Bought these three months ago and now feel ready to review them. Bottom line is, these are fantastic irons. I was looking for something that would give me feedback when swinging badly, so I could tell what I'd done wrong- these deliver, but miss-hits aren't punished that much- just a little shorter. The feel when you hit them from the sweet spot is absolutely amazing- smooth and soft. I recommend these irons for anyone who can put a half decent swing on the ball- probably from 18 down. I have the 4 flex Hogan shaft which suits me just fine. Ball flight is lowish, but I can work the ball well with these, without bending myself in half. They look great, and so long as you're comfortable with the thin top line (they look like blades at address), you'll be fine

I bought these customized to my specs, 1 degree upright Apex 4 standard length, etc... Bottom line the best I've ever hit. The 3 and 4 iron are remarkably easy to hit and the entire set is just flat out pure. Every club feels solid and are just really a work of art. Get these set up to your own specifications and you can't go wrong.

A Nice weight on these clubs, with a traditional look and feel. They hit beautifully, and allow me to concentrate on placement; that has improved my game by many strokes!

Excellent irons! Plain and simple. Easy to hit and very consistent. Shafts are the 6.0 flighted rifle, which is the only part I'm not sure of. The amazing thing about these clubs is the increased carry distance. The clubs ding up easily in the bag, which is nothing new with a forged club. I originally ordered these clubs from a local golf shop. I was so unimpressed with their service (did not call me back after talking to them 3x for the same thing) that I cancelled the order. I found the same thing (specs and all) on E-Bay the next day saving me around $400. The only club I've hit that I like as much is the Ping S-59. Try that too!!!

After a year of searching for new irons i may have found the most versitle irons i have ever played. They give you enough game improvement in the mid and long irons and when you get down to the shorts, well lets face it anyone can hit a blade 9 iron. Eventhough ive only been playing for 3 years ive tried irons from all the major companies. finding that my ballstriking eventhough needs a little work is the strongest part of my game at the moment. with these in the bag i think it can only get better. And when you combine the look of these beauties with the feel you get when you make a good swing, there is nothing like forged irons struck properly. I would recomend these irons to anyone who is a decent striker of the ball, now i only need to learn to putt.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Apex FTX True Temper Dynamic Gold Lite R300

I purchased these clubs with the standard Apex number 4 shafts. I was wrong about them being firm. They are, in fact stiff. After quite a long trial I concluded that the shafts were too stiff for my swing speed (which is between 79 and 84 mph). I had them re shafted with True Temper DG Lites in an R flex. The feel of the clubs has been consdierably altered. They feel lighter which has possibly bought me a couple of extra MPH without having to swing any harder. The mid kick point shaft gives a nice penetrating flight and I get a better release due to the softer flex. If, like me you are a) getting on in years (I'm nearly 48) and b) you don't have a fast swing - this is a modification I can recommend.

Clubs re shafted by Graham Tonge of Frodsham. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of his analysis, advice and workmanship.

This is an update on my orginial review. I have now played 10 rounds with these clubs and my initial findings still hold good. Sadly my reservations about the satin finish on the back of the clubs (especially the blades) were well founded. They mark up very easily so I would invest in some quality head covers If I were you. Some further observations. My best results have been obtained my slowing down my swing quite substantially. This may seem at odds with the fact they have firm shafts but I have found a real increase in distance and accuracy by slowing down to what feels about 75% of my original swing speed. I suspect that this reduction was necessary anyway its just that my old CFTs were much more tolerant. Normally I hit a wedge about 110 but am now finding an extra 10 yards of carry (not just carry and role). I have no regrets about buying these clubs.

classic looks with pw-8 blade and then the rest small cavities, these irons are fairly easy to hit even if you had cavities before like me, they are very soft feeling due to the forging process. Distance wise they are about the same as my cavities when hit well. It it is very easy to shape shop and as a result knockdown shots, soft chips, high and low draws are possible with a bit of practice. I got these for £165 on ebay, they were 2 months old but very good condition overall. I would recommend these irons for mid to low handicap golfer, i play of 14 and after a bit of practice they are fairly easy to hit compared to my cavity backs

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Apex FTX no 4 shaft (firm)

Before getting these clubs I was using Hogan Edge CFTs which I was very satisfied with except that they hit the ball too high for my liking. This may be fine for sunny Florida but not much good for an exposed course in England where the wind is a constant factor. So I purchased a set of Hogan Apex blades (1998 vintage). Well it was a case of hope over experience. I was not quite good enough to hit then consistently. The scoring clubs (8,9 and wedge) were fine but the long and mid irons were too unforgiving. Then a set of brand new FTXs became available. What a difference!! The mid irons are much easier to hit but still give excellent feedback. They are not as forgiving as the Edge CFTs but are no where near as penal as the blades. The short irons are very good giving a soft feel which enhances my touch round the greens. They are more responsive to changes in set up allowing me to keep the ball low when the wind gets too strong. I can work the ball in either direction but as a 15 handicapper obviously consistency is still an issue. It is a very easy to overdo the set up changes and end up with a banana slice or a smothered hook. One interesting point is that although the blades and the FTXs have the same flex of shaft the Apex shafts are somewhat harsher. Whilst they are more demanding to hit than the CFTs they are not so unforgiving to dent your confidence and certainly open up more possibilities for creative shot making. As with all Hogan products they appear to me very well made and are visually very attrachive. They set up behind the ball very well and the thinner top line makes alignment very easy. One question mark is the durability of the satin finish on the back of the blades and the cavities of the other irons. Time will tell. I am very satisfied with these irons and don't see me changing them for a very long time. They are clubs that will allow your game to evolve.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Apex F.T.X shaft#4

First of all, I think this iron set is the most beautiful golf set I have ever seen. This club is very very appealing. Frankly, I cannot take my eyes off this club. It was like "Love At First Sight" when I saw it at my local golf shop in Thailand. I am a 9 handicaper. Before switching to this sword, I had used Mizuno mp30 for almost 2 years. That set is a very good golf set too. However, I found that its shaft was too soft for me. Thus, I decided to give it to my brother. After that, I started looking for something new. Definitely, Ben Hogan Apex F.T.X. was the first choice coming up on my mind....Even though this set is relatively pricy, I could not help my self buying it. After testing the whole set at a driving range, I can say that this club is really awesome. The feeling I got from this club is unparalleled. It's soft like butter, but very very solid!!!. I gaurantee that this club offers better feeling than MP30 does. Moreover, this club offers amazing distance. Normally, my average distance for 7 iron is 160 yrds. With this set, I can hit 7 iron for around 170 yrds very easily. I lose a little distance when I did not hit the sweetspot. For the accuracy, I can pinpoint the ball with this club. 9 out of 10 balls I hit were straight and dropped on the same spot at the driving range.!!!!! All in all, I am veryyyyyy impressed with this iron set. I am so glad to know that I made the right decision. Before that, I thought MP30 was the best. But now, I completely changed my mind because I know that this club is truely "THE BEST". PS: In my opinion, I think this club might not be suitable for high handicappers. For middle and low handicappers, I highly recommend this club. Trust me, you guys won't be disappointed with this set.
