Taylor Made R580 10.5*
I bought this driver on eBay for $120 after playing a tournament with a friend's R5 Dual. I never cared much for the large-head drivers until I hit the Taylor Made. It's big, but doesn't feel big at setup or at impact. The R5 is still out of my price range, but these 580s have come down quite a bit. I've noticed no difference in the R5 and the R580. The R5 I hit was 9.5* so the ball gets up in the air more with the 10.5* I have now. But it still carries very well and it's straight, straight, straight. I seldom miss a fairway with this thing and I've yet to hit a really bad shot that took me out of play. On a whole, I'd say it's shaved 5 or 6 strokes off of my score over the old Quadpro 8.5* 280cc I was hitting. I hit the Quadpro farther with roll, but the accuracy and carry on the R580 has worked out much better for me. P.S. - If you're buying a driver and you shoot in the 90s like me, go for more loft. More loft = less sidespin = fairways! Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Cleveland Quadpro 8.5* Taylor Made R5 Dual |

TaylorMade R580 9.5 stiff
A while ago I bought a TM360xd, 10.5 reg. I'd tried it out at a range first and it went fantastically well for me. Unfortunately, I was never quite as successful with it once I bought it. I found it too light and difficult to control, and I also found that I could never hit it as far as my old steel 1 wood. The flight was too high with too much spin, and the ball just seemed to stop mid air and drop straight down. One day I demoed an r540 at a course and loved it. The slightly heavier feel and stiffer shaft seemed to work wonders. I was going to buy one, but then I saw a great deal on a local auction website on a brand new r580. I'd tried one at the range before and it hadn't been that great, but I couldn't go past this deal. The first couple of times I used it I struggled, slicing quite a bit, but I changed my swing slightly and now I just love it! This is the best driver I have ever hit. Tee it up high and sweep it, and you'll see what I mean. Awesome, straight distance. 400 cc's is pretty big, but it's fairly standard nowadays, the XD's are even bigger. I can't see why you'd need it to be any bigger. Just try missing the sweet-spot with this sucker! Awesome value now that it's a couple of years old. You won't find better for the price. I can see why Golf Digest rated the r500 series the best drivers around! Just a note, the shafts seem a little soft. I swing in the early 90 mph's, not usually fast enough to need a stiff shaft, but I find the shaft on this is perfect. Great buy! (Also proof that you shouldn't necessarily buy the driver that works best on buying day. Get some advice on what you should be using, because you may grow into it, or out of it as the case may be.) TaylorMade R580 9.5* Stiff Flex Driver
I'm not one to post reviews although I read a lot of reviews (mainly on this site) before purchasing a product. With that said I just wanted to post my review on this TaylorMade R580 Driver that I purchased on eBay a few months ago for a great price. With the new R580XD out you can get an excellent deal on the regular R580 (I think I saw it on EBay for about $169 brand new). When I first got my Callaway X-14 Pro irons, which I love to death, I wanted to get matching Callaway woods. I started out with the Steelhead III, which was a decent club, but I wanted a titanium clubhead. So, I traded in the Steelhead III for the Hawkeye VFT. That was a huge mistake since it definitely was the wrong club for my swing. I eventually sold that club and used the money to purchase the TaylorMade 200 Steel 9.5* Stiff Flex Driver on eBay. At the time I payed $85, which was a great price. The club matched my swing just perfectly and I was consistently driving the ball 250-270 yards with roll. Then, of course, my longing for a titanium driver compelled me to start looking around again. I looked at the R580 and read some excellent reviews on this site. Since the factory installed shaft of the 200 Steel worked well for me, I figured why not take a chance on the R580 in hopes that the factory installed shaft will work out well, too. I took it out on the driving range a few times and the 400cc head took a little to get used to. But with practice I was easily hitting the ball 250 yards in the air (not counting any roll) making sure I take my usual swing. This past Labor Day weekend I went golfing with my brother and I took my driver out 3 times (on one par 4 and two par 5s). (Normally I use my 200 Steel 3-wood off the tee). Two out of the three drives were long and straight. The 18th hole was a 581-yard, par 5, and my group decided we'd grip it and rip it (Oh, come on , like you don't do that at least once or twice a round.) Well, I took my two practice swings, followed my routine, and addressed the ball. I don't remember even making contact with the ball since I must've hit it perfectly on the sweet spot (the only thing that was evident was the high pitched tink when the clubhead hit the ball). The ball flight was straight and the drive was long. When I went up to the ball for my second shot I estimated it to be between 250-270 yards to the pin! You do the math on that one to estimate how long my drive was....and the fairway had no slopes to help my ball roll forward. I finally have the titanium driver that I've wanted in the Taylormade R580, but I'll be keeping the 200 Steel for back-up. I know this review is only for the R580, but the 200 Steel driver is excellent and very reliable in itself. I've found the R580 to have a pretty big sweet spot. Even off hits tend to be minor push or pulls. It's a very forgiving club as long as you stick within your game plan on taking a nice, smooth, easy swing like you normally do. (My "grip it and rip it" example was an exception though). My swing speed is in the 105-115mph range so the TaylorMade stock shaft works well for me. In any case, I just purchased the R580 3-wood, so I guess my 200 Steel 3-wood will be my back-up as well. Thank you TaylorMade for making some excellent clubs that match my swing. I hope those of you who read this find this to be helpful. Some clubs just don't work for some folks, but I lucked out in finding that TaylorMade makes woods that work for me. I hope you do, too. Good Luck!!! Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Callaway Steelhead III, Callaway VFT Hawkeye, Orlimar HipTi, TaylorMade 200 Steel, TaylorMade 360XD |

TaylorMade 9.5 Stiff Shaft R580
I originally received a beat up R540 head from a friend, and as I was getting more into my game I was lately thinking about getting a new driver. The R series definitely caught my eye but it was expensive for me as a new golfer. I went to Golfsmith where I was told I could get the club reshafted if I like but it probably wouldn't be worth it. I was contemplating doing it but I wan't to get a feel for the club before I actually shafted it. I took a used 540 into to an amazing driving range simulation they have there which is excellent. The minute I started hitting the club it was great. The old Taylormade 360Ti I was playing with had a regular flex shaft and I was hitting it pretty well about 230 to 250 but I wasn't straight all the time. I was instructed to go for the stiff shaft because of my high swing speed (95-99 mph). Once I started htting the balls on the simulator they were going 245 to 265 consistently. I definitely new that this would be the club for me. Just for fun I thought I would try the R580. This was even better than the R540. It had a bigger sweetspot and bigger head 400 cc. I was hitting the ball 265 to 285 consistently. I even hit 299 on one stroke. I found out that they carried used clubs and opted to get this club. It was only $125 in mint condition and it was selling for $200 new. It was a great buy and already I have dropped my score at least 6 strokes. I strongly recommend that any type of golfer get this club or just hit it once. You will see a great improvement in your game. The 400cc head is nice and it acoomodates to everyone. If you usually have a tendency to slice the ball, the big sweet spot on this club won't allow that. When you hit the club it feels great at impact and the ball just flies off the club. TaylorMade has done such a great job of technologically advancing their clubs. This club will definitely improve your game and allow you to hit straighter and further. Taylor made R580 9.5 stiff shaft
Great club, large sweet spot and very fogiving. Stiff shaft is not the greatest idea unless you have a really high swing speed up 110 or over. Got a steal on this club off ebay 275 Canadian. Right now the club should be around 299 american because they made three other taylor made clubs now. Im 14 years old and bombing out drives 280 down the fairway. Also if you hit this club off center it still feels like a solid hit. Customer Service didnt use it Similar Products Used: great big bertha 2, Erc Fusion, E.R.C 2, Cobra comp 414 |

TaylorMade R580
I just want to start out by saying that about a month or so ago I wrote a good review about the Callaway Hawkeye VFT. Then about a week ago I was surfing the web and went to Ebay and was looking at prices for the R580. They usually range from 150 to 200 dollars used. I heard that this club was very long so I figured if I could find one at a good enough price I could try it and if I didn't like it resell it. I found some left handed R580's but they were a little too expensive for my taste. So I go on a website where I have bought from before called proshopwarehouse.com. They are like a closeout store for name brand clubs on the web. I found one for $129 dollars and this was at like 4 am. They only had one left. I figured the club would not last through the day so I bought it. I got out to the range and I seemed to be hitting the ball further than before. But from the range you cant tell the yardage when you hit it past a certain point. I got out on the course and played a round with it. I usually hit my driver in the 240-250 yard range. This time I took a nice easy swing and the ball just flew off the club. The first hole is like 280 yards from the teebox. I am putting from about a foot off the green on the fringe. That means I hit the ball 280 yards! And I didn't even hit the ball square on the clubface. After 2 rounds I have averaged from 30 to 40 yards extra on my drive. This club is hot! If the R580 XD is even hotter I can't wait to test it out. This club has a Graffaloy Blue Stiff shaft. I advise on getting either a Winn or GolfPride Whisper grip. The original TaylorMade grip was made with a slick cheap rubber and doesn't feel good in your hands. I have read reviews before and when people said they added 40 yards to their drive I figured they were doing something differently or were just lying. But after using this club I wont think that anymore. It is the real deal. I would have even paid more if I had known then what I know now. Now if I can figure out how to putt. R580
I purchased the set of Driver, 3-wood and 5-wood in the R580 series last fall on E-bay. I am totally happy with the clubs. The 5 and 3 are the easiest clubs I have ever hit for 225-250 yards. I simply play them like a mid-long iron and straight and long is the result. The driver has added 40-50 yards to my game pushing me to an average of about 280-300 yards. Longest year to date 360 yards. |

Taylor Made R580 Regular Flex
When i first Played this club it exagerrated my slice because i was changing from an .830 cor. but after playing a few rounds ive been hitting the longest straightest drive of my life(one 340 yard drive). Im a big guy(6'4) and i mis-hit the ball alot because of that and this club seems to be the most forgiving on the market. Ive gone through 6 drivers the last 3 years and I finally found one I like. |

Taylor Made R580 9.5 Stiff
First I would like to say that I rarely feel strongly enough to write a review for any product. I just bought a Taylor Made R580 Stiff shaft on sale at Nevada Bob's for $199. They don't let you demo the driver, but will let you hit into a net. I have been playing golf since I was 14 & having also played baseball, I've always been able to hit the ball far. I play at a local Country Club with my friends & have always hit the ball farther than my golf buddies. I had been using a Taylor Made Firesole 10.5 S shaft driver & consistenly hit it 250 to 300 yards. But not always straight. In the last 6 months my buddies have been hitting their drives at least as far as my drive & many times even farther. They all had recently purchaced new drivers, TaylorMade R580XD & Titleist Drivers. I asked if I could hit one with the TaylorMade & hit it 50 YARDS farther than my drive with the TM Firesole driver! After a few sessions at the driving range I got comfortable with the big club & took it out for a test on the golf course. The first hole is a 360 yard par 4. I teed it up with a Titleist ProV1x & hit the drive 330 yards! Not only does it go far it goes straight. I would recommend this club to anyone. It makes the game so easy & you won't loose very many balls because you are in the fairway most of the time or not far from it. So right off the rack I have a great driver. I would suggest the R580 & save $100 or more over the XD or the new R7 series. Taylor Made 580 Driver
This driver is phenomenal. Bought the Cleveland 460, hated it, sold it on eBay and got the 580 (9.5 stock stiff). I am 5'7", 140 lbs., 16 handicap with a swingspeed in the 90s. Yesterday, I hit 4-of-4 fairways. The day before, I hit 3-of-4. I also won "long drive" at an outing (280-ish). At the end of the day, no club will make you better, however, if you have a good swing and connect with the ball, it will fly. Wonderful, wondeful purchase. By the way, I also bought the 580 5-wood and can honestly say it's the greatest club I've ever owned. 3-wood is up next as soon as the price drops a bit.
