Okay, if the truth is to be known I am writing this at a time when I am particularly unhappy with my R540. Don't get me wrong, the other reviews are all basically true in regards to length and feel etc. My whinge has to do with the fact that I have just caved the face on my second (yes, that's right my second) R540 and believe me when the face is caved it's a dud. The first time it caved I put it down to using poor quality range balls but this time around it has only ever hit Titleist Pro V1's. I certainly give the ball a crunch and have a high swing speed but surely a driver of this calibre should be up to it. I can't believe I'm just the victim of bad luck (twice??) so I really have no choice but to give the club the thumbs down for reliability. I would be really interested to hear if anyone else has struck this problem.

Customer Service

Taylor Made have been OK and replaced the first club I caved free of charge and the second one is currently being assessed. Each time it is with them I'm without a driver for at least a month which is a real pain as I play at least twice a week.

I hope nobody in South Carolina buys this driver. I have never found a driver so forgiving AND so looong!! I'm at least 15 yds longer than when my Ping TiSi Tec and the new Big Bertha II. I took all three to the driving range and was longer with the 540 by 15 yrds (minimum). Also, it's the easiest of the three drivers to hit. I don't know how or why it is so forgiving, but, it is. It has somewhat of a higher ball flight than I was used to, but, I needed that since I was a fairly low ball hitter. Anyway, it's a great club and I'm not even going to reshaft it (as I have all my other drivers) because this one works so well. Don't buy it! I want to be one of the current few who can dust most of my buddies on the course.

Excellent, solid feeling product. The trajectory is lower than my previous drivers, with a penetrating ball flight, and this is the longest driver I have ever hit. I'm pretty long in general, but I've definitely gained a few yards on my average shots, and my best hits are much longer. Shafted with a Xtra Stiff YS-7 shaft, this is a great combo for hard swingers, 110+mph. More of a grip it and rip it combo than a smooth swinging approach, but controlled swings are also rewarded, just less vibrant feeling.

Customer Service

Never had to use, but they have a nice website, and I registered my club there.

I recently purchased this driver because I was looking for a change. The last club I had was a Taylor Made Ti Bubble 2, which is still a great club. I have always been long, but I thought with all of that .830 COR business, I would try some new drivers. I went back and forth between the 510 and the 540, but chose the 540 for the forgiveness. I will tell you right now that I now DROP BOMBS. Before my avg was around 280, but last week it was 305, with one drive (non wind aided) at 335. This is just awesome. The stock shaft is a little flimsy, so I changed to a Fujikura 757 stiff, which is awesome. I recommend anoyone looking for a medium trajectory, very penetrating flight to at least demo this before purchasing anything else.

I play in college so I play some very tight courses and this was the best purchase I have made. The Taylor Made R540 driver is a great club. I won't lie to you and tell you I gained 40 yards because it's not true. I gained about 5-10. The increased yardage is due to extended roll. It is a solid club. It has great feel with great trajectory. I have the Mitsubishi shaft with Tour Stiff flex. It's a great combination. The Stock Taylor Made shaft is ok, but nothing special. If you find out what shaft you like and put on this club it's a killer combination. If you read all the others it says that it takes a while to get used to. Whatever, this is a club designed for a good golfer. Here's how to test out this driver. Have total confidence and just go at it with all you can but still with control. Don't worry, you won't have to get used to it.

Customer Service

I haven't had to use it.

Nothing compares to the feel, accuracy, trajectory (with the right club- 510 for low, 540 for mid and 580 for high) and distance. Wow, a great club.

I researched the web sites of various manufacturers of drivers to try and differentiate the different clubs. I narrowed my search after reading about the R500 series drivers on the Taylor Made site. I used their online questionaire to decide what club was right for me and it suggested the R540 with a regular flex 70g shaft. I read the reviews on this site and decided it would be worth a try. I bought the club this morning and drove straight to my home course (which happens to be in my back yard). My first shot was straight down the middle on a dog leg right and I hit is sooo long that I overdrove the fairway into the first cut. I never over drive the fairway on that hole! Distance aside, the trajectory of the ball is what has me all smiles. The precision of my golf shot leaves somthing to be desired and this club does exactly what it claims to do. I hit a few offcenter shots in my first 18 holes and they still hit the fairway. I am amazed! The only reason I am not out golfing more is because it is dark outside. I would recommend the club to anyone. If it works half as good for you as it does for me, you'll love it! I shot my best round of golf all summer using this club for the first time. Imagine what a few hours on the driving range will do. I normally hit my driver 240-260 and drove the green on a short 301yd par 4 today into the wind.

I hate say anything negative about this club because I love it now but when I was given it and took out to use I really struggled to get the club going at all, the standard shaft was really a joke but after one round I had the stock shaft taken out and had a Penley x stiff shaft put in and now this club really goes. In combination with the Pro V 1x this club is consistanly 25-30 metres longer than my previous drives which have included Nike 350cc, Titleist 975D plus others.

Customer Service

Have not had to use but a friend caved the face on one at the range and Taylor Made replaced the club in 36 hours.

Model Reviewed: taylormade R540 9.5* (grafalloy blue stiff)

i recently overhauled my whole bag and tried every driver out there including the R580 and R510. just about the only one i hadn't tried was the R540. so i was really excited when i won it as a prize for closest to the pin in a local tournament, because i had heard good things about it. much to my dismay, it didn't quite perform as well as i would have liked. the club was a 9.5* with a stock mas2 stiff shaft. i liked the feel at impact, but the whippy end of the shaft made the trajectory too high. the distance was typically in the 260-265 range, which was about 10 yards shorter than my ping TiSI tec. i was about to scrap the whole club when my buddy suggested trying a different shaft. so i did some research and settled on the grafalloy blue (lower trajectory than the stock one.) man what a difference! i'm glad i didn't actually buy the club because i probably would have demo'ed and settled for the same shaft with a lower trajectory head. the distance instantly jumped 30 yards to about a 295 average. the other day i took a rip at a 322 yard par 4 and left a half-ball-deep mark on the green (and i'm only 5'9"!) and i was able to work the ball well (left, right, low) with effort, but was also able to hit it straight without thinking about it. the club is a great medium between the 580 and the 510. there's some extra distance, but it retains some of the spin characteristics of a "player's" club. i would highly recommend it to any mid-low to mid-high handicappers seeking such. but do demo it before you buy. i'm sure the stock shaft works for about 80% of the general public, but not everyone. as for the head of the club, it's awesome.

Customer Service

haven't had to deal with them, but i hear taylormade is pretty good when it comes to customer service.
