers I've ever had the privilege to know. He warned before using the iron's.. these irons are incredibly hard to hit. The sweet spot is also very small, so you must hit these irons precise. Very heavy headed club, very small offset. I've been playing on and off for about 11 years now.. I recently got a new IT job and have been forced to play business casual golf. I never knew exactly the caliber of iron i had in my bag. I just knew i had mizuno blades and they were forged. I was a decent golfer, i never hit them bad to begin with. Newer golfers may have trouble hitting your 6 iron n down.. Not a very forgiving club. When you learn how to precisely strike these clubs, and you'll know as soon as you strike these irons whether or not you hit it well.. You'll will enjoy these irons like non other. Heavy club head as mentioned is great. You take the club back slower, the weight of the club is enough on the downswing where you dont have to force the club to get the distance and feel you want. The club does the work. I've hit calloways, new and old ping zing orange dots. Ive hit many newer clubs, none compare to these. I still to this day, cant believe these irons were handed down to me. A rare delicacy in my opinion.. My old mans a golf fanatic, he wrapped these irons with WINN GRIPS's. They are absolutely beautiful..I show off these irons as much as possible. Truely a players club. Guys at the golf course ask me to hit these irons, n they cant hit them because their swing is sloppy. These irons will perfect your stroke.. I also would like to add, i have a titlest 983 driver, honestly its all i need.. I refuse to buy a 3 wood or any hybrid.. The 3 and 4 iron are plenty of club. I just recently played a par 5.. from the white tee's 565 yards. Drove under 300 somethin, I hit my 3 iron 210 n had a under a pw to the green.. birdie'd! I hit my pw 125 9-135 8-150 n up!

I have had my MP-14s for about 6 months now and they have improved my swing tremendously. These, at least for me, are truly game improvement irons. They let you know exactly where on the club face the ball made contact. When I first purchased these irons, I was impressed by the feel of a dead center hit, and the ball flight which was straight and true, plus soft landings because of the not-so-aggressive lofts. Mizuno came out with these in the mid 90s and the lofts are not as aggressive as the newer players irons (the 6 iron is 32 degrees) so the distances will be slightly shorter, but I haven't adjusted my lofts and don't plan to.

Another big plus to these irons is the confidence building aspect that comes in a couple of ways. First is the look at address. Several folks have commented positively on the looks of the club. They just look and feel like you should hit like a pro. I have played Big Bertha 2004s and was very inconsistant. The BBs have too much offset. The MP-14s have a slight offset of 1 degree which is hardly noticable. Second, because of the smaller clubhead size, it goes through rough very well. I don't know about you, but the larger clubheads of today have sort of the opposite effect on me. Instead of reassurance, I feel like I am swinging a shovel, as some folks say when referring to larger clubheads.
I will admit, on days when I am not feeling upto snuff, these clubs make you work for it. They are, afterall, blades. I will also say that of all the blades I have tried, these are the most forgiving. On days when you are on and all is clicking there is nothing better... very satisfying.
I had only been playing for about 9 months with no lessons when I bought these and I can't say how many folks tried to steer me away from blades, but if you want to improve , and fast, get blades, forged blades. It's like being thrown into the deep end when learning to swim... You can start swimming, or get thrown in with floaties and play an iron set that will baby you.
I was stagnating with my old cavity backs and now I am a bogey golfer. I really do beleive it is because of MP-14s. When I bought them they were far and above any other blade in the golf shop: Titleists, MacGregor VIPs, KZGs, Hogans, and Taylormades.
I have hit other forged blades since the MP-14s, and the ones that come closest are Mizuno MP-67s, and Titleist 695 MBs. Considering the fractional cost of a used set of MP-14s, they are definitely worth a try.

I shoot in the 80s. Forget the whole high handicappers can't hit blades. I'm only 14. The mis hits you lose a liitle distance and a little off course, but not much. You will know when you mis hit, but the club does not vibrate a lot. The clubs feel sweet when you hit the sweet spot. The sweet spot is bigger than you think. Theses blades are really easy to hit, but they are still easy to work the ball. These aren't as intimidating as everybody makes blades seem. I have lowered my score by a few strokes by switching to these. I can get the ball to stop quick on hard and fast greens. The only downside is it picks up sidespin easy and will draw or fade a little if you don't swing perfectly straight, but it comes back to where yo were aiming unless it was horrible. The clubheads also knick easy because they are forged. Bottom line, these are the best clubs iv'e owned so far.

At first I was not sure about blade irons, so I bought an older model, the MP-14. These irons are without doubt the most rewarding clubs I've ever hit, and provide the largest array of shot choices. However, they are also very unforgiving, so any mistake could be fatal to your score. Despite this fact, these would be great for the consistent ball-striker, and even better for the golfer seeking control of the ball.

First bought my MP-14 in 1996. Still playing them. They came with DG S300 shafts and quickly went and had custom fitted Rifle Shafts installed. (6.7 1/2"over) Over the past ten years they have taken my game from about a 7 hdcp down to a 0. Low round with them 6 under. Gooves are gone on some clubs. Shot a 68 with them this morning. I am not a "flat belley" any more at the age of 41. Would highly recomend these to anyone wanting to improve their swing and position at contact. The only down side is winter play (Southern California); you lose probably 2 shots in the winter due to thin lies and not excellent conctact at impact. Looking for new Mizuno clubs MP-32s are at the top of list. MP-14s have been a GREAT club for the past decade!

2I to PW, shafts DG300S, grips Golf Pride Tour Velvet. Bought used for $225 in great shape.

The MP-14s feel heavier than so-called modern irons, the heads smaller, the sweet-spot obviously smaller. The lofts are weak by today’s standards, the PW for example is 50 degrees, most current PWs are 45-47 degrees. This translates to less distance so don’t expect to hit the ball further especially with the mid-short irons. Having said all that...

The MP-14s are the best irons ever made. They are balanced exactly right, they look beautiful to the eye and perform exactly like a golf club should. The ball flight and shot patterns of the MP-14s will tip flaws in your swing, you can work on your swing with full confidence knowing that the tools in hand are perfect.

The ball comes off these irons like a bullet, piercing and true. As you become accustomed to them you will discover that the weaker lofts are only weaker by comparison with today’s clubs, the lofts are actually perfect in terms of how a set of irons are built to function. The drive for distance which has led manufacturers to strengthen lofts to the point of absurdity has rendered the modern long-iron useless. A generation of players did not suddenly lose the ability to hit a 2-3-4 iron, what happened was that the manufacturers jacked up the lofts and rendered the clubs unplayable. The MP-14 3-iron has 23 degrees of loft -- comparable to a modern 4 iron – and you will discover, to your delight, that you do not need a stupid overpriced hybrid, the MP-14 3-iron is built correctly and is therefore eminently playable. If you own a set of strong-lofted game-improvement shovels and cannot hit your long irons, you will be startled all to hell when you pick up the MP-14 3-iron, it may well become one of your favorite irons in the bag.

Lofts and distances: On cruise control I hit the MP-14 PW 118 yards, the 9-iron 132, the 8-iron 144, the 7-iron 156 yards. These distances were cause for concern at first until I realized how surgically the clubs perform. Once you establish the distances and consistently hit the sweet spot there is virtually no variance, eg the 8-iron flies exactly 144 yards on every swing.

The grips are Golf Pride Tour Velvet and FWIW I have noticed that all forged blades tend to play better with a firm grip of this nature. Winns and other softies feel mushy with blades, experiment for yourself, you might see what I mean.

I usually use a ProVx but bought a sleeve of Nike Ones to check them out with the MP-14s. The One is a firmer feeling ball with perhaps a bit less spin and seems better suited to the MP-14s – perhaps because Tiger uses Nike MP-14 clones and the One ball was engineered for him and his specs? Who knows, and yes I know that Tiger’s ball is not the One ball exactly but the point stands – the Nike One just ZIPS off the MP-14s. Yesterday in the wind I played a local clublink track, 6900 yards from the blues, slope 132, and shot a one under par 71 with the MP-14s and the Nike One. If you are using the MP-14s suggest giving the One a try.

Higher handicappers and the MP-14s.... I say go for it. Provided the shaft is the correct flex for your game, you simply cannot lose with these clubs. They are so beautiful and so wonderfully crafted compared to today’s overpriced game-improvement hunks of junk, you will not believe your eyes. You will understand what a golf club is supposed to look like, how a golf club is supposed to perform, you will receive unerring feedback on your swing and when you do hit an MP-14 iron flush you will experience nirvana and just never go back. These MP-14s are under lock and key, I will never let them go. Could not recommend more highly.

Just received my set off ebay for $160 last week. My first round with them was the best of my year, 82 on a difficult course. I bought them to hone my swing and use them as a teacher of sorts on crafting that consistent swing. I think they'll serve their purpose.

These clubs are heavy which is good and bad. Really helpful on the backswing to feel the weight of the club, however in my opinion more difficult on the downswing and impact in that so far I have found them difficult to create feel with so much weight coming through the ball. Probably I hope just a matter of time I guess. Also heavy due to S-400 sensicore shafts. Probably too much club for me right now, but I'm confident it will improve my game by tutoring my swing.
Lastly they look good in my bag.

Forget the myth that high handicappers can't hit blades. There are many reasons why one becomes a high handicapper. I have a few friends that are excellent iron players but god awful with their short game thus they shoot in the 90's. If you're a consistent ball striker then these are the clubs you want. If not then perhaps the game improvement clubs would be better suited for you because the off center hits do tend to send the vibration down to your feet. After 10 shots like that you'd want to put the clubs away. Feel is incredibly soft on good shots. Off center hits still go straight but the bone jarring vibration lets you know it. Distance is about the same. Last but not least you would be crazy to buy any clubs without trying them out before hand. Would you buy a pair of shoes without trying them on? How about a car or house? So why would you do that with golf clubs? P.S. I got mine for 180 off ebay.
