About 10 years ago I had a set of these clubs; 3 thru pitching wedge, that I bought used for 90 bucks. They had rifle 5.5 shafts, which I really liked, and I regripped them with golfpride velvet victory grips. Good draw clubs, went as far as my mp-14's and Hogan edge irons. Longish looking from heel to toe, not bad at all for 90 dollars. Fat shots are not forgiven at all, thin shots sting like a blade. More upright lies on these clubs, some might not like that in a tour style iron. I replaced this set with a used set of taylor made burner tour irons a few months later, which I also got for 90 bucks due to a bent

To date my favorite set of clubs. I built these with stiff shaft graphite (2.5 torque) . I am an acurate Iron player whose #1 requirement is feel and consistant ball flight. These clubs given me the feel and consistancy like no other club.

I've tried a number of irons and these are by far the best I've used. Assembled them myself using fenwick world-class flighted graphite shafts. I've owned Ping ISIs and TaylorMades, but these are straighter, longer, and just look good at address. Customer Service Golfsmith is always very helpful. |

GOLFSMITH TOUR CAVITY 2006
I have now used these irons 3 thru gap for 6 rounds of golf on a par 72 golf course and 75 has been the highest score. I always struggled with a little too much fade but these irons having a 1.5 upright lie have minimized my fade. I put in the new black gold true temper shafts stiff flex. I love these irons, I have had high handicap golfers try them and they were able to hit them quite well. Similar Products Used: nike slingshot

Tour Cavity
This February I got some 2005 Golf Smith Tour Cavity irons w/TT TX-Tour stiff steel shafts and Winn AVS grips ($280). They play well for my style. I come down hard on the ball and prefer a thinner sole. I have a slight draw and like to work the ball. These clubs just do what I expect them to, NO miracles. If you prefer a cavity/blade style iron and are a mid to low handicapper you may want to demo some of these. One weak point, common on most clubs of this style, they are soft. The faces are beginning to wear. The cavity is textured and can ding. Irons I also like include Titleist forged irons, Mizuno’s line, TaylorMade styles and Ben Hogan. Maltby(Golfworks.com) is another option for some custom fitters. I give these irons a 5 because in my opinion they hit like I expect them to and a 5 for value. Customer Service Never used Similar Products Used: Ben Hogan Radial, Titleist DCI 981 & 990, both great brands I would recommend to anyone! |

GolfSmith Tour Cavity 2005 with Harrison lite steel shaft in stiff flex and Golfpride tour velvet
This is the new designed 2005 tour cavity irons from GolfSmith. I had planned on buying the Mizuno MX23, but I read good reviews on the Tour Cavity. The specifications of the irons are similar to the MX23. The heads are cast, but the steel is the soft 304 type. I was immediately impressed with the overall look of these irons, but playing with them impressed more. The feel is solid, and working the ball with my normal draw was no problem. The clubs gave the sweet feeling of swinging themselves. As the PW is a strong 46 degrees, I have ordered a gap wedge bent to 51 degrees. GolfSmith rates these as Mid launch, Moderate forgiveness and Moderate Workability. I would say this is true and I would recommend them to Mid and low handicappers. In my opinion, value is outstanding. Customer Service I was custom fit from thegolfshed.com The service was superb. There was no hassle to ask for the bend of the wedge to 51 degrees Similar Products Used: Taylormade forged X-300 FCI Tommy Armour 845 Demo Mizuno Mx23 Demo Taylormade RAC OS |

Short but sweet...If you are used to oversize cavity backs then these will throw you off at first..Thinner top line and smaller head...Give em a chance and you`ll LOVE em..Great irons..They come from the factory(golfsmith) a little upright(1-1.5 degree) which should help somes tendency to slice...Great iron, instant feedback...For the money, definately the best I`ve had and we all know how many we`ve tried....As far as the play, forgiveness & feedback, these resembled the armour 845s(not in looks but in feel & trajectory).... Golf Smith Tour Cavity
Strength:

Weakness:
None I''ve got these heads in 2 through 9 and three Tour Cavity Pro wedges. All are on Rifle 6.5 steel shafts. FEEDBACK is the greatest thing I''ve noticed. These give forgiving results on miss-hits, but let you know you miss-hit it. Solid shots feel tremendous. That really improves your game. These clubs have taken me from mid to high 90''s into the 80''s (and my short game and putting are suspect at best). Customer Service Lost my Rifle shaft stickers and Golf Smith shipped me some new ones for FREE! Best company to work with of the 8 or so I''ve used. Strength:

Weakness:
None What can I say? These clubs have been with me for 2 seasons and have proved to be the bast performers and best blend of feedback, (consistant) distance, control and accuracy of any irons that I have used. They have out-lasted mizunos, Hogans, Taylor mades, Cleveland etc. They are great! When a shot is hit well the resultant ''crack'' is wonderful. What is also good about these clubs is that they are about 1 - 1.5 deg more upright than many clubs on the market. So if you feel that your shots tend to tail to the right on your shots these could help ( or at least not make the effect worse). I play my clubs at 5 iron 37.5 length. D3-4 swing weight, Shafted with Rifle 6.0 with victory 50th grips. I wish that I could give them more than a five. Excellent clubs, I am using 3 thur Pw with Tour series 52 & 56 degree wedges. Sets up really nice, but the lie is little upright from the factory. It has great feel and would definately pay more for these irons. I had a friend make the set for me with Dynalite stiff shafts and the accuracy and distance, and ball-flight is great.
