I demoed a set of these this weekend, and was really impressed. While I had hit a few forged irons, I had not experienced the pure feel of a well-struck ball off a of a forged face on a course...they felt amazing. When I missed, they shocked pretty bad, but when a ball was struck pure, it was like I had hit a bubble instead of a ball. Sharp looking clubs, but quite pricey.

Just a great feeling club. The higher irons have the feel of blades will the middle and lower irons slowly move you into the forgiveness of the cavity back design. The irons carry the standard Ben Hogan classic look that I personnely love. I played Hogan Directors for years and found them to be just the best irons I have every tried. I got talked into trying a Ram Lazer for a short time then went back to the Directors as the Ram Lazer cavity back just didn't have the feel. Then I discovered the Apex FTX and feel like I've come home to the Directors again with some forgiveness on the long iron side. Just a great look with a great feel from a great company. A club you won't need to change in a year or two, unless your playing keep up with the jones's.

I got this set about a month ago, so I cannot tell the exact pros and cons. I'll just say what factors make this irons awesome. 1. Appearance : Not like Japanese products, American products are not known for their attractive appearances. I know there are exceptions. But FTX, and most of Ben Hogan products, it's a beauty. You'll be happy by just looking at them when you're at an address. 2. Feel : I tried almost all kind of irons on the market, and have owned a lot of them. Until I got FTX, I thought Mizuno MP32 has the best feel at good impact. Not now. FTX will give you an exceptional feel. 3. Trajectory : I little bit worried about strong loft of FTX, but no worries needed. Even #3 is very easy to make balls air-borne. And, oh boy this clubs are long. I cannot say if this ones are more accurate than others, durability, customer service, etc. I don't know if the stock Apex 3 shaft is from True Temper or not either. But shaft is good enought not to make me feel like changing to better one like flighted Rifle. Bottom line, if you enjoy feel and look of clubs when you golf (not only enjoying your score), U GOT 2 TRY FTX.

I have been using my Apex FTX irons with Apex #4 shaft since April ’04. I love the look of these clubs at address and how they feel when you make center club face contact. They are reasonably forgiving but the playability/versatility of this set is what makes them so awesome. I can hit the ball high or low with any club and on good days move the ball which ever direction (fade or draw) I need. The long irons get up in the air nicely and the mid to short irons are deadly accurate and assist you taking on the most ridiculously tucked pin. Since I purchased this set, my handicap has dropped from an 18 to a 12. Try them out, you will not be disappointed!!!

Great clubs! I used to play Cleveland TA5 and the two big differences between these forged clubs and clubs like the TA5 is the ball pattern and distance control. When you make a bad swing you may get a little stinger but the ball usaully flies on a very tight pattern. The TA5's (and most game improvemnt clubs) would always feel good but the club was so hot that any push or pull would fly way off line. Regardless of how the shot was hit or feels, the FTX's usually go about the same distance every time. Bottom line is misses do feel bad but they end up in a good spot. When you hit it good it is so pure. Every 12 handicap or below should be playing with this type of club IMO.

A nice blend of irons. The short irons are extremely accurate. With the long irons the ball sometimes comes off hot and goes farther that what I'd expect. I'm very happy I got these.

Following up from my previous review. I have now had these irons coming up to a year. I have now improved to a 7.3 handicap, and some of that is definately down to the irons. They really make you put a good smooth swing on it - and as others have said they are certainly not as forgiving as some out there. That said, when you do hit them out of the sweet spot it is the sweetest feeling you'll ever find from a golf club. I even find hitting the 3 and 4 irons a pleasure now - an uphill par 3 of 178 metres (195 yards) I hit four iron into the wind and was at the back of the green..!!!! And as for the rest of the set, fantastic. And the "scoring clubs" 8,8 & E (pw) are beautiful blades which spin the ball well and are incredibly accurate. Mine have the Apex 4 shaft (firm) and I also had the lie checked - actually spot on out of the factory - about half a degree upright..!!!! In short, if you are a better striker of the ball - 10 handicap and below - get these clubs.....

The short irons are great.I have a little trouble getting the 4 and 5 up in the air. The trajectory seems flat compared to my MacGregor PMBs. But on long par 3s where I can tee it up they are superb. Very handsome set of irons.

Phew! Im glad i found these clubs, i was tired of playing blades and getting frustrated. Id rather have a little forgiveness on the long irons. Im not gonna lie, i cant work the ball as well with these clubs. But it takes just a little more effort, and the long irons dont produce as much spin, but i dont rele need to spin my 3 adn 4 irons.

OK, OK....I read everything, tried everything, talked to everybody who would listen, spent time on forums, compared my style of play with others, talked to golf teachers...all to try and find my next set of irons. I haven't purchased new clubs in almost 10 years. Seems like a long time but my game has steadily improved and I've never thought about it until my wife said she wanted to get me new clubs for our anniversary. So, I started the arduous but remarkably fun task of searching for a new set of irons. I paid $250 to get professional 3-D analysis of my swing, launch angle, blah, blah..(took 3 hours). And out of it, I told them the clubs I liked and was considering and they recommended the Apex FTX and the Mizuno MX-37. I hit them both, liked them alot but opted for a great Ebay deal for the Hogan's with the EXACT upgraded shaft TT S300's. So I get them, go out to the range and OH MY...I hit the first 25 balls about 6 inches off the ground. I literally cannot get them airborne!!! I am thinking I made the biggest mistake of my life. I stop for a second and realize that I've never played with clubs that are not offset (or at least a little in this case)...my last set of Goldwin's are tremendously offset. SO...I start to relax, I start to think of all the stuff about a swing I've always read about but never worked with my old clubs...THEN it happened. Slowly but surely...shot, after shot...the sweetness of forged Hogan's. Oh my, oh my...I had no idea what I have been missing. I've been a straight ball hitter for 20 years...now I'm fading and cutting the ball at WILL! Honest, it is just SO SWEET. It's only been on the course 3 times but I think I could play with these clubs for a very long time. They are NOT forgiving...so don't think that you can just hack away with them but there is nothing sweeter than the moment of perfect impact and ball flight. BUY the CLUBS... I bought mine for $525 but priced them out as low as $749 NEW. Hit 'em hard!
