There is a reason why these clubs were rated the best fairway woods by Golf Digest. Because they are just that, the best!

Steelhead III with Pro Vista Shaft
I loved the Steelhead Plus woods and carried them for years (stock shafts). All I had to do was hit these once to put the Plus' on Ebay. These are as sweet as I have felt, and I will never not use them (for now). My confidence with these is WAY up and I love pulling them out of the bag. Customer Service What for? Just hit it. callaway steelhead 3 5 wood
Have always been a 'big hitter' and loved using the driver off the tee and getting a really 'good one out' (normally hit over 300yds) but found that Ive never won a comp when using my driver as often as not, the 'good one' is followed by a couple of 'bad ones' stuck in the rough or somewhere round the ladies tee(sound familiar?). At the range, an old boy was popping them out in the next lane and came across for a natter, said to me - you hit a big drive but do hit your fairway wood well, ever thought of using that in a game and leaving the driver at home? Next game thought Id take him up on his subtle suggestion....left the driver at home, kept a full set of irons in the bag, along with the 5 wood--result on 9 holes--my lowest no. of strokes ever!! off the tee used the 5 wood (distance 230 - 260yds--more than enough) or a long iron...never missed a fairway!! Now I ignore the peer pressure from my playing buddies and use the steelhead 3 5 wood off the tee instead of their huge big 425cc drivers and tend to hit as far as most of them without worrying too much about rooting round in the long grass for a lost ball---this last week saw the open in liverpool england which is nearby, guess what--the greatest player of our time used his 2 iron off most tees....Its enough to say that if you want to improve your game, dump the driver, get this 5 wood(really really great ball flight) and use your brains not your testosterone!! I have a full set of the steelheads but find that this 5 wood hits almost as far as the 3 wood and is easier--give it a go, glad I did....hey, saves on having a bag full of different length tees aswell...

Steelhead III 5 Wood
Whenever I'm not striking the ball well with my driver (Callaway Hawkeye Pro Series 8.5), I leave it in the bag and go to the Steelhead 5 Wood off the tee box. Actually I always hit off the deck, regardless of if Im teeing off or not. Point being, Im not patting myself on the back..its just a great, forgiving fairway wood. I hit it 230-250 consistently with a nice draw every time. It has a System III graphite shaft. The ball comes off really hot and seems like it might get stuck in the air. The funny thing is that I use the simplist swing for this club, and have the best results. It is extremely forgiving, and it sounds and feels great when you connect. If you stand over your ball and really stare it down with your fairway woods, get one of these Steelhead 5's, and see how it feels to outdrive your buddies with their 400+cc drivers. Steelhead III Fairway Woods
I purchased the a three wood off of ebay for $50. I have used many Brand Named fairway woods but none with the solid sound and penetrating trajectory as this 3 wood. I'm out-hitting some of my buddies that use drivers on some holes to reach the dogleg. I liked the 3 so much that I purchased a 5 and a 7 wood as well. They are my 3 favorite clubs in my bag. I've been tempted to buy a used Steelhead driver eventhough they are only 225cc. If they hit as well as the fairway woods then I wouldn't mind dropping about 200cc to see a consistently straight and long drive. Two weeks after I got the 5,7 wood I turned pro and played a round with Phil Mickleson. I out-drove him on 12 of the 18 hole and beat him by two strokes. Later that day I choked on a big cigar and died. Customer Service None Similar Products Used: Callaway Big Bertha Irons |

Steelhead III 3 wood
This is a great little three wood. I like it better than the GBB II because it can be hit from a tee or on the deck. I played a round with it today and belted a couple of 260 yard drives. I made an eagle on a par 5 went driver, steelhead III to within 3 feet on a back pin. I love the trajectory (very boring ball flight off deck) I almost like hitting this more than my driver because a great drive looks and sounds so sweet. That "tink" sound is pleasing to the ears. Wonderful club!!! |

steelhead III strong 3 wood steel shaft
Was looking for a 3 wood that is easy to hit, goe miles and is easily shapable. This club is is i hit about 250+ of the tee and i can get about the same out of it of the ground, steel shaft is just the stock but is good enough and soft enough to shape on tight dog leg holes, has a good trajectory off the deck and is super forgiving with off center shots, shots will go just as far either way, i would suggest to get a new grip but obviously horses for courses and all that. All in all this club can be used by anyone and everyone personal preference would say go for steel but am sure the graphite is just as good. I have the 4, 7 and 9 wood in my bag vs. most people's 3/5/7 combo. It's a matter of not needing 5 wood and really having fallen in love with the 9 wood (Vijay carries this same club). My standard shot pattern is a draw and these woods are easy to draw. Those prior reviewers who seem to have difficulty doing so are encouraged to take lessons. Fading them is not that hard either. Simply apply technique. Considering that there is some additional weight in the heel, I am surprised to read that some reviewers are having difficulty hitting the ball right to left... Feel and sound-wise, I absolutely love the sound of these clubs. They simply sound like Pittsburgh steel. Distance-wise (this is always the most useless part of a review) the 7 wood travels 210 easily. There, didn't that tell you something about the club? (of course not) With a swing speed clocked at 98.6, the 7 wood travels 210 in steel shaft. In terms of feel, I have tried the GBB II woods, and the ERC fusions and much prefer the Steelhead's to the latter. Mostly because of the feel. I have never really been a fan of bore through heads until this club. It's a matter of taste. You can get them on Callaway Pre-Owned for a song or on Ebay. Not being a big fan of Callaway, this comes as a totally honest review. Now I've never really had any problems hitting just about any 3 wood, especially when the one I owned before this one was the original ping eye persimmons 3 and 5 wood. This club is an absolute monster off the tee, fairway, and ruff. I've reached 2 out of 5 greens on par 5's with this thing. You can litterly swing out of your shoes and not miss hit it. Make sure you line it up on the club face correctly. If you normally swing in to out, line up to the heel. If you swing an out to in, line up to the toe. You'll love the results of this club. I've managed to put a draw on it, even though I've read some professional reviews that stated they couldn't make it draw no matter what they did. I bought mine on E-Bay without even reading the reviews, took it out for a round, and my jaw just dropped when I saw the straight and long flight of my golf ball. Now don't get me wrong, I'm 37 years old, and I don't hit the long ball. My Ping Eye could go as far as 200 yds. This thing gives me about 10 to 20 yrds. more. And as you all know, that could be the difference between making the green in 2 on a 5, and simply, not! I love this club and I hope this review helps you decide, but you can't have mine! I say no to Callaway Irons, too bulky, and no to Callaway Drivers (Warbird-too weired, Big Bertha- too big, esspecially the 454, looks like a grapefruit at the end of a stick.). I appluad them on a nice series of fairway woods. I was pleasently suprised and I'm enjoying this part of my game. Thank you Callaway! Customer Service not needed, but I've heard though retailers that they were very hard to get in touch with. Similar Products Used: Ping eye original persimmons (wooden head) |
