Taylor Made r5 Dual 10.5 Draw Bias
The r5 dual is a super long driver that has an explosive feel of the face. I swapped my r7 Quad for this driver because it is alot more forgiving. Similar Products Used: r7 quad |

This is the BEST driver I've ever hit!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGG!!! You can hit it just about anywhere on the face and the ball will fly for miles. Ball flies incredibly straight too, or sometimes a slight draw, but never a slice unless you have a really bad cut swing. This driver will help the higher handicap player, no doubt. Much better for average golfer than the r7 quad. Taylor Made really made a great club here, do yourself a favor and go out and demo this club. Forgiving is a HUGE understatement. You practically can't miss the ball with this club!! Customer Service Good customer service. Not great like callaway though. Similar Products Used: r7 quad ht (nowhere near as long or forgiving), Yonex cyberstar cyberbrid (very long but again not as forgiving), Loco Pro (again, not as forgiving) |

I played with some randomn guy last week. I hit my drive on a good day...about 260-270. But I have to be on. Well...this guy was crushing his drive and he wasn't swinging any more differently then myself. It just seemed like he was so much farther then me every hole. So on the 12th hold...on a long par 4 he let me hit his driver. It was the r5 with a fujijura speeder569 Stiff shaft. Too boot he added an inch long piece of duck tape and taped it on the side of the head of his driver. When asked...he said...just a little added weight. So right before i was about to swing...he said...just take it back smooth and try not to kill it. I did. and that ball flew so high and so far i knew it was one of the best drives i've ever had. not only cuz of the way it looked but the way it felt. the shaft in conjunction with the head combined an unbelievable feeling. you know, after a GREAT shot you're like one with the club and the ball. well i hit that ball 290. honestly, i felt like i hit it 400 but 290 worked for me. i was hooked on it and come to realize...everyone's hitting this club or this shaft. it's the next big thing in golf and i figure if i want to take my game to the next level then i have to have this club. they say it's all about the putting and the short game. i disagree. you gotta put yourself in the right position to make your short game work for you and this driver i believe will do that for me. I bought this driver on ebay for 235.00, quite a deal considering it has a ProLauch 65 in it and it was brand new. Anyway, I took it to the range and hit a bucket of balls and hit ONE fade which for me is way out of the ordinary. It is about 10-15 yards longer than my old driver (Redline) and straight, straight, straight!!!! I love it, it makes a sweet sound and gives me loads of confidence. All you have to do is point were you want it to go and swing nice and smooth and BOOM it's gone. I played with it on Sunday and only missed one fairway with it, and the only reason I did is because I drove it through the dog leg on a long par 5. The Redline was officially retired after that, I traded it in for 2 dozen Pro V1's at Golfsmith. The sound of that thing finally got the best of me, it doesn't compare to the sweet music of the R5. If you slice or fade give it a try you will not be disappointed. |

This driver is longest, straightest and most forgiving driver I have ever hit. The ball just rockets of the face. The head has a nice weight to it and it feels really solid when you hit it. The driver wont suit everyone though. My general miss with the driver was the high right and would fade or push most of my drives. Therefore I would aim for the left edge of the fairway. This worked ok but could be a little inconsistant. Especially if I pull it straight left. Because of the draw bias on this club it allows me to aim where I want the ball to start which is straight down the middle, and the ball either goes dead straight or has about 5 yards of draw. Therefore I am hitting most fairways with a lot more distance. I would normally go with a 10.5 deg loft as I hit the ball quite low but this club has a high torque tip soft shaft which produces a high ball flight so I went with the 9.5 degree and I hit it the perfect height. If you hit a draw with your current driver then this may not be you club for you. Also if you hit the ball very high then I would consider a non stock shaft eg Aldila NV. For my game this club is perfect. It is a little shorter in length than some drivers I have tried like the Ping G2 or Callaway 454 but I found distance to be equal or longer with more control and more hits out the middle. Good club but not for the better than average golfer. I have found this club to be very forgiving, which is great for me, but not very long. I put a Fujikura Tour Step shaft in it to give it a little extra stiffness but still am not able to hit it as far as the Cobra or the BB. I will keep it in the bag however as it is way more forgiving. If you slice this is a GREAT club for you. If you hit it straight and are looking for extra distance may benefit from some of the other clubs out there. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Cobra, Callaway BB, Ping ISI Tech |

r5 Type D with Aldila NV65 Stiff Shaft
I was previously hitting the OLD Big Bertha at 10*. I had hit that driver for about 7 years on and off and decided it was time for a new baby. I was originally going to buy the r7 with an Aldila stiff shaft, but was asked to wait 3 weeks. I hit a relative's r5 type n with stock TM shaft and thought it was decent. I got the club for 250 out the door and couldn't be happier. My average drives are up around 260 now with a few coming in around 280 yards with a beautiful slight draw. If you're thinking of getting an r7 give the r5 a try and you might save yourself 100 dollars. Try to get your hands on one with the Aldila NV65 shaft as I was able to tell a difference between this and the stock TM shaft. Great club, easy to hit, very sexy with the green shaft ;). I love this club. i had a TM r580 and liked that club for the most part but was not getting any carry. i was hitting the low runner which was the result of the graphite design ys-6 shaft. i could have reshafted but why not have the latest club in the bag. so i bought an R7 and i liked it. got the ball up in air better but with weights at max draw seemed to loose some distance. so then i tried the R5 D with factory stiff shaft. it goes 40 yards farther than the R7 and a much bigger sweet spot. im getting the trajectory i wanted with some good roll. the face seems hotter than the R7 and it sets up more square at address. i couldnt be happier. like others have said, smooth tempo works the best straight, buts thats just probably the amatuer golfer in most of us. i have hit more fairways with this club and shot my 2 lowest scores of the summer. best value i think as well as this was $160 less than R7. Traded my TM R5 Type N w/ Alidia NV-65 in for a TM R5 Type D w/ Fujikura Tour Platform Series 26.3 & couldn't feel better. The first round w/ the Type D I shot an 83, the next day I enjoyed my best round of golf ever -- 78. This club is forgiving and long. Highly recommend for players that make mistakes right. This club actually does promote a straight-to-draw ball flight for chronic slicers. Must use a smooth tempo for best results; being too quick will welcome back the banana ball. Excellent club!!! Compared with my GBBII 9.5, mis-hits of R5 go much farther. I can now get 8 out of 10 shots straight or draw. The other 2 become fade now and no more slice. Although the distance is around the same between my old GBBII and R5, R5 eliminates my slice shots and gives me very great satisfaction. |
