Cleveland LDI Irons

Cleveland LDI Irons

DESCRIPTION

The LDI Launcher from Cleveland Golf is a hollow hybrid driving iron designed to replace those "hard to hit" long irons. An extremely high moment of inertia and low center of gravity is created by positioning the weight low and deep in the club. These features combine to create a hybrid iron that is easy to hit in the air with exceptional stability at impact.

This club started my conversion to playing all Cleveland clubs except my irons (Ping i10s). I like hitting irons more than woods so I tried all the iron hybrids when they came out 6 or 7 years ago and the less-offset LDI easily won the simulator battle at Golf Galaxy over the Titleist 503-H, which is a decent club. My golf clubs are worth more to me than my 2nd car, and my 18 degree LDI with the fantastic (stiff) Aldila NV 105 shaft is the #1 club in my bag - I can't play without this brilliantly designed club. I mainly use it off the tee on shorter par 4's, and 9 out of 10 times I hit it dead straight, 240-250. It exudes total confidence at address. For a while I had trouble hitting it off the deck, but it just took some confidence building, and now I love hitting it from the fairway, too. It's much closer to being a driving iron than a hybrid though, and as I've read others say, it's not for everyone - you have to be a good, confident long iron striker to hit this, especially off the deck. If you like hitting your 3 iron off a tee, this club will give you a whole new attack weapon on shorter par 4s. The 105 gram Aldila shaft makes the big hollow head feel like silk. There is simply nothing else out there like this club, which replaces my 5 wood.

I´ve never been a good player with driver, fairways nor hybrids. My game is based in very long shots with the irons in my bag.

When I see this club in the "sales" bag of the shop for just 39€ (about 50$) I decided to buy it.

now I´m sure it´s been the best golf buy in my whole life. Log straight shots with very low trajectory... it´s almosts replaced the driver.

I can hit it consistently at about 250 yards (carry + ground)

I have all 3 of these and I am a high handicapper. I get the ball in the air, it goes where I point it.

I hit wood like hybrids thing to often and can't hit fairway woodes to save my life. These clubs let me hit something longer than a 5 iron off grass.

this is sweet... i needed a club for the 235yardage and this fits the bill perfectly... this thing is great for lower handicappers who want a little forgiveness but not lose much workability... i love this club and use it on short par4's, tight driving holes, and par5's... cant say enough about it love the club... this club is a driving iron so higher cappers beware this might not be for you but 12and lower have at it...

This is the first hybrid I have ever purchased and am quite pleased with it. I opted for the Adilia stiff flex shaft and a 21 degree loft (about that of a 3 iron). My delema was that I could hit my origional 3 iron about 220 yards and my 5 wood about 245, so I needed a club that would be good from 225-240 and this club does just that. Whats great about this club is that it gets the ball higher in the air off the fairway with more distance than a regular 3 iron, so shots into par 5's stay on the green and the ball has a better tendenct to stay online. This club is also very good off the tee, it has a slight offset which allows the player to play the ball further back in his stance to get a nice, low borring trajectory. I would not recomend this club to a higher (or even mid) handicap player. This is still an iron and plays very similar to a normal long iron, unlike many of the new hybrids which play like woods. While this may be easier to hit then your sets origional long irons it will be much harder than hitting another form of hybrid, such as the Cleveland HALO. This club still allows the player to work the ball in both directions and is great for tight fairways and windy days, for those players who like to hit a stinger shot. Overal, I am very pleased and this is a club that will stay in my bag for a while.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland LDI 18* Dynamic Gold Superlite S300

This is a very nice club, looks great at address, seems similar to a TA7 with some offset and a thicker topline, and very easy to align. It gives me more confidence over a standard 2 iron, which is now replaced by the LDI 18*. It is truly a player's club for those who like a 2 iron with a lot more forgiveness and the ability to get the ball up quick. The ball is absolutely hot off the face with a nice solid, firm feel. I had the tendency to hit my 2 iron fat, more than I would like. With the LDI, I can attack the ball steep or shallow and not have to worry about it digging into the ground. I chose to equip this club with a Dynamic Gold Superlite S300 to match my Dynamic Gold S300 shafts in my irons. I tried a few different hybrids (iron-like and wood-like) and the LDI seemed to fit my eye the best. There are some other great clubs out there similar to this one, but I recommend giving this a try. The LDI worked the best for me. Took me a few swings to get used to it, but now I have a club for tight tee shots and long approaches where distance and accuracy is crucial.
