As an 80 year old very active playerI have used this club for a month and it is all I could expect for a senior player and more! I can hit it a bit over 210 yards and very very straight.I added 1 1/2 inch and it is easy to control with a smooth swing. It has the senior shaft. A truly great club !! This driver is OK , that's about it. Great big head , lots of forgiveness. But , from a distance standpoint , I found the TM540xd MUCH LONGER , and just as forgiving. Too bad TM stopped making the 500 series drivers , but personally speaking , I had the faces of a R510 and a 540xd both collapse , and the R5 was a replacement club. I guess I'll have to settle for the R5. Customer Service It took TM 6 weeks to finally tell me they could not find me a 540xd head to replace the one that collapsed. They offered me an R5 , and had it in my hands the next day. They were kind enough to reinstall my Grafalloy Blue S shaft in the R5 for me. Similar Products Used: You name it ! |

After my third outing with this club (including some range work), I think I'm ready to review. So far, I could not be more happy. It does exactly as advertised - hits straight or with a draw bias. Since my natural swing produces a fade, this works out very well for me. The ball will still fade off this club, but you have to work really hard to do this and you will sacrifice distance. On the other hand, you are liable to pull the shot if you're setup isn't right. But on straight drives, the ball sails off the club and goes very deep. The head, while large, (450cc)doesn't distract and sets up nicely behind the ball. The club inspires great confidence on the tee and makes teeing off fun. I really need to be able to update reviews. I just came back from my second round of 18 with the new R5 D. It's incredible. LONG!!!! I was crushing the ball 280-300 all day long. I will never buy another driver again. I gave it a 4 rating on the last one because I thought this Driver was heavy compared to the Cleveland 360... big deal. After witnessing what my pals and I were doing with this driver today.. it means nothing! TaylorMade R5 Dual D 9.5* Regular
I have used TM's in the past, and had problems controlling them off the tee. I had a bad slice until I started usiing the Callaway C4. The C4 helped me fix my swing mechanics, but the distance wasn't as desired. I than switched to the Cleveland 460. I thought I was in love for the first 2 weeks, but noticed that I was "popping" the ball up, even with a 9.5* loft. The lower I tee'd it, the more confidence I lost on the tee. I just purchased the R5 Dual D. LONG!!! STRAIGHT!! I am sure for more accomplished golfers, this club can give them the "draw" they are looking for. For me, I am smashing it down the middle of the fairway. Fantastic club, although it seems a bit heavy. I have some swing mechanics stuff I still need to work out. I am sure, if you swing at about 85-90% speed, this club will do everything you need and more. I found that the easier I swing the more distance I was putting up. I also found that by teeing the ball at knuckle height on the tee, the better the shot. I didn't lose any confidence with the big head, it seems to sit alot better than the Cleveland 460. So teeing the ball lower was no problem. WARNING: do not tee the ball high wiith this driver... you will sky it. I am going to wait and see what more acomplished golfers say about the "draw" aspect of this driver is, I will say that it has helped me tame my occasional wild slice. With more consistancy and confidence, I am sure this driver will be my favorite yet. Very inexpensive and well made!!
