First off, let me say i have played every forged iron known to man. i have settled on the callaway x-tour irons for 1 reason. They Rock! I mean, come on , I read all these reviews and all types of players, including myself try to play clubs pro's won't even play. With the x-tours you get the best of all the worlds. A forged clubs that looks good, feels good, and performs good. I konw they are a little pricey, but they are worth it if you can afford them. I played with these recently and played a 200 yard par 3 and hit a 4 iron on the toe and still hit the green. Anyway, if you consider yourself a decent golfer and like to play forged clubs, try these. I think you will love them!

These heads are smaller than what Callaway usually produces and look more manageable. I first picked out the 3 iron and noticed the weight. Let's just say you'll know where it is at all times through your swing. I like this aspect very much. Set the club at address and it seems flatter in the lie angle than the other Callaway clubs I remember looking at. The top line is thick, but nothing I can't get used to. The leading edge is rounded, but not too much and the sole isn't set with too much bounce. The sole isn’t overly wide either. There is a small amount of offset, which I really appreciated since I cannot hit offset clubs. The heads set square, and the balance of the club was consistent throughout the set. Swing- During the swing, the clubhead always has a presence. I do not loose the feel of the club at all during the swing, which I love. At impact, the feel of the club is wonderful. A nice click at impact let me know where I hit it on the face. Here is where it became tough for me the first time out. The forgiveness was unlike anything that I have hit before. I purposely hit these things all over the face, and the distance loss and dispersion was minimal throughout the set. This is exactly why I picked up the set in the first place. Callaway has managed to fit overwhelming forgiveness in a more players CB-like club. This is by far the most appealing part of the set and made them impossible to pass up. Unlike other reports that I have read, the clubs are very workable for me. I could move the ball left, right, high and low depending on the swing I put on it. Granted they are not as workable as some of the other clubs I demo’d or with blades, but come on, you can't get forgiveness like this out of a true players CB. The compromise is fine with me. Overall- A great cavity back that is still a great players iron. Very little offset, good forgiveness, mid trajectory and great feel. Callaway did a great job with its first attempt at a forging. A very solid club that I can’t recommend highly enough. An easy 5 out of 5 for a very solid set of sticks. Callaway has a winner here. If you want a players-like CB with all the workability and more forgiveness than most sets afford, these are for you.

After struggling the last 3 months with my irons, I decided to trade in my Mizuno MP 32 (2005 Golf Digest Iron of the Year) for these X-tour (2006 Iron of the Year). Hey, if you can't practice the game, you buy it. I just spent the afternoon at the range with the clubs so my assessment is probably prematured. I will compare the 2 clubs based on my early experience with the X-tour. Trajectory: X Tour >> MP32 ( 2 clubs different) Distance: can't tell (range marker is a bit off to start with). X Tour is probably a bit shorter if its flight is higher. Long Irons ease of play: X Tour >> MP 32 (I can hit the long irons again) Short Irons accuracy: MP 32 > X Tour (I need some time to dial in with the new irons. But the MP 32 short irons accuracy is hard to beat.) Feel of club head : X Tour > MP 32 (a bit heavier the way I prefer) Feedback: MP 32 > X tour (the feeling of flushing a forged blade is incomparable). Forgiveness X Tour > MP 32 (no doubt on this one. I will not go back to blade after the X Tour). Workability MP 32 > X Tour. Which is fine with me since I just want to hit them straight. In conclusion, my new job doesn't allow me to hit balls daily, which means my ball striking has been suffering. So moving to cavity backs seems sensible to me. I like the fact that the X Tour retains a lot of the player's clubs: less offset, smaller heads, clean set up, yet still offer the perenial Callaway forgiveness. Definitely worth the grand listed.

I demoed the six iron from the x-tour set and must say that i was not overly impressed. The club sets up nicely at address and has a solid look to it, but that is about it. The forged feeling was non-existent - it felt more like a tinny driving iron to me. Distance was average and the level of forgiveness was ordinary for a cavity back iron. I struggle to understand why so many callaway sponsored pros use them. I am good friends with numerous pros around the Sydney area and they all seem to agree with me. Get the x-18 ps - i recommend them and so do the professionals i know.

I really like this set of irons because of the forged feel and workability and the little forgiveness they give you on off-center hits. You don't have to hit these perfectly to get a perfect shot. However, they still give great feedback and workability. I switced to these clubs from the Big Bertha Fusion Irons that I used to play to get a little more workability and a little softer feel. Overall, I am pleased with these irons and will continue to enjoy their presence in my bag for a while.

Overall not very impressed with these irons. Distance was fine and forgiveness was okay, but they do not react well from tight lies due to the large rounded sole. If you are on wet courses all of the time, they would be okay.

These irons are the best made next to the Ben Hogans. Great feel, looks, and forgiveness. I own a 2-P and even the long irons are forgiving. When paired up with a Pro V1 or Tour Deep, these irons can not be out performed. The sweet spot is about the size of a quarter, but the "forgiveness zone" is twice that size. I live in Colorado and they still hurt like hell when you hit them wrong in the cold. Love'em anyways. P.S. These clubs are expensive, but if you have a grand lying around, put it too good use.

VERY VERY GOOD Irons!!! Great feel, good distance and good looks. Tossed up between these and the Taylor Made RAC LTII Irons. The only things that swayed me to the RAC's were that they went a little further and were $450 AUS cheaper. Both sets of irons are A Grade Clubs!!! It just comes down to personal preference and whether you can justify the extra wad of cash. Its no wonder that both sets are the two of the best selling sets of irons around. (They remind me abit of the Hogan Edge before Callaway(?) discontinued it - to make way for the X-Tour(?))

I had played Ping S59's earlier, and was at the range hitting. Got into a conversation with the guy hitting next to me that was playing X-tours. He let me hit his a few times, and after demoing them further I made the switch over. No, they are not pure blades, but they certainly give me a lot better feedback than the S59's did! I have played blades (McGregor & Titleist) in the past, and loved them, but these are simply a lot easier to hit than regular blades! I haven't noticed any difference in distance to speak of, but certainly have noticed a difference in feel and feedback. I suppose golfclubs are a lot like anything else, we all have our preferences. Some will like these and some won't, but I love them, and plan on keeping them in my bag for a long time! They are probably, at least in my mind, a bit overpriced, but I am happy with the performance.
