Carbon Driver
My Tour Edge Carbon driver (11 degrees, stock regular shaft, neutral face) is stealthily good. It is my backup driver (to my new Tour Edge Geomax). I picked it up on eBay for about $50 brand new, as I had good luck with Tour Edge in the past, and also had an Adams Redline RPM carbon crown driver with similar technology which I liked. The carbon crown drivers perform differently for me than steel/titanium .... rather than a metallic clank, they have a muted sound that makes you think you haven't hit the ball far ..... the trajectory doesn't seem as high, but the contact is forgiving, drives are often online, and have a surprising amount of roll. With both drivers I am surprised often to find my ball 10 yeards further than I thought it might be. In particular this driver might be good for both hard baked courses with lots of roll, or if playing in areas with a consistent breeze where a lower trajectory would help. The Carbon is relatively forgiving, and is a proven technology although now 2 generations (i.e. 2 seasons) old ... but if you are looking for a VERY solid performer at give-away prices, the Tour Edge Carbon driver is a pretty sweet deal. I also have the matching fairway woods, and they are equally easy to hit. If you are a beginner looking to move up, or even just staring out but want some quality equipment, avoid the WalMart set and go for inexpensive and impressive quality right away--Tour Edge Carbon--not flashy, but very predictable--and being in the short stuff is what its all about if you want to shoot low scores.
