I have only played 2 times with these irons and I absolutely love them. I love the feel and forgiveness. The only thing is that I do feel that I'm losing some distance. I'm going to keep them !

I bought these on 6/24/09 and took them to the range. I did not need to take them to the course because they are definitely not for me. I currently play Titleist 990 irons and the Callaway's felt very clunky and heavy compared to my current set. I also found that the ball didn't seem to carry very far with the X-tours and I think it's because of the weight. They are beautiful irons and I wanted to like them more than anything but I didn't like them at all.

Bought these clubs about 6 months ago and I've never hit the ball as well. The cavity back makes them so forgiving so that off centre hits still fly most of thee way there. I know some people find that you can't work the ball to well with these clubs, but I find the ball flying straight is good enough for me! I found them quite a heavy club intially (compared my previous dci 990s) but this weight now just makes them feel like such a solid club.
Very nice design too, so over the ball the clubhead looks good at address (compared to other callaway designs). Strongly recommend this club to player of any level.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X-Tour Forged R300

I was looking for an iron which offered great feedback, feel and workability, whilst at the same time offered some forgiveness. My main goal was to buy a club that i wouldn't want to replace as I get better. I tested a variety of clubs before deciding that the X-Tour offered the best combination of the things I was looking for.

For me the forged clubs stand out above all others on well struck shots. On mis-hits some feel really harsh (e.g a thinned MX25 is like hitting a lampost with an aluminum bat), but the X-Tours let you know where you struck the clubface without stinging your hands. A well struck shot is just sweet. Unlike many forged clubs I tried, the X-Tours were quite straight on slight mis-hits and didn't lose too much distance. A bad shot is awful though, as can be expected from this type of club.

I have now played 4 rounds with these irons and I am already thinking more about my game. From the feel of my mis-hits I have learned to adjust myself to hit the clubface better. Even as a high-handicap golfer I am finding it easy to work the ball. Well struck shots are predictable, and I'm getting great bite from the mid to high irons when I hit the greens. I have instantly knocked 5 strokes or more off my previous best round (with my old clubs).

There are two things which stand out for me with the X-Tours. The first is that the clubs are so nice when hit well and not harsh otherwise, that they give me increasing confidence with each shot. The second is that I can't find anything that I would want to change about them. I don't think this is an iron for a complete beginner, but for someone who wants to learn to strike the sweetspot the feedback is amazing. The feel and predictability on a well struck shot is awesome, so I can see this being an even better club for low to mid hc players.

I used to be a scratch golfer, but with a wife, kids, and a job I get to play around 1 round per month. After 10 years of this, my handycap has risen to a 6. I used to play Wilson Staff blades, but as time has passed, being consistent with these was a challenge. The XTOURS basically are very forgiving, have a great feel to them, add distance (great as you get older). If you like working the ball, these might not be the club for you, but as I just love it when the ball flys where I am aiming, I really do not need to work the ball like I used to.

Overall, give me a range finder and my XTOURs and I am shooting in the low to mid 70's consistently...

I was a 15 h/c that plays EVERY saturday in my local comp and sometimes hit mid to late 70's but mostly hit mid to late 80's and had been using MacGregor m685 forged irons. These MacGregor irons are truely pure with shots that come "out of the middle" but as i am not a "touring professional" i cannot confess to being able to hit the absolute centre ALL the time. As a consequence i find that shots hit just off centre have the feeling of hitting a brick and the ball going virtually nowhere.
So after i accepted the fact that i am playing with irons that are better than my talent i decided that i should probably go back to a (much) more forgiving iron and i went looking. I tried many brands that included taylor made, ping, titleist, and mizuno. Now i must admit that i am one of those guys that wants the latest and greatest of everything in life and had my heart set on the mizuno's as i have heard all the scratch players at my club raving about the quality of these clubs but then i tried the callaways after the salesman suggested them. I have NEVER been interested in Callaway as i always thought they were the "rich person/poor player" clubs. I tried 3 types of Callaway and decided the X Forged were too unforgiving (like my current MacGregors) and the X-20 Tours were lacking in off centre feel. I must admit that they were beuatiful to hit but i had very little feedback. Then i tried the X-Tour and.........WOW!!!!!!!!! what a club.
I was shocked that a club could provide SO MUCH feedback but with consistant length even when hit just off centre. I was hitting them in the shop on the simulator and was calling each shot as i hit it and the salesman was confiming each and EVERY shot as i called it. The other surprise was that even when i hit it "off centre" i could tell but the distance wasn't as big a loss as my MacGregor's had been. So.......... i had to have them and bought them there and then and 2 days later (after having the grigs thickened and the lie adjusted) it was off to the range.
This would have to have been the best i have hit a ball since i was off 5 h/c when i was a teenager and the ball flight and consistency even with an average swing was astonishing.
Feel, control, balance everything was just superb.
I cannot speak highly enough of the forgivness of the clubs. I pulled my old MacGregors out just to compare one on one and the difference is night and day apart. The pure hits are similar but the Callaways have a higher ball flight with the same/very similar distance and land softer and often suck or very quickly stop on the greens. I have matched these irons with the X-Tour wedges in vintage finish 50, 54 and 58 deg which not only look great but have totally transformed my game around the green. A must have with this set of irons but i wont go into that on this review.
So to wrap up, if your game is improving and you want to take the next step to a forged iron but have baulked at the lack of forgiveness that forged irons so often bring, then look no more and go and try these amazing irons.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.
Word of warning though.........either leave your wallet in the car or have a healthy bank balance as you will want these after trying them.
My handicap has now gone from 15 to 9 and haven't hit over 82 since having these irons and this is only in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!
do i like them??????...............what do you reackon???????

Well lets just start by saying ive have these irons for about 5 months now and they have been the best iron play months in a long time

now onto the review they are nice looking irons and the chrome finish suits my eye well. For a players club they are quite easy to hit and the ball flight is just so pridictable.

in my experience i have gained 5-10 yrds on each club but the real factor that makes these irons stand out for me is that they are incredibatley accurate and have a very nice feel to them.

id reccomend these to anybody that wants to improve their irons play 15 hc and below.

Anyone who is interested in playing these clubs should know they are designed for lower handicapped players. Please dont put too much stock in people rating these clubs that shoot 97 after 4 days at the range, they may have an opinion but if you score low their opinion does not apply to you.

I just hit these clubs at the local shop, albeit into the net; however, with the S300 shafts i was grouping my ball marks inside a quarter on the face tape. This was not just with PW and 9 iron, every club! The feeling was amazing. You could almost begin to tell just from the hit whether you decelerated into the ball or caught it a bit thin. The swing with this set is very balanced and predictable. I also found that the clubs lines of the clubface and thin top offered extra confidence when setting up to work the ball and had a really good feel for those hits as well.

I am gonna pick up a set in the next week or two to demo at the range and I will update then.

Was looking to replace my aging Titleist DCI 990 irons, so after reading good reviews, I gave the X-tours a try. I was really not impressed. I can get used to the thick top-line, but the sole width was too much. They are straight, but a club shorter than the DCI 990s. I think most players who like a tour-caliber club may want to skip these. I'm off to try my new TaylorMade R7 TPs.
