The best feeling irons on the market. I have used Mizuno's for probally 15 years now. Mainly becuase they were the best forged irons around. My Pro told me about these and told me just to give them a chance. WOW. They feel great. Long and so easy to work the ball. I do not recomend these unless you are at least a 12 or under though. Not easy to hit. Overall best irons i have ever played.

I have been using these weapons for 18 or so months. I do not class myself as a golfer...more someone who likes to have a game. Before these i was using some Big Berthas and foung they were too 'chunky' for me and i lost all confidence. My pro told me that the BB's were too short for me and suggested that i try some longer clubs (2" longer and 2degree upright). after tests with TaylorMade Blades and some cavity backs i decided on these as thet were more consistent with my swing. The first time i played a full round i was 10 shots better on the same course!! I class these as game improvement irons. My philosophy is that if you hit these badly, they tell you! If you hit them well you are on top of the world as the feeling is superb. I love the short irons as i constantly hit the well, the longest iron (3) im still trying, that might have to do with the fact that i am crap!!!!

I am an 18 and not particularly long. These irons are the best I have ever played. They are one club longer (I have graphite shafts regular). The feel is amazing, when you hit it pure you know it since you feel nothing, you only hear the click off the club face. I would recommend these irons to all. They have a great look and I agree with the others that the muscle back clubs 8 thru wedge are outstanding. My game has improved since I got them.

I first play hogan irons in '98, the Edge Pros. Since then nothing has come close to the feel and performance of the Apex "players" clubs. I got my FTXs and immediately reshafted with flighted rifle 6.0. WHAT CAN I SAY.... Everytime you pure one of them, you get chills down your spine. Without even looking up, you KNOW where the ball will land. Outstanding. I played the TM LT2s, Titleist 690s and Mizuno MP30's, and only the MP30's come close. But nothing matches the feel of Hogan irons. Distance is perfect and playability is excellent, specifically with the blade irons (8-e). I'm glad I upgraded the shaft, 'cause I cannot ask anything more out of ball flight. Callaway should sell Hogan to a company willing to market such top quality clubs, since they refuse to do so. I'm sure if Hogan had money to pay pros, their door would have a line up a mile long.

As with all Ben Hogan irons (and not with woods or putters!), these FTXs are pure quality. If BH had a higher budget, more tour players would be playing their irons.

It is nearly impossible to explain the feeling of puring a BH iron, but I will try! It is effortless and as smooth as butter. The trajectory is lowish (on top of the stronger lofts) and the spin is perfect. Even lower quality balls stop obligingly on long irons. They are perfect clubs for more exposed golf courses where the wind is strong and changing. Forgiveness is higher than the older model (Apex Plus, Edge Pro), but still demanding. This is most definitely still a player's club. If you don't really know what that means, these irons probably aren't for you. They also maintain a good degree of workability.

As I mentioned, the lofts of these irons are strong. My only complaint is that I may have to buy a gap wedge. Whereas most pros play 48PW, 54-56SW, and 60LW, you might need to put four wedges in play with these irons: 46PW, 50-52GW, etc... These clubs are also slightly shorter than most of the competitors, though my old Apex Plus' were the same way, and I didn't notice any problems with them in terms of length.

Customer Service

Since Callaway has purchased Ben Hogan, the customer service has been a little detached. It feels as though Ben Hogan is no longer a top priority for the Callaway company.

I have never posted a review of anything before, as I feel it unnecessary. I do however feel that people should know how nice these irons are. I have played the TM 300 irons for about 4 years, but have tried other clubs just for fun. I always came back to the TMs b/c of their exception feel over these others. I have been toying with the idea of Pro Combos as I've hit many a ball with a close friends clubs. Something always held me back (cost?). I have finally bought the Hogan FTX irons, which I think are one of the best feeling clubs I have hit. These are not for high handicappers, but any single-digit/low teens will appreciate these. They can be bought new, or slightly used for great prices on e-bay, which helps the value rating. The feel of an off-center hit is noticeable, and a pure hit is amazingly soft, which allows for nice feed-back.

For anyone with half-decent ballstriking ability (probably less than a 12 handicap) then I think these are fantastic clubs. The FTX's feature a small, progressive cavity in the 3-7 irons, with muscleback blades in the 8-E (E=pitching wedge in Hogan speak). This combination truly offers the best of both worlds - forgiveness in the long irons and ultimate shot-making capability in the short irons. Not only do they look fantastic, they really do the business. The feedback is exceptional and the feeling from clean strikes can only be described as pure butter. This feedback will actually help improve your swing as you know exactly where on the clubhead you hit the ball - unlike many of the "oversized shovels" that pass as golf clubs today. Distance is good, control is great and they put tons of spin on approach shots. These clubs are in more of the pros bags than you might think - for example Thomas Bjorn uses them and he is not alone. The FTX's were the first of the new Hogan clubs to be made following its takeover by Callaway - if anything the quality has improved while remaining true to the great traditions of the Hogan brand. Before buying these earlier this year, I tested virtually every decent club on the market and I can honestly say these are the best clubs out there.

All I can say is WOW! The nicest looking, playing, and feeling clubs i have ever hit. I have tried various other brands, including 1985 vintage apex blades, but none are as directable, predictable or enjoyable to hit. I used to play at least 4 rounds a week with my first starter set of Callaway knock-offs until i was 13 then took about 8 years off as a serious golfer. My grandmother bought me this set this summer so I can start playing again. I am by no means a scratch golfer, but with these clubs and a little bit of patience and concentration i have been able to shoot under 80 more than a few times this summer. Very high ball flight with a ton of spin on and around the greens. the long irons are forgiving and very fun to hit, while the shorter irons allow you to stick it close.

I have had these clubs for about a month now. Coming from Big Bertha 04 irons, these were shocking at first. But after I got used to the thin top line and the smaller head, my scores went down. These irons force you to be precise. Mis hits sting but the still travel pretty well for a player's club. The feel on a solid shot is unbelievable, it's like hitting a marshmallow. The long irons are pretty easy to hit but I am considering a sonartec md 3 hybrid just for the versatility. Overall this is a fantastic set of irons.
