Model Reviewed: cobra SS strong 3 wood

Fell in love with the 427 driver, so thought I'd give the new Cobra strong 3 wood a try. Glad I did, though it was a bit hard to say goodbye to my old Calloway Warbird 3 wood. The Cobra strong 3 sets up square, unlike the driver, which has a 2 degree closed face. Like the driver, it has an excellent stock shaft, very light, and generates good swing speed. Like the driver the face is very hot, and so you get excellent lift off (I get slightly higher trajectory with my new cobra 13 degree than my Warbird which was 15 degrees of loft). It only took me a couple of weeks to find the groove with this club (unlike the driver which I could nut from the very first swing). The ball has a nice, tight dispersion--accurate club--with a very penetrating ball flight. And is excellent both off the deck and off the tee. I haven't noted that much gain in distance off the fairway compared to my old Warbird. I have about a 105 mph swing speed with my fairway woods, and both go about 230. But when I hit the Cobra strong 3 off the tee however, big hits now go about 260--which seems unreal to me. The other great thing about this club is its cost--and at 149 retail (and less on Ebay) its a steal. Only complaint about this club--like the Cobra 427 driver--the original head covers (though beautiful) were poorly designed. But even here, there's good news (see "customer service").

Customer Service

Customer service has been outstanding. When I emailed my complaint about the headcovers, I got an immediate reply to the effect that an improved headcover was now available, and that I was being sent one free of charge--which arrived just a few days later.

Tried this club at a driving range. Im 13 and have a 80-85 mph swing so I tried the regular flex. First shot , my worst, a dead straight 160 yds. I hit about 15 balls and it just got better and better. My longest was about 190-200. EXELLENT CLUB! I'd recomend it to any one. I found myself an new Christmas gift. Launcher came dead off the club very unsatisfied with the launcher. At $150 thes is a great steal.

Long hitting, great looking, SWEET headcover. I have the 5 with a Stiff shaft. Love the Aldila... thinking about popping one into my VFT. Club launches high boomers, about 215 yards from a tee or the deck. Best deal in pro-line clubs.

Model Reviewed: 3 wood

Bought the 3 wood with the stock regular shaft. At first, I had a difficult time hitting it straight, but then I realized that the stock grip with reminder rib was setting face closed. Changed the grip to a Golf Pride Tour velvet wrap round grip and presto problem solved. This club is very solid. I'm hitting it about 15 yards farther than my Taylormade 3. The flight is medium trajectory and boring. It has a great sound at impact. More of a crack----nothing tinny about this club. My driver swing speed is about 95 mph and the regular shaft seems just right for me. I've tried the Taylormade 200/300 series and the Titleist 975Fs. In terms of performance and value, this is sure hard to beat. The only negative comment I have is about the headcover. They should shoot the designer!

Model Reviewed: Cobra SS Hyper Steel 3 Wood

I recently bought and love the 427 SS driver and decided to giove those par 5s a shot in 2 by rounding out my long game. I've never been good with the fairway woods, but decided to bote the bullet given that my new driver was opening up previously unavailable opportunities. I just picked the three wood up after several sessions of hitting it side by side with the Taylor Made 200 Steel (graphite shaft stiff). Both clubs were good, but I seemed to be more consistent with the Cobra overall and I was better with it off the tee. Enhanced tee performance probably was due to the Cobra's deeper face. I bought the regular flex shaft although I also hit the stiff flex cobra. I got better performance with the regular flex shaft, which makes sense as my swing speed for a 5 iron (steel shaft) is in the low to mid 80s. This version of the club has no offset, but I still tended to hook it when I mis-hit it. This is likely due to my swing. The club face is deeper and larger than the TM 200, which for a high handicapper like me inspires confidence. I was a little worried that the relatively higher club face might be tough to hit off of the deck, but I got great performance off the mat. It remains to be seen how it will perform on the course -- particularly out of the rough, but I am optimisitic and will update this review when I get some real data. Lastly, the value is absolutely stupendous. If you're at all price conscious the list price is $150 (graphite) and you can probably find it for less. I'll be interested to hear feedback from others regarding performance out of the rough.

These want to go long and straight. I use to play my low Irons off the fairway but recently started using the fairway woods. Man these just sail. On a good hit the 3 wood will go 200+ yards and I am not a big swinger.

Model Reviewed: Cobra SS 3 wood (15.5)

What a great club! I had just bought the Cobra 427 driver and have been hitting the best tee shots of my life so I wanted to try the new Cobra fairway woods. What a great club! Straight and long. Great sound with a clean hit. The ball bores through the air and then gets good run. Have had equal success both off the fairway and the tee, and you really don't have to swing too hard - just make clean contact and you're in business. I had been using a Hogan 3 iron (for the control) for most of my long approach shots because I had some bad experiences with not being able to consistently hit fairway woods in the past. Because my experience with the Cobra 3 wood has been so good, I will soon be getting the 5 wood. And for an MSRP of $150, it's the best value you'll find. In short, buy this club! You'll love it!

Model Reviewed: Cobra SS 5 wood

This club is just too long, I was looking for a 5 wood that would give me about 220-230 carry, but with this club I hit as far as my taylor made 200 series 3 wood, about 240-250 carry. This club also hit the ball hot not a lot of back spin. Today, I used it on short par 4 and when the ball stayed in the fairway, I hit it about 260-270. This is just too much distance for a 5 wood. Considering getting the 7 wood instead. Plus it is a very forgiving head maybe too much forgiving and the light shaft maximizes my swing speed. I find it almost impossible to work a draw with this club whereas with the TM I could easily work it both way. Just for fun I might demo the 3+ wood version of the cobra to see if I get incredible amount of distance. And at this price it is a steal.

I've never been a solid wood player - always gone with the irons when I could. This 5W is spectacular. It has a deep enough face for me (but that's obviously subjective for every one of us). It is very forgiving, and I've even hooked a couple here and there, which normally isn't a good thing but I'm a slicer through and through! I've got the Stock R-Flex shaft, and if it weren't for the Cleveland Launcher 3W I bought recently I'd probably get the matching 3W!
